Our group decided to take the boat service from their wharf as the Samal ferry boat was a 1/2-3 hour wait each way. The hotel is fairly new and looks great with its all-white exterior and interiors. The food wasn't bad at all and the buffet service we had during our meeting and stay was quite good. However, do not stay in rooms 119-122 if you want to get a good night's sleep or if you are planning to sleep in. Their restaurant is above these rooms and despite the rooms being priced at a premium since they open straight to the pool, the noise of tables and chairs being re-arranged to accommodate the diners woke us up at 4 am and by 6 am. The ceiling of the rooms/floor of the restaurant are not noise-proof at all. The tables and chairs being dragged upstairs can be heard downstairs in the rooms and can wake even the heaviest sleeper. Also, the shower area wasn't built right- the water wasn't draining at all and left a pool of water which can be very slippery as it wouldn't dry. We also asked for additional water for the 2nd day and expected at least 2 more bottles of water but sadly, they give you the smallest bottles. And we didn't get any new bottles of water the following day. After asking for more water to replace our 2 small bottles, we were given a jug of water instead which was filtered water so it was okay. The price of the room we stayed in was more expensive than our room at the Shangri-la Hotel where the facilities and rooms were more upscale. It might not be on the beach but you can get a better night's sleep and comes with a free gym, bigger pool plus wet floors (steam sauna), dry sauna plus a jacuzzi and cold pool, all free. Despite our disappointment with being roused from our sleep at the unholy hour of 4am, kudos to Club Samal for their friendly staff and their very clean rooms and environment, as well as their live entertainment and beach-side dining experience at night which made our stay special.

Room Tip: Prepare to wait 1 1/2- 3 hours for the ferry if you will bring your car. Best to take their boat...

Club Samal is a beautiful place in Samal Island, Davao. All of their staff are very friendly, from the security guard to their wait staff and front desk staff. They only have one restaurant and one bar. They have a big swimmibg pool and they have their own private boat to pick you up and drop you off, but you have to pay extra for your roundtrip private boat fees.

This was a day after Christmas overnight getaway for five families. We decided to take the speed boat ride to Club Samal. I would suggest that their speedboat pickup personnel would have a signboard indicating who they were going to pick up because he was just standing there while we were waiting for the ride. Had I not asked him if he was from Club Samal and would be picking us up, he would have just stood there for five minutes. I assume he was quite shy to be asking people in the pickup point since there were several groups there. The speed boat ride could get splashy especially if the waves are big. So I would suggest to wear comfortable clothes for the boat ride and get ready to get splashed. But I think it would still be better to take the boat ride than taking your vehicle and be tortured by the long cue of cars waiting to take the barge to cross to and from the island. The cue would take you about an hour or so to board and if you have kids with you the waiting time could be just too much for them to be cooped up in your vehicles. Club Samal is a plantation feel resort with a big white building. They have an olympic size four feet deep pool and a kiddie pool beside it. My seven and five year old grandkids even enjoyed the adult pool with our adult supervision because we were swimming with them. However, the beach was rocky and you need to be careful and wear aqua shoes to wade in it. I had a small foot cut because I was just wearing slippers and I was trying to protect my grand daughter from being cut by the corals. Our rooms were nice and clean, with a small verandah overlooking the pool, with toiletries, a couple of take home slippers (not the paper like complimentary slippers of some hotels), an outside laundry rack to hang your wet clothes and towels, complimentary coffee, complimentary hygiene kits of 2 face masks, alcohol and wipes and comfy beds. Sleep was pleasant because of the comfy beds and great air conditioning. I went to bed at ten pm and woke up early also. There is no WIFI in the rooms. Beside, I didn't want to disturb my sleeping companions so I have to connect at the lobby. WIFI is only available at the lobby. At 4am that could be a little bit weird. Food was okay and large enough for sharing. All in all we paid around ten thousand pesos for lunch and dinner for eight adults. You can charge it to your room and pay with a credit card when you check out. The breakfast buffet choices were quite limited. They had soup to heat your cold morning tummy but they didn't have pancakes. I don't know if they would serve it if you ask for it since I didn't ask (probably for an additional charge they would). Food service was good and prompt with staff whisking away your plates once you're done so you can hang around for some pleasant chit chat with your family or friends after your meal. But the unexpected treat came when one of the owners of Club Samal invited us and took us for a side trip (he served as our guide along with his garden consultant and also graciously provided us with a couple of vehicles for the drive, remember we had no vehicles because we took the speedboat) to his project which he called the Garden of Hope. For the plantitos and plantitas, they would certainly drool at this well laid out garden which could also be great for a wedding venue. The side trip to the Garden of Hope is only available exclusively to guests of Club Samal for a minimal fee. It is highly recommended for guests at Club Samal to take this little side trip when they are booked here. As an aside, when we drove to the Garden of Hope we saw the long line of vehicles cueing for the ferry ride going back to Davao City and it was just around 10am!! After seeing that long cue,I was thankful that my niece had the presence of mind to just book the speed boat ride for us. Overall, our after Christmas family bonding was great especially with the unexpected treat. We would surely be back for more exploration of the Island Garden City of Samal while staying at Club Samal. Feel free to ask me questions about our Club Samal experience and you could also check out my other travel reviews here at tripadvisor..

Pros: Location/Accessibility -The hotel's location is very ideal. it's closely located Samal port. Walking distance from the Port. Beach - It has its own beach front and swimming pool that the guest may enjoy. Pool- The pool is nice and very instagrammable Rooms - You get a nice view of the pool and beach from your room. ALL rooms have the same view. Cons: Exclusivity - they are accepting a lot of day tours aside from the stay in guest. considering the size of the hotel (small). So if you want an exclusive hotel just like us, this is not for your. Since there are a lot of day tours, you won't be able to enjoy the pool and beach esp. during weekends, not worth the P7,900 that we paid. Food - the food is a bit expensive but average. In fact the food we had at the Carenderia in Samal is way better and cheaper. They changed our breakfast from platter to buffet but there were only 4-5 choices and the staff only serves too little of each food. I can't eat everything on the menu as I was pregnant and very picky with the food so whenever I find something pleasing for my tummy I want to have a large serving. But the staff limit each serving which is discouraging considering it's a buffet. Beach - The beach is not that good either, although they clean it but since it's too close to the port, there are some trash. Staff - Their staff are not friendly. They need more training. Overall, it's an average hotel (3 star). It too expensive for the price of 7900/night. You can get better service, excellent food and exclusive experience from other hotels.

I had a lovely time with my sister. We availed the day trip tour with lunch. Food was served as a platter and there were only 3-5 choices. Not bad for the price. The pool and staff were great, accommodating and always with a smile on their faces. The bathroom was an "ok" just a little concerned about the shower stalls, not so clean. But overall our stay was enjoyable.
