We are only planning to stay for 2 nights. Just to get some rest after our day-tour in Samal. But we love the place, so we extend for 1 more night.
The staffs and owners are accommodating. They always ask what we need and suggest where are the best places to explore in Samal. They let us use their kitchen without additional charge.

We had a great time staying in this place. The owners were so accommodating, they helped us create an itinerary for our 3D2N stay in that island. We went to Samal with just few things to do in mind but with their help, we had an idea on which one to do/go first and what's next.

We also met a driver named Jun (09309810216) who helped us explore 5 tourist destinations of the island for only P1,500.00. This includes Isla Reta, Monfort Bat Cave, Taclobo Tours, Maxima Aqua Fun and Hagimit Falls. He turned out to be our photographer for the entire trip which was fun.

I had a very very great experience visiting Samal and surely, I will come back!

I am a hotel guy, hands down but when I found out that I could get my own room, I took a chance and went for it and I am SUPER HAPPY that I did. I normally stay at beach front resorts until a high maintenance friend suggested I give this hostel a shot. In my head, if my diva friend enjoyed this facility, then I could enjoy it too 😆. The place is NOT a beach front resort so you need to know that if you are only a beach front person. If you don’t have a car, there are “tricycles” that can you to the beach front for a super low cost. Drivers and locals are mega friendly and trustworthy. There’s a dog here named Yukie who’d even come with you if you like ❤️❤️. Anyway, the hostel is pretty rad. My room had air conditioning, a very comfortable bed and hot shower. NO television & wifi because the hostel encourages you to disconnect. If you want wifi, like me right now as I’m making this very review, you’d need to walk to the common area where you can eat your self service breakfast. They served me corn coffee which is pretty awesome. Then a continental breakfast as well. This common area has a television too so if you want to watch the news, you go right ahead. When I woke up this morning, there were many exotic birds chirping their little hearts away. So freaking cute. I checked out all the rooms so I can give my friends an accurate description. There are rooms with 4 single beds. Rooms with bunk beds with their own reading lights and 2 bathrooms in each shared rooms. The deluxe room is pretty awesome too. The art works are beautiful. Although the place advertises itself as a hostel, I am able to say that it’s a hybrid of a hotel and a hostel. I’ve seen hostels in Vancouver that made me want to barf. This hostel has gotten me SUPER IMPRESSED. Really clean. Really well maintained. Staff is awesome and initiative. I am very very impressed and I plan to bring my family and friends the next time I come back.

We stayed overnite at La Vida Orchard on 27 May 2016. The hotel consists of 2-storey buildings with 2 rooms at each floor. There are about 3-4 separate buildings on the property. Location is about 100 meters from the seashore. The lot has many different fruit-bearing trees, which the owner allowed us to pick some and even gave samples to bring back to Davao City. Breakfast was toasted bread with egg, home-made peanut butter and jams, local rice cake "sumans", and local brewed coffee. The rooms were nice and clean, aircons were okay, and with hot & cold shower. Some setbacks are clogged toilet floor drains and low water pressure, which was due to poor power supply at Samal. This was compensated by the hotel staff delivering water to our toilet's big water containers and storing water when power supply was sufficient for pumping. The owners whom we met during breakfast were very nice, friendly, and accommodating. I recommend the place to people who want to stay in a clean, safe, simple place offering best value for money.

La Vida Orchard Samal, is a little gem in the Samal Island. We stayed here last 2nd week of March. This place is clean, quite and lots of greens (trees, flowers, & shrubs),.. it's quite and peaceful. You can cook your own food. They will provide you with kitchen utensils. All you have to do is go to the market and buy fish, meat, etc. to cook. The owners are friendly and will look after the safety of their customers. The owners help us get a boat for our tour to Clam Sanctuary. The boatman was late, too many alibis. Make sure to get a boatman that is on time. I'm impressed with the colour combination of the rooms. I will highly recommend this place to any travelers who love simplicity, sleek, modern and decorated with fashion room.

They have good customer service (given that the staff had difficulty in understanding Tagalog and English since the dialect in the area is Bisaya/Cebuano). Cool ambiance because it's an orchard. Love the fruit and flower being trees. Excellent home cooked meals, well presented. They will serve breakfast in your room, but I suggest you have it at their open air dining area and enjoy it with the cool air. Detoxify! Flush out all the unclean metro manila pollutions from your lungs!

The place is really nice with its natural landscaping and rustic decor. A few insects mind you (bring an organic bug spray if you don’t like to get bitten); like I said it’s for nature lovers, it’s an orchard. Strong water supply (hard water not soft water quality), just make sure that you are on the ground floor. Not sure if the upper showers work when there’s no electricity (2 to 3 hours brown out in Mindanao, that’s a given). We had fun in Samal staying at this place.

Location: It’s central to most “must see” tourist spots in Samal Island land and water. Around 45 minutes to Kaputian beach, 15 to 20 minutes to other sites on the island via van/multi-cab. Make sure you have good logistics planned as it is quite a challenge to get local transport in the area, if you don’t plan it ahead.

If you are looking for luxury hotel accommodations then this is not for you. This is a place for people who can appreciate the basic good things in life. Thank God for their air-con at noon to night time in the summer!

This is a semi-private resort lovingly cared by the family who owns it, and shared to people who likes to keep things simple and close to nature.

Personal Suggestion:
Bring soap with moisturizer since the area of Samal is mostly hard water i.e. Dove.
Big jars just gives me the creeps, had to inspect the jars if they had snakes or other insects (sorry, this is just weird old me). Please put a lid on the jars (if possible) to prevent insects from breeding in.

My wife and i and friends visited Samal Island for diving and discovery in June. We selected La Vida on fhe reviews. And they are right. This is a very cosy and beautiful location, simple and friendly for a few days visit. I do recommend to have a car as the island is large and activities spread out.
We highly recommend. And the corn coffee is wonderful.

La Orchard

I was not really expecting this place to be as great as this with the low rates they have. The pictures they have online is just like a "trailer" of a movie - there is more to find out. Honestly, if you are not the type of person who loves to socialize with other guests, want to meet the owners, and up for a homey kind of place - this is not the place for you because you will experience it all here.

The location of the place is better compared to other Bed and Breakfast. It is accessible via tricycle from the last bus stop, if you are coming from Davao. There are no walkable stores, so I suggest you bring all the things you need. Some tourist spots and one restaurant is just one tricycle away.

The place is really like a social gathering place because they have a common dining area, Television area and kitchen. If you know how to cook, I will recommend that you just go to the market since they have the basic equipments that you might need. The owners are usually in the television area which is just beside the dining area. During our two night stay, we gained a lot of friends. This area is the best spot for me because aside from interacting with other guests this is the strongest signal for their free wifi,

They offer different kinds of room, but the one we got is good for five. The beds and pillows are okay. The price is low so don't expect that they have a refrigerator or television inside the room. It is just a perfect place to sleep from a long day touring Samal island.

For the price, it is actually more than worth it because you are not paying for superb room but a wonderful service with an extra add on of new friends.

Totally recommendable in Samal :)
