Suburban Motel

If you prefer trees and scenic farmland over asphalt, then you will enjoy your Suburban visit. Our grounds are covered with beautiful mature trees and shrubs, with a generous amount of color being supplied by a variety of flowerbeds, headlined by our gorgeous roses. Corn and wheat fields surround us and enhance the beautiful canvas which is our property. Quiet country roads beckon those who wish to walk or cycle through "the back forty". You can also stay active during your stay by shooting hoops, playing tennis, or having a refreshing swim in our outdoor heated pool.

We have stayed at The Suburban for many years. Usually a three night mid week stay. Lovely hosts who are very helpful and informative about the area and the plays. Our room is sparklingly clean and perfectly appointed with a king bed and a small balcony off the back. Easy to p

This little motel is just perfect!! Mike at the front desk was so very helpful, pleasant and kind. The bed was the most comfortable!!! Much more so than 5 star hotels that cost 4 times as much!! The rooms were large, impeccably clean and VERY quiet!! There is a small back p

It’s not fancy but it’s close to town and has a great pool. There is a barbecue grill and picnic facilities, so it’s very homey. Canada is like that.
The staff is very helpful and will leave you alone if that’s what you want.

For the past few years we have always stayed here - when there is space available, that is. It is very popular. There is a lovely view across a field to a farm from most rooms, a Keurig coffee machine in the room, and a continental breakfast available from the office. You can tal

We stayed here for a softball tournament in August, 2018. We were told upon booking in May, when we arrived and when our friends arrived not to be overly noisy and it was a quiet establishment. We usually like to go to someone's room and have a cocktail after a game, but were ma

Response from Suburban, Owner at Suburban Motel

Firstly I want to thank you and the other people in your group for being respectful of the rules and our other guests while you were here. This is what we ask of all visitors - regardless of the reason for their visit, be it softball, theatre or other - and we appreciate it! With respect to "breakfast" - we do not offer or advertise a breakfast. We do have coffee, muffins and juice in the morning and people can take what they want. There is no limitation of any kind and frankly I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion? To your other points. As you noticed we are a small, quiet motel that is filled predominantly with guests attending the Stratford Festival. Many of these people have been staying with us for decades. When we discovered that you had booked multiple rooms as a baseball group we just clarified what our policies are in that regard. It gave you three months to change your reservations and move to a more group "party" friendly establishment. Since you knew the rules in advance and still chose to stay with us it was assumed that you were fine with the arrangement. The first folks arriving made mention of this being "the party motel" and we quickly reminded them and each other at check in that NO this is not the case and reiterated our policies in that regard. So if making the rules clear in advance and on site in order to protect my other guests constitutes "scolding" - than I guess we are guilty as charged. You mentioned that you paid the same as theatre guests - it's also important to note they paid the same as you - and that entitles them to a peaceful quiet evening. If a Shakespeare group was going to have a big loud gathering they would be subject to the same rules and restrictions. You were treated with the same respect and service as we do all our guests - we just reminded everyone not to get out of hand. We do not cater to sports groups, and actually discourage them - because we know it is not a good fit for the group or our business. We can appreciate teams wanting to get together and have drinks and have a good time - that's understandable - but then you need to select a hotel property that is more suitable for that and not a B&B style motel. We have been doing this for a long time and have seen the ugly side of sports teams, wedding parties etc...and have made a conscious decision to avoid that type of business. Obviously not all people are the same(your group was very nice!) - but unfortunately in our experience and statistically - this is not usually the case and the reason why we are so careful. Our long time regular guests have entrusted us with their loyalty and business and I can not risk damaging those long time relationships and having them feel uncomfortable during their visits. We have also had many people migrate over to our property to avoid some of the chaos that takes place at other properties. I'm sorry you feel like you may have been singled out but I hope you understand things from our perspective.
