My partner and i visited Kookoo's Nest in January 2018. Loved every bit of our experience there. We arrived near sunset -- it was magical! Food was good, hosts were warm (really helpful + they arranged a diving/snorkeling tour/ transportation for us), the beach was private, the accommodations were basic but ticked all the boxes (no need for AC! the seabreeze is the best), everyone in the place felt like family. Would love to visit again!
Average looking by Thai standards, tiny beach, felt unwelcome. Strange policy of 200 peso per head to use (or not?) the resturaunt (why not have fully booked/no reservations sign at the top of the steps)? The staff ingnored us for 10-15 minutes so I walked around and took some photos with the view of booking a week or so there during January (I live an hour away) for a change of scenery. I didn’t like the atmosphere - we weren’t offered a cold drink or a “hi” after our journey despite there being just a few customers. Location is important and it’s a nice enough place but a welcome and good service is also important. After reading some of the reviews and visiting I get the impression the place is a bit hit and miss. They don’t make any reference to their limited numbers…
This place was rumoured to have some of the best food and one of the best sunsets in negros. One of those very pleasant times the rumours were true! I stayed with a ‘friend’ In a cottage and it was super cool. At night when all the lights are off, you can sneak down to the restaurant/ beach and see 1000s of hermit crabs! I hope it stays small and quiet forever it’s amazing and I rate it higher then any of the resorts I went to on negros.... as always with the Philippines customer service can be..... well bad but it’s no worse then any other place and the standard for here was more then met if not exceeded.
Stayed for two nights at KooKoos - right from the beginning it felt like staying at a (very lucky) friends house. The rooms opened out to the beach with comfortable beds and good quality mosquito nets. The food was high quality (recommend the Kinilaw and the veggie Thai curry) and the drinks (especially margaritas!) were great. We snorkelled off the jetty and saw lots of coral, a sea snake, lion fish, barracuda... watching sunset from the end of the jetty with a drink in hand was spectacular. Highly recommended if you want to get off the beaten track and unwind. Not recommended if you need creature comforts like air conditioning or if you’re freaked out by potentially meeting a creepy crawly.
We stayed the other night. My family with lots of kids. The cottage was beautiful, open, and airy. Enough space for 3 adults and 4 kids. The beach is beautiful and secluded so it's nice and private. The food in the restaurant is really good. Everything was fresh. They took our food order and while cooking it we went and hung out on the beach. They would let us know just as everything was being plated. Would definitely recommend and we will go back the next time we have a break.
