More than one hundred steps lead down to Kookoo’s nest Eco-lodge, which comprises of six simple, comfortable, native-style bamboo beach cottages and rooms, with a central restaurant. They are set in a pocket of woodland that slopes steeply down to the edge of a small secluded sandy cove, facing the sunset. The buildings have been beautifully constructed by artisans from the village using traditional techniques, from locally sourced bamboo and the leaves of the Nipa-palm. The ladies from the village prepare excellent fresh food for the restaurant and see to guest’s everyday needs, while their husbands tend the herb gardens, carry provisions, and drive the boats. A small dive-shop offers tuition and diving on the beautiful coral reefs that surround the peninsula. Snorkeling gear is available for those who do not dive, and Kayaks can be rented for exploring Tambobo bay, fishing village and remote beaches.
Paradise. Perfect in every way; food, diving, hospitality, amazing accommodation, massage. Relaxing but also things to do; nice walks, snorkelling, kayaking, dogs & a cat. Wonderful buffet each night, great opportunity to meet people & share stories. Great corals and lots of fish; Jamie and Nikki care for the environment and are passionate about the local area and what they do. Wouldn't hesitate to come back.

I'll start with the owners Nikki and Jamie. Oh so nice with their dogs, Barney, Bella, Toby, Daisy and Sally (the sausage dog). What an adorable bunch. The staff and cooks are very friendly as well. Food? Freshly baked bread, herbs from their own garden. Choices are endless with Asian and European influences and everything in between. They have a few cottages with great views of the ocean. Just shoot away while relaxing on your hammock. Accommodations are basic, clean rooms and bathrooms. Sorry, well not sorry that there are No air conditioners and water heaters. It's living at its purest with bamboo architecture I've not seen anywhere. I'll tell you more but it's better you experience it for yourself. Oh and I had an intro dive, Jamie is the best teacher, I recommend you try…

We spent 2 nights in a fabulous bamboo hut. The best we have ever seen. It s rustic but beautiful. You can open the wooden stores and completely open the room and the terasse, enjoy a hammock with a sunset view. The food is also great. Depending on affluence, they propose a buffet, always tasty and healthy. Home made bread, crepes and cocktails are highly recommended. The beach is also very nice and only used by customers so you can expect a lot of space for you. Good snorkeling spot in addition to that and it s 30min away from the harbour to go to apo island. The hotel is a little difficult to reach but you have to deserve a place like that. We recommend to ask the owner to organize a pick up by van, or by motorbike if you have light bags. Tricycle will really struggle in the…

I read the negative reviews and they don't reflect our experiences. We found the place quiet, relaxing, very private and very enjoyable. Saw lizards at night in the roof of our hut, but no rats. Our hut was excellent: well designed, well built, outside bathroom, hammock on the porch, and nice view. The lighting was excellent, unobtrusive, well focused, and didn't leak into the environment. And we had a nice view. The menu was extensive, and the food excellent. Brewed coffee comes in one's own coffee press. There's also a nice cocktail list. It didn't seem to me it took a long time to be served, but we would have a pre-dinner cocktail and have nothing else on our agenda. This is a very good speed for this location. The shower was cold, and I don't like cold showers, but it's…

Room is nice and very authentic, every room has bathroom and a fan. Food is just great and the prices are awesome ;) and a buffet every evening is very family-like. Pier is nice to chill and swim even though the beach is hard for getting into the water. Jamie and Nikki are friendly and always ready to help. It was a perfect retreat and we really wish to come back, and this time - for much longer! Thank you.

Great place! Impressing and cozy cabines, all handmade by the owner Jamie himself. Good food! Had a perfect high quality dive experience with Nikki at Apo Island. The best place to unwind and relax. We had some problems with our bank cards in the phillipines, they were most helpful and kind to us.

This was the 3rd time we'd stayed at the beautiful KooKoo's Nest. The attraction is the peaceful location, the excellent food and the overall chilled atmosphere. The individually designed, native styled cottages blend into the hillside overlooking the small private beach with a west (sunset) view. The cottage we stayed in is perched on a rock and offers the most beautiful private view out to sea. The room was fairly basic with very clean private bathroom and came with a fan. And that is all you need with the lovely coastal breeze through the raised bamboo shutters. There is wifi in the dining area. The food, to us, is one of the main attractions. The owners have skillfully trained local employees to cook outstanding quality food which is delicious, well priced and well…

Staying in kookoo's nest was one of my favorite vacations. It was like we own the place, because it was peaceful and they only have 6 huts. Although it was far from the city, but if you want to get away from the buzz and hassle this is one perfect place. Hoping to get back again.

About 90 minutes away from Dumaguete (bus and motorcycle ride), you can reach Kookoo's Nest. The trip will surely be worth it. They have few cottages, we were the only ones checked in during our stay. They have a private beach. They also have an inhouse restaurant. Too bad we were not able to meet the owners. They were on vacation during our stay. We stayed in a beach-front bungalow with an attic. Love the setup. It's rustic and has a good view of the beach. Also impressed with how they integrated pulleys and ropes, making it easier to open the windows. Will definitely go back here!

An enjoyable rustic stay right on the beach. Pleasant staff who prepare nice local meals at your request. It is out of the way, no fancy amenities, but if you want a relaxing stay without any crowds, come here.
