Capt.Rich made sure I am home away from home.if you are looking for a vacation that you won't forget go to tropico scuba diving resort because they are not just a resort destination but a place where everyone is a family and fun and laughter is their top priority.thanks capt rich and more power to tropico. I have been diving with tropico may times in the past year, many shore dives out in front,,,a number of dives out in front of the national highway,of San Jose, and trips to sumilion island, plus a couple of pier dives. Each dive has been a nice experience,,,with many creatures to be seen. Most of my dives are an hour or two long,,,,searching for nudi,,,and watching fish behavior,,,,like dragonettees along the walls,,,file fish in the shallows, crabs crawling at low tide,,,etc, etc. i ll be back again for more diving,,,i want to see the sharks off of the east side of sumilion island,,or the tip of cebu. Captain rich is continously working on improving, both of his boats,,doing proper maintenance, and ensuring safety. He is one of the few owners who has certified divemasters, and captains.as far as the rooms,,,they are clean,,have a pirate theme and are set up for the handicap ,,,with wide doors,,,and grab rails in numerous place. I've never stayed in the rooms, because I'm local. He certified my girlfriend/wife open water,,,and worked with her until she had achieved the requirements, and was comfortable diving,,,always working on her buoyancy,to protect the enviroment,it's amazing how good of a diver, she has become in such a short time,,,thank you captain rich and your crew for all you have done for me and ivy.

Our first visit here left us with a memory we won't forget, extremely good and comfortable rooms with a great customised bed :D
The place it self if very well planned, all rooms with sea view and the restaurant with the bar in the beginning of the resort.
The instructors there are just amazing, very patient and know what they are doing with their great experience and vast knowledge.
The guides are one of the best ones i have ever seen, they find all the smallest things you didn't even know existed, its just amazing.
I do have to say that the whole crew in this pirates nest are just awesome from the cleaning ladies to the bar crew.
We will defiantly visit soon again and this time bring our friends!

Dear Richard & Mabel,

How wonderful was our stay at Tropico a few weeks ago. Richard, thank you for your excellent diving lessons, I liked it very very much! It was a great pleasure to meet again a few days later. It was a warm welcome at Tropico. You both did a marvelous job at your place. We are astonished by your passion to make diving possible for the disabled. You are doing a great job!
Also, thank you for taking us to the twin lakes. Your company made it a very special trip. We had great pleasure in our conversations, and Mabel: the rum later on was delicious (and the food also). How is the Dutch going? ;-) And your keyboard lessons? Richard, I hope Frankenstein turned out very well!

Dear Richard & Mabel: thank you very very much. We very like to meet again. Please tell us if you're coming to Europe. We will show you some old buildings ;-)

Wishing you all the best (and a happy New Year!),

Claire

Richard, firstly, thank you, a great host, teacher, and scuba diver. We enjoyed our stay, the food was great, the accommodations a little different being a pirate theme, but it was wonderful to enact some of history, and firing the canons was brilliant.
Scuba diving at the white sandbar and Oslob whale sharks were my favorites, Tropico resorts boat is well designed and very professional for scuba diving, all in all we had a great time and would recommend it to others.

I recently stayed at Tropico Beach Resort and it is quite the pirate hangout for anyone looking for comfortable, relaxing place to stay. Beds were comfortable, different sized rooms to accommodate several types of guests. Whole facility is wheelchair accessible and friendly for the elderly, my grandmother was able to easily get around and even snorkel a bit in the water. My friend's and I open water course was smooth and efficient, diving in the area is supreme, even with some rain and clouds nearby Sumilon Island was beautiful site to see. Staff is friendly and willing to whip up menu items for all meals as you wish, including full bar for a cold San Miguel or some local rhum. My group and I had an excellent time and would enjoy coming back for some extra dive lessons, good times, and sit back to enjoy the beautiful sunrise/sunset!

We made our way here for dinner. Unfortunately there was no food. We opted to have a drink before moving on. The choice was beer or beer. Staff was perfectly friendly but for future reference I would suggest to call ahead if you would like to have dinner here 😉
as diving is their specialty I can understand they only run the restaurant when they have guests. Pity for us 😢

richard was very patient with me and throughout my certifications. the GREATEST thing about richard is that is is a historian and had SUCH funny and educational stories which is such an asset when it comes to understanding a concept. he also has very funny videos to learn the CPR section of the class....i will NEVER forget how to give CPR...that is for sure. if nothing else guys.....get your certification for first aid....there are two funny videos that will leave you in stitches! and NEVER forgetting the concepts of how to save a life!

We had 2 nights before our flight to Cebu and didnt want to stay in Dumaguete, but also not venture too far, so we found Tropico, and (partly due to all the good reviews), booked it.

It is a pirate theme decorated place, a bit liked childhood dreams coming true. Definitely unique.

Firstly, we are not divers, so I can't judge on everything related to diving. We made a booking the day before. We arrived on a rainy day, so mainly stayed in the restaurant, had drinks, were playing games and chilled out. We were the only guests, so things were really quiet. However, once we wanted to order lunch, we were surprised to learn that they had no vegetable and no pasta. We are vegetarians, so the only food available was french fries. There are no other restaurants in that little town and they don't rent motorbikes, so we were a bit stuck. Didn't expect 5*-dining but were also not keen on deep fried foods. We thought that was a bit odd, since they knew we were arriving. Maybe we were just too early in the day?

Other than that, it is what it is. The owner and his partner and staff were really friendly, offered to put movies on or to borrow board games.

Breakfast was included in the rate, but it felt a bit like asking someone far a favor both days. Both days, our "toast" was a sliced burger bun, which was served while a little girl was watching her cartoons for hours. It would have been nice to put on the news (which we surely could have asked for), but it was just that strange feeling when you feel like you are interrupting people in what they are doing and don't even want to bother.

As I said, they are friendly people, and it probably makes a big difference whether you are a diver, or whether other guests are there, but we were quite happy to move on.

Response from Richard O, Owner at Tropico Scuba Diving Resort
Responded Feb 19, 2015
It is true, we are out of the city, so that we can have our own beach for training scuba divers. Also it is true we do not rent motorcycles. It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle in the Philippines without a Philippine drivers license. We at Tropico do not want to assume an illegal liability. Our primary function is to teach people to Scuba Dive. We are a PADI Authorized Dive Resort. Other people come just to relax in a seaside environment. All are welcome at Tropico, our home is your home, in a no pressure laid back atmosphere. Many guests do not communicate their intentions to us. Some do. We prefer emails and communications prior to your arrival. This way we can cater to your foods and other activities. We offer Hiking., Twin Lakes., Diving., Whale Shark Tours. Things go smoother with planning. Pre arrangements guarantee success for your personal agenda.
