#1 of 5 B&Bs / Inns in Zamboanguita
More than one hundred steps lead down to Kookoo’s nest Eco-lodge, which comprises of six simple, comfortable, native-style bamboo beach cottages and rooms, with a central restaurant. They are set in a pocket of woodland that slopes steeply down to the edge of a small secluded sandy cove, facing the sunset. The buildings have been beautifully constructed by artisans from the village using traditional techniques, from locally sourced bamboo and the leaves of the Nipa-palm. The ladies from the village prepare excellent fresh food for the restaurant and see to guest’s everyday needs, while their husbands tend the herb gardens, carry provisions, and drive the boats. A small dive-shop offers tuition and diving on the beautiful coral reefs that surround the peninsula. Snorkeling gear is available for those who do not dive, and Kayaks can be rented for exploring Tambobo bay, fishing village and remote beaches.

This place is cute and scores high on the value for money ratio. The bungalows are basic but clean and super cute. The biggest asset is for sure the balcony of the bungalow with its hammock. It's so relaxing at night to just sit there and listen to the sound of the waves while you see the little lights of the fishermen's boats in.a distance. Their best attribute is the restaurant where they serve nothing but absolute yumminess for breakfast (absolute sublime with home baked bread and jam!!!!) lunch and dinner and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Don't expect real luxury, it's very basic and the beach is indeed private but its a thin ribbon which is rocky. To get to the resort and away you need to come down and go up a steep long stairway to cover the +\- 50m difference

Its hard to find .. don't miss the small signs . The disappointment is the paradise pictures compared to the " brutal" reality . How they manage to make the beach look wide and spacious .. I dont know . anyway ; the beach is a 35/40 meters wide and the cabins rather close to eachother so not that much privacy . I know very well that i am not at a fast food resto but almost wait 1 hour for a simple meal? I have never eaten something anyway near a real pizza at Negros :)) and this one was no exception. Anyone who can tell a cook that a pizza is more then a circle of bread with some topping of tomato paste and some ( philip.) cheese can become rich :)) To end positive : A compliment for the fried fish : really good .

Our family had our weekend vacay at kookoo's nest because my daughter spent her vacation there last holy week season. But we didn't enjoy our stay because of very poor accomodation &services.the restaurant opens very late in the morning & we have to wait to get our hot water.and the food...can't understand how it is cooked. Bad experience.

Response from JamieandNikki, Owner at Kookoo's Nest
Responded 23 May 2019
The accommodation at Kookoo's Nest Eco-Lodge is very simple and rustic, with breezy bungalows of bamboo and nipa-palm construction. This is part of the charm and attraction. Please do not come expecting concrete rooms, air-conditioning, TV, swimming pool, etc. Our Kitchen is open from 7 AM until 9 PM. I'm sorry if this seemed a late start to you. We are happy to put out a flask of hot water if asked. I'm sorry that you did not enjoy our food. Perhaps because we do not put what we consider unnecessary sugar in our food or any MSG. I do understand that this tastes a bit different, but it is healthy and much more palatable to visitors from overseas.

This was our 3rd visit to Kookoosnest and every time it has got better! If you are looking for air conditioned sterility you had better stop reading now. If, however you are looking for rustic charm in an incredible setting with superb food, great service and lovely hosts then keep reading because this place is for you! The wooden huts are spacious, clean and incredibly good value with good bathroom facilities. The restaurant is first class with a range of food to suit all tastes made by staff who have been there since we first visited 12 years ago (a very good sign). They have a buffet feast each night for the residents which is unparalleled in terms of quality and value. The diving from here is spectacular with the reef no further than 10 metres off the beach with a

Kookoos Nest is a little slice of paradise. It's quiet, in the middle of nowhere and all quite basic and that all adds to the charm. The setting is beautiful, bamboo cottages nestling in the trees on the edge of the beach. Jamie and Nikki are friendly hosts who are happy to have a drink with you or leave you be. The diving is great, well organised and just off the beach. And finally the food is amazing! Everything is home cooked and just yummy. We loved our time here and would love to go back.
