Our group of 8 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The provided water and coffee machine in the lounge were appreciated. Most of all, the staff provided outstanding and friendly service. I’ve already recommended your hotel to friends who plan to visit your beautiful city, and we hope to return. Thank you!
We stayed at Hotel du Vieux-Quebec between Christmas and New Year and it really was a total pleasure. The staff were warm and welcoming and accommodating. The room was spacious yet made very cozy with the gas fireplace. The location is very convenient, there is a lovely bistro downstairs and the lounge for cappuccinos was welcoming. Thank you for your hospitality. We highly recommend the hotel.
We have one more day, but could not wait to review this hotel. It is wonderful! Great staff, great rooms including a room near the lobby with games, cute fireplace, and a cappuccino machine. The hotel is lovely with exposed stone walls. It is very conveniently located to everything in the old city so easy walking.
Great hotel. We appreciated the courteous and clear interaction with staff and assistance with parking, dining, and luggage. The rooms were nicely organized. The ultraviolet air cleaners in the hallways and elevators were a bonus. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh croissant of different kinds. There is a nice common area with a variety of chairs and tables, including a meeting room and a coffee machine. We will stay again.
This is probably my favorite hotel that I've ever stayed in. When we arrived I was flustered from a difficult trip and Pietro, the manager, said, "You're home now," and that sums it up (except of course much better than home!) There was great attention to detail, such as the placement of lights in the room, an air filter in the elevator, a bottle of water with glasses in the room, the lovely, comfortable and peaceful lounge. The room was quiet, with plenty of storage and the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom large with good water pressure. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only suggestion that comes to mind is that the croissant breakfast, while very good, could have had more cheese, or some yogurt--I would prefer more protein of some sort.
I just read ToriBarry's review (below) and she pretty much wrote what I was planning to write . This is a GREAT hotel and especially ideal for those who like a smaller, non-corporate hotel. To reiterate (briefly) what many others have said: everything is clean, staff is very friendly and helpful, and the location is great for accessing both upper and lower parts of the city. We had a superior queen room which suited us well. It was spacious and had plenty of seating and surfaces. We were there for 5 nights and tend to spread out, so having areas other than the bed to sit on or put things on makes a big difference. Seating included 2 comfy chairs with a good-sized low table between them. We had our breakfast here each morning and sat here whenever we were in the room. There was also a desk chair and a bench at the end of the bed. There was a good sized desk and a low chest of 3 drawers. Also, each side of the bed had a small nightstand with drawer. One of my favorite details of the room was a throw (blanket) that was at the foot of the bed. I used this quite a bit on chilly mornings or sitting reading and it added a very homey, cozy feel to being in the room (it was made of washable materials so I wasn't concerned that it was used by previous occupants). I agree with others comments on lighting. I'm someone who pays close attention to lighting. Our room had zoned ceiling lights for when we needed brighter light, and 3 smaller wall fixtures (2 bedside) for when we wanted more ambiance. Bathroom lighting was bright and there's a non-intrusive nightlight. The common room on the lobby level is such a great space. Comfy seating, fireplace, games, books, and a great coffee machine that makes coffee, espresso, cappuccino, latte, etc, all free and available 24 hours (and in real mugs, not paper). Every morning I toodled down to this room (not fully awake) and made myself a cappuccino to take back to my room and enjoy with the lovely breakfast basket that was delivered to our door. IThere was a perfectly good coffee machine in the room but I really liked the cappuccino!). All in all, the details make the difference in this hotel. It feels like someone carefully considered the guest experience down to the smallest details. I would stay here again without reservation.…
Without a doubt, we could not have selected a better hotel in which to stay in Quebec City. We specifically travelled in December so that we could visit the German Christmas markets and we wanted a hotel that was centrally located as we would not be renting a car. The location is superb. The hotel is in the upper town and within easy walking distance of many sights, i.e., the Chateau Frontenac and the main cathedral. Rue St. Jean is full of restaurants, candy shops, patisseries, clothing stores and more. There are 5 Christmas markets with 4 of them being close to each other (near to the Chateau Frontenac) and the 5th one in the opposite direction just outside the city walls. They are all only a short walk from the Hotel du Vieux Quebec. This may not matter to most people but we always like to visit a local food market to pick up some snacks, extra napkins, etc., and there is a new Carrefour du Terroir just outside the city walls. Next to it is a small grocery store and across the street a liquor store. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. We asked them for a lot of advice from "where is there a small grocery store" to "what time should we leave the hotel to make our flight home". One day we were sitting in the large lounge and we heard several voices singing Christmas songs. It was the cleaning staff returning from their lunch break. I suspect that this hotel is a good place in which to work. Speaking of the lounge, it is in a different location from those in most hotels. It is at the back of the main floor and has plenty of varied seating from a room with a large dining table to cozy seating near the fireplace. It is open 24/7 and there is always fresh ice water to drink and a wonderful cappuccino/espresso machine. Board games and books are also available. We booked a deluxe king room because I wanted a fireplace in the room (there are 5 rooms that have fireplaces in the hotel) and it was a beautiful, large room, complete with wood floors, a large leather sofa, a coffee table, an arm chair and a king bed which was extremely comfortable). There are lovely light-colored wood built-ins such as a wardrobe, built in storage under the bench at the end of the bed, built in bedside tables, built in cabinet which includes a safe and a refrigerator with the bar area on top. The room has 2 separate large windows with both sheer curtains and drapes. There are 2 guest robes which saved us from having to pack bulky winter robes. There is the standard ironing board and iron along with ceramic coffee mugs, juice glasses and wine glasses (no styrofoam!). Another feature we particularly enjoyed was the vestibule with coat hooks separated from the living area by a glass and wooden door that kept any hallway noise out of the room. The bathroom is small but very adequate. Unlike other hotels we have visited, the shower head was relatively large and not corroded at all. The shower is in a deep tub complete with Rubbermaid bath mat and a type of plug that I've never seen but one that cannot be misplaced at all! The older we get the more we appreciate good lighting. From built in lights on each side of the bed to under-counter lighting at the desk to recessed lights controlled with rheostats - there is plenty of light available. We particularly enjoyed the picnic breakfast each morning which contained assorted croissants, jelly, cheese, orange juice and fruit - apple or orange. It was nice to be able to wake up and eat breakfast in our pjs as opposed to having to shower and get dressed. It made the day that much more enjoyable. And, lastly, our room, and indeed the entire hotel, is extremely CLEAN. No mildew or dirt anywhere. We hope to visit Quebec City again in the future and stay at the Hotel du Vieux Quebec.…
We just returned home from a four day visit to the Christmas Market in Quebec City. We stayed at Hotel du Vieux Quebec and were delighted by our choice. This hotel is in the centre of all the action in Quebec City. We were able to walk absolutely everywhere and never used a taxi. We were greeted by the charming Pierrot who was extremely helpful and gracious throughout our stay. The entire hotel is impeccably spotless and well appointed. Coffee, cappuccino, tea, hot chocolate, etc., is available in the lounge 24 hours/day. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The quality of the sheets was very good (not the flimsy type that bunch up in the middle of the night). A delightful breakfast basket containing juice, fruit, scrumptious croissants, pain au chocolate, local cheese, and house made jam was hung on our door every morning by 8:00 a.m. Hotel du Vieux Quebec is our hotel of choice in Quebec City and we look forward to returning soon.…
It was my first time back to Quebec in many years. The location of the hotel made it easily accessible to restaurants and shops in Old Quebec. The hotel was was well furnished and maintained. It was very clean and the common room was large enough for small groups to enjoy in after a long day of adventures. But, the most important factor for the five star rating was the professional staff, who were very helpful in answering our questions and arranging transportation when needed. I want to particularly mention Pierrot, at the front, for his engaging demeanor and assistance. I am already looking forward in returning next year.
Chose this hotel for its location..so happy we did!!! Very easy walk to all spots in Old Quebec!! Nice restaurant right next door plus loved that they grow food on the rooftop used in the restaurant!!! Our biggest reason for the 5star review is the staff!!!! They made us feel right at home...especially Pierrot, who went above and beyond!! He helped us plan our trip to the Bay of Fundy and suggested things to see and places to stay along the way!!! Wonderful customer service by the entire staff we had the pleasure of meeting!!! Highly recommend this place!!!
