If chilling / diving is both top of your list when and you're looking to satisfy both needs: don't look any further, get yourself a ticket to paradise AKA Bohol Island in the Visayas and let Kai & his team take care of the rest: they'll arange any transfer (even when not Bohol but CEBU was your final flight's destination, ferry tickets, private van: all at very fair rates and flexible as philipino time can be. No worries, they really take care of 'EVERYTHING'. I visited this resort with my wife upon recommendation of some friends in the dive industry and I can now see why... Tidy as German gardening can be done, so are the rooms with plenty of space and drawers, sideboards & shelves, a fantastic sea view that offers spectaculars sunsets and a limited number of rooms to preserve the peace and quiet once expects in this somewhat remoted part of Bohol. The 2 hours car drive from major ferry ports on Bohol (either Tagbilaran or Getafe) are well worth the time and trouble... THIS is a place where you will be coming back. Not just for those sunsets, but also for the food, the snorkling, the diving, the peace and quiet, the drinks and the company, the smiles of the staff and... and and...…
This is a superb resort in every way. The owners put so much care into all that they do and the diving is fantastic. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, very well maintained and peaceful. Superb views over the ocean and very pretty gardens with hammocks and sunloungers in spacious gardens. The full board basis would not usually be my first choice but Sunset is the exception. The meals use all fresh ingredients and the quality of menu and cooking is wonderful. The local dive sites are beautiful with many walls and soft corals. Very quiet area which offers a relaxed and personal diving experience. Irvine the dive guide is extremely professional and knows the areas so well. We enjoyed a BBQ on empty stretch of white sand beach in between dives and the staff from Sunset cooked fresh stuffed squid, chicken, pork, mango salsa and salads. A truly wonderful place to stay, cannot recommend highly enough.…
Upon arrival at Sunset you can immediately tell that the place is loved. The garden is amazing, lots of planting amongst old coral, green grass and lovely shrubs. Not only are the initial impressions good, but the staff are great too, right from Sallie the boss, through to the kitchen crew and the dive set up which is very professional. Irvin, the dive master did his upmost to get the most from the 5 days that we had at Sunset, the reefs are pristine, lots of soft corals, plenty of turtles and not many other people around-perfect! If you want to be around great people, in a comfortable resort, with great food and relaxing diving then look no further than Sunset. We will be back!
We spent a week at the resort this past May and enjoyed every second. Everything was perfect: the hospitality, the room, the views, the food and of course the incredible diving. I read quite a few of the reviews and agree with every positive word written: "stunning diving", " delicious food", "the view of the bay is magnificent!" "loved watching the sunset from the garden jacuzzi" . Kei and sally are wonderful hosts, everyone on the staff is friendly and helpful and Erwin the guide is the best guide I have ever had the pleasure to dive with and he sees everything!!!! Lots and lots of nudibranchs , frogfish, seahorses, blue ringed octopii, turtles, and many many more.
This resort is a true gem and romantic hide away for diver couples who enjoy some of the Philippines most beautiful wall diving combined with upscale relaxation. We loved watching the sunset from the garden jacuzzi, following our afternoon dive with top guide Erwin "The Eye", and looking forward to another fun evening with cocktails and tasty cuisine. The (only) four bungalows, nested on top of the coastal wall, have all efficiency and luxury one can expect from German resort owner Kai and his wife Sally, incl. air-con, and offer eagle nest balcony views over the house reef and Ocean. Management's organizational quality extends to the diving center, diving boat, equipment, dive sites selection and presentation. The diving itself offers macro, walls covered with soft corals, turtles, frogfish, and all the usual suspects of the Philippines. Enthusiasts of nudibranches will be thrilled, and the night dive at the house reef holds surprises like blue ring octopus and much more. Accommodating maximum eight guests the Sunset Dive Resort provides an easy-going socializing atmosphere for those who wish to share travel and diving experiences in the evening, but equally all privacy with secluded sun chair corners und umbrella and coconut trees, overlooking the big blue. My wife and I have travelled to dive destinations for twenty years (>1'600 dives), worldwide, a lot of it throughout Asia including Philippines. We have become repeat guests at Sunset Dive Resort for all the reasons mentioned above, and highly recommend the place to divers of beginning and intermediate levels who want to combine really nice diving with really nice vacation time and really nice people... and feel like on a honeymoon trip.…
We spent 6 nights at Sunset Dive Resort. The location is idyllic and the view of the bay is magnificent! Kai and his wife Sally and all the staff are very helpful. Everything is laid out to perfection. This place is peaceful and this is largely due to the fact that there are only 4 bungalows... It's a family place, and we really liked that! Thank you to Kai and Sally for their kindness and their good advices! Highly recommended! Vanessa and Sascha
- Only 4 Basic bungalows with spacious balconies and a beautiful sunset view over the bay/sea. - The western and Philippine food was excellent. They discuss what you like or not. - Hospitality is great. Kai and his wife Salie and their friendly and helpful personnel did anything to make us feel happy and comfortable. - The diving is excellent: especially the corals (colourful and abundant) and macro-life (pigmee seahorses, clown frogfish, blue ringed octopus, lots of special nudibranches, and so on) - Because it is very hard to find the small macro life yourself and we do not know the area, we did almost all of our dives with a guide (a very small guiding fee is added). The very friendly guide (Ervin) did his very best to find very special marine and macro life. Kai, Salie and all of the personnel: Thank you for our fantastic stay! Marcel and Annemarie (Groningen, The Netherlands)…
Summary: Great place with amazing diving at the house reef and surrounding boat diving spots which is just metres away from the bungalows. Stunning view over the sea from very private balconies and really really good food! Kai, Sallie and the rest of the staff are really accommodating and friendly! We will be back! Location: Getting to Guindulman costs around PHP2500 from Tagbilaran, takes around 2-3 hours and is absolutely worth the drive! Accommodation: The resort consists of 4 bungalows which are all overlooking the ocean. The balcony of the bungalow is a great place to hang out and have drinks while overlooking amazing sunsets! Also it is great to have some space to hang up wet dive stuff! The bungalow itself is kept very clean (with housekeeping every day if you like) and even has warm water :) That's particularly great after a night dive! We stayed in bungalow number 4, which is furthest away from the restaurant and we felt it was the most private one. Two of the bungalows have aircon available. Resort: The resort itself is authentically built on top of the rock cliffs. There are lots of flowers and greenery, which makes the place very beautiful! There are several areas with sunbeds, but my favourite was the hammock overlooking the sea! There is Wifi available almost everywhere (but who needs internet at such a great place :) ) The restaurant/ lounge is the centre point of the place where all meals are served. Food: So good!!! Sallie prepares all meals, which were all really yummie. Before we arrived, I let them know that I don't eat seafood and it was no problem for them to accommodate! I loved the breakfast, consisting of tea and coffee, juice, eggs, cold platter, pancake, bread (and more). The rate includes full board! Diving: Before arriving at Sunset Resort, we had dived around Apo Island and Balicasaq so we were already reasonably spoiled with the quality of diving! The diving at Sunset was equally amazing with walls dropping down to around 30m. There was a great coral top with lots of soft corals, I think we could have stayed at around 3-5m for the whole dive and would have not been bored! But our absolute highlight was the night dive! (mind you, I dont usually enjoy night dives!!!). It was incredible! It is totally worth paying for the local dive guide (Elvin), as he knows these diving areas sooo well! We saw so many things, it is impossible to list them all!!! We brought our own gear, but the dive shop offers well maintained equipment if you need it! The whole dive area set up is really well thought through, except for the steep steps that lead to the water, but you can pay 1Euro for someone to carry your equipment ;) Totally worth it! They allow you to go diving in buddy teams, which served us right, as we could dive as long as we wanted and go in our own pace! (Everywhere else we had to go with a guide and other divers) Lastly, Sunset's dive boat (banka) was one of the biggest and most diver friendly we had in the Philippines! Around the resort: There is not too much around the resort, except for a local market and Anda, which is known for its white beaches. You can visit the Chocolate Hills and the monkeys from the resort as an organised tour (Kai will sort you out!). We did the tour on our way back to Tagbilaran as we couldn't dive anyway one day before our flight. Overall: As mentioned earlier, we had an amazing time at Sunset! Currently the resort mainly caters for Germans, however, that was obviously not a big problem as everybody spoke English as well. Kai, Sallie and the staff are very welcoming and respond to inquiries very quickly, just email or text them! Thanks for an amazing time!…
If you’re looking for an exclusive and quiet retreat place while enjoying some good diving, I would highly recommend Sunset Dive Resort! A hidden gem in Guindulman, Bohol. Beautifully landscaped little resort with enough space for every guest to find their own quiet place within the resort to chill out after every dive. Spacious and nice sea-facing room where you can watch sunset right at your balcony everyday. Great attention to details, good food and friendly staff. I had a great time there. I'm sure you will be well-taken care of when you're there!
