More than one hundred steps lead down to Kookoo’s nest Eco-lodge, which comprises of six simple, comfortable, native-style bamboo beach cottages and rooms, with a central restaurant. They are set in a pocket of woodland that slopes steeply down to the edge of a small secluded sandy cove, facing the sunset. The buildings have been beautifully constructed by artisans from the village using traditional techniques, from locally sourced bamboo and the leaves of the Nipa-palm. The ladies from the village prepare excellent fresh food for the restaurant and see to guest’s everyday needs, while their husbands tend the herb gardens, carry provisions, and drive the boats. A small dive-shop offers tuition and diving on the beautiful coral reefs that surround the peninsula. Snorkeling gear is available for those who do not dive, and Kayaks can be rented for exploring Tambobo bay, fishing village and remote beaches.
We had been told about this secluded haven while staying in a resort up the coast. Due to a cancelled ferry and a change in plans we were lucky enough to stay for four days. The resort comprises of 6 bamboo cottages all cooled by sea breezes. Our cottage (Kingfisher) had two bedrooms and a balcony which had a hammock and a large area to sit and relax. The House reef is beautiful and has many different corals and fish. There are other sheltered dive sites in the area. We were there during bad weather so really appreciated this sheltered cove. During our stay we were also able to dive at Apo Island we visited three different sights which were great. The food available in the resort is delicious Nikki selects top quality produce and the results are yummy. Even the sandwiches…

I highly recommend this quiet yet so beautiful resort with only few guests accommodation. You’ll get the complete relaxation that you’re aiming for. I will definitely come back to this beach to go kayaking and swimming. Good food and view. Entrance P200 consumable for day trip.

I would rate KooKoo's nest as 6 stars if I could. The fresh food, accomodating staff and many personal touches donated by Nicky and Jamie to the place made for an incredible visit. I can't get over the balance of nature and comfort that has been created at this resort. We fell asleep each night to the soft sounds of waves just feet from our cozy cottage and woke to fresh-pressed coffee just as we liked it in the morning. Would recommend this place to any traveler looking for a quiet place to recover from jet lag or get away from the busy city. Can't wait to bring my sister here next June. -Emma W

We had a lovely three nights at Kookoo's Nest, which is located in a cove on a dry peninsular quite unlike the rest of Negros, and around the corner from Tambobo Bay. Its only problem is that it has a tiny beach and is extremely popular with day visitors. This is by no means the fault of the resort, but kind of belies the beautiful remoteness of the location. The owners work very hard to make the operation a success. Our cottage, Hibiscus, was delightful, particularly the balcony and its views of the sunset. There are six cottages clinging to a cliff, ingeniously made out of bamboo and nipa, with no air conditioning, just electric fans, and full exposure to delicious sea breezes. The view was amazing, particularly watching the fishing fleet coming in and out of Tambobo Bay.…

What Nicky and Jamie have created is perfect! We had 4 wonderful nights at Kookoo's Nest and loved everything about the experience. Getting a motorbike from the main road was fun but a bit scary, so getting a van back to the main road is a it safer. The food at the resort is beautiful and the staff so generous with smiles. We hope to return with our family soon.

My family and I checked out after 1 night of a supposedly 2 night stay. I was traveling with 3 kids (9, 7 and 4) and eating in a reasonable amount of time when they're hungry is important to me. During dinner our first night, our dinner which I ordered hours beforehand arrived around 40 minutes late. The kids' dessert did not come even if the waitstaff said it was ready. So my daughter and I went to the kitchen to see what was happening. I asked when the dessert will come out and they said soon. So we just watched observing. The owner passed by and said "They're busy, don't watch." I said, "isn't this what the window is for? So we can watch them cook? (with a smile - non-combative). Then she just said again, They're busy. Don't watch. And walked off. So this left a sour note…

My boyfriend and I met up with several friends at the Kookoo's Nest the last week of March. We had very little idea of what to expect on this vacation. Upon arrival, if you choose the locals way of transportation(which you should!), you'll get a cheaper value and memories of a lifetime. We traveled an hour and half on a motorcycle taxi/habal habal. Beware of the sun intensity: you will fry. like. bacon! We were warmly greeted by a group of dogs and the very lovely restaurant staff. We shared the Kingfisher cottage with two other friends. Cold water only in the showers. Don't drink the water....use the filtered water in the dining area! I recommend not bringing nice clothes. Swim suits and lounge clothes are perfect for the Kookoo's Nest atmosphere. You are far away from a city…

So, we very very rarely stay at one place twice and to stay three times the place has got to be somewhere really special........Kookoo's Nest is that special. I won't go on about the magical location, mesmerising house reef (and diving), small but perfectly formed beach, simply beautiful and clean bungalows, food to die for, fun company......the list is endless. It's incredible in this day and age to know that somethings never change. ! Thank you Nikki, Jamie and the ladies (and of course the dogs) for another wonderful stay, see you in September! This place is so good. Cozy surroundings, kindly staff and owners and delicious homemade food. The water is very clear and perfect for diving and snorkeling. The cottages are very charming and it's all bamboos. It's definitely a worth visiting this place and it's not difficult to get here by bus from Dumaguete. See you again Kookoo's Nest :)
