We reserved the nicest room on the property "Premium Suite with pool view". There is no TV, radio or mini fridge- actually there wasn't much of anything in the room except so old frayed towels. The lighting was so bad you couldn't see without using phone flashlights. The hot water only lasted about 3-4 minutes. The bedding was hard and sheets smelled. Many bugs in the room. Our first day we went to Sumilon Island for day trip and really should have booked a stay there as it was much nicer and friendlier. When we returned to Granada, our room had not been cleaned and when we requested they refused. Owner arrived after complaint and refused to even change out the dirty linens or move us to a clean room for the night. Owner said that we could leave so we packed up and headed to better facility. When we checked out they even refused to refund for the second night stay. Absolutely horrible facility, staff and overall treatment.

Response from Lisa Gonzales, Owner at Granada Beach Resort
Responded 3 weeks ago
There are always two sides to every story. Here are the facts relating to your stay… We do not advertise any of our rooms being furnished with televisions, radios or refrigerators. Also, we state that Wi-Fi is available in the public areas of the resort. Being located on a peninsular overlooking the ocean, the Wi-Fi signal is from the local cell towers, as there is no local fibre or cable network. Here at Granada, we promote the concept of disconnecting from the outside world and enjoying the natural surroundings. We are not a city/convention hotel. Our restaurant serves breakfast followed by an all-day dining menu. The restaurant closes at 9:00pm with a last meal order at 8:15pm. As you arrived after 9:00pm, you could have chosen to call-ahead or email prior to your arrival, in order for us to assist you. However, you chose not to. If your room was so bad, we must ask why you did not raise any of your concerns with us the following morning at breakfast? Instead, you ate your breakfast and departed for your day-out. You returned to the resort at approximately 6:00pm, and found your room had not been cleaned. This was because you did not hang the wooden ‘clean room’ sign outside your door. You said you did not see it, even though it is located with the air-conditioning remote (which you used). When departing for your day-out you also chose not to ask the front desk for housekeeping services. Our housekeeping team do not enter guest’s rooms without permission. This is our resort policy to ensure guests privacy, to protect our team from any possible security complaints, to limit unnecessary physical contact in-line with our post-pandemic health and safety policy, and to support our environmental policies of limiting towel and linen changes. Upon discovering your room had not been cleaned, you immediately threatened to check-out unless cleaning was performed. Our front desk supervisor was visibly shaken by her interaction with you and asked me, as business owner, to intervene. I knocked on your door and the first thing you said to me was (quote) ”Are you going to clean my room? Otherwise, we are out of here.” I explained that the housekeeping team had already left for the day, but that I will contact one of them at home to see if she is available to return and clean your room. I also cautioned you that, as business owners, we do respect our employees work-life balance. You responded by saying (quote) “You have 5 minutes to do that, or we are checking-out.” The resort was fully-occupied during your stay. There were no alternative rooms available. You complained that you cannot sleep in a dirty room. Given you had only checked-in the previous night, and departed after breakfast, how did your room become so dirty? Presumably, this was because of your domestic behaviour. Our housekeeping team members were unavailable to return to the resort and clean your room. You refused to understand that the only staff we had on-site during the evening were two chefs, two restaurant service staff and a front desk supervisor. They were all busy with dinner service for our guests; they are not housekeeping specialists. You visited the front desk and continued with your demands, including asking me to clean your room. You berated me by asking if I knew anything about running a business. You stated to me that you will damage our business, and you also turned to your companion asking her to involve her brothers. You demanded an immediate refund, which we declined, as your reservation was made through an online booking agency. We did inform you to contact their customer service team to deal with your refund request. Your behaviour was simply offensive. As a woman, you attempted to make me feel so low with your misogynistic demands that I should clean your room. Your line of questioning was degrading and disrespectful. Each of us at the resort has a role to play in ensuring we deliver a great customer experience. But we are also a business that has the courage to stand-up and protect our dignity from individuals who believe they can behave how they wish within society. We are proud to achieve a 5/5 rating for service and cleanliness here at Tripadvisor, and we continue to work hard to achieve this.

Property's Favorite Review
We enjoyed Granada Beach Resort so much last September, we couldn't wait to get back. This peaceful resort is perfect for a relax and recharge. The private beach gave us hours of pleasure, and on more than one occasion we had it completely to ourselves - luxury. The pool, gardens, bedrooms and buildings are very well maintained and the Housekeeping staff keep the rooms to a very high standard indeed. We loved spending the evening having a cocktail (and there are plenty to choose from) before sitting down to a delicious meal. The food is great, very well presented, and with an additional special dish each night we were never short of choice during our 11 night stay. In our opinion, this resort is also excellent value for money. The staff are very attentive, friendly, and polite. The resort is closely and carefully managed, and the owners certainly made us feel part of their Granada family. We have travelled extensively around the Philippines over the last 13 years and would rate this resort as the best we have stayed at. We are already planning our next visit. If you are contemplating staying at Granada Beach Resort, we would say give it a try, it certainly has our strongest possible recommendation.

So there is no TV, no fridge in the room. But that's just because you're supposed to go there and chill and relax, and they did a great job. You can borrow snorkelling gear for free and check out their private beach. Or just lay beside the pool with a good book. Their restaurant was the best, delicious dishes, great cocktails, and at a bargain price!

I'm very happy we chose Granada Beach Resort for me and my husband's 4-day Cebu trip. We needed a break from the busy and stressful life of the city and we got that very-much needed peace at Granada. From the very moment you step your foot in their resort, you'll feel their care right away and their passion to give you the best stress-free and relaxing experience. Here are some of the things I loved about Granada: - their staff speak English very well. They are very attentive - their free breakfast is so good. - you could borrow their snorkeling gears. - their private beach is clean and quiet. - you get a beautiful view everywhere in the hotel. - their massage area makes you feel like the massage bed is on the water. The sound of the waves are just so calming. - massive rooms - drinking water everywhere - food at the restaurant is so good! we didn't have to go out and find any other restaurant. Also loved meeting the owners (Lisa and Mike). Hearing their perspective of things and vision for Granada Beach Resort makes us feel so excited to come back. Seriously, even in the city, it's so hard to find a service that could match Granada's level of service. They're the best!

We (wife and I) just finished our 11-day stay at Granada Beach Resort and must say it was an unforgettable experience. The resort is located south of Cebu Island, 15 minutes away from Oslob's whale sharks and Tumalog waterfalls, having nearby supermarkets where you can do some shopping. The resort is adults-only, so expect some quietness. The quality of the restaurant, with an international menu, and the attention of all staff will ensure you are satisfied during your stay. Tours and excursions to the main attractions are offered on demand; tuc-tucs can also be arranged on site to get you into Oslob or Boljoon. A big plus is that the resort is directly located on top of a beautiful coral reef, making it a mandatory visit for those lovers of underwater activities (bring your PADI certificate!) Rooms are spacious, comfy and we'll equipped, all facing the swimming pool. Bottled water is available across the whole place. All in all, one of those rare places to be visited again. Thank you Elise, Mike and all staff for your kindness, Alvaro and Nadia

Granada Beach Review: Nov 20-24, 2022 I had a hectic schedule and holiday in both South Korea and Manila, Philippines prior to my vacation in Granada Beach Resort, Cebu. Therefore, I was really looking forward to a relaxing and peaceful stay at Granada. And this resort did not disappoint. I was truly recharged at the end of my stay, esp after a massage with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. My 5-day mini vacation was truly amazing and an unforgettable experience - from the cozy, clean, comfortable and spacious hotel room to the delicious and well presented meals and cocktails to the quiet quaint beach atmosphere, this resort is indeed a gem. Considering it is quite far from the airport, the owners managed to serve the highest quality ingredients. The staff is attentive to the guests and well trained. I often dine out in Canada and stayed at some of the best hotels including the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and The Rimrock, and I can confidently vouch for Granada’s food and beverage as if you had ordered from a trendy restaurant or a 5-star hotel in Canada…The mango float dessert is a must! These are some of Granada’s best qualities that stood out to me : - strong wifi even in the room ⁃ cozy ambience including the pool and oceanfront ⁃ Clean and peaceful surroundings ⁃ Deliciously well prepared meals and cocktails with reasonable prices ⁃ Staff is eager to please and serve ⁃ Cozy and spacious accommodations ⁃ Owners interact with guests and are always at hand to answer questions I highly recommend this boutique hotel and will definitely be back. We’ve stayed here soooo many times since we first chanced upon it on before the pandemic hit. The staff and the owners are like family to us now. Granada is our SANCTUARY. Every stay is always a delight! The service is superb. The rooms are homey and lovely. The food is so good! Their desserts are my fave! The beds are so comfy! Their linens are 5-star quality. It’s just a super relaxing place to be, especially for a couple of busy bees who just want a quiet day at the beach. Oh, did i mention that they have a beautiful house reef?

We've become regular visitors at Granada Beach Resort, quite simply we can find no where better. Yet again we have relaxed in this peaceful, tranquil setting. Even though the resort was almost full, on many occasions we had the whole of the beach to ourselves. Who could ask for more. The service is always very good, and the new staff had obviously been well trained and indoctrinated in the Granada way. The restaurant and bar provide an intimate setting and commanding views of the bay. The food was delicious, presented in a top class way, and with the daily specials, offering plenty of choice. Housekeeping is always first rate. For us, this small, very well maintained, value for money resort has everything we need for a getaway to remember. The owners remain dedicated to providing the best service and environment in which to enjoy. We've already booked for Christmas - it'll soon be here.

Really enjoyable. Our Terrace Room is beside the pool. It is very clean and has everything we need. The pool is just the right size and is cleaned every morning. The restaurant has lovely views of the bay and the coastline, and the food is excellent, and varied, and served with little waiting time. The forest walk leads to a tranquil point where we enjoy watching the waves roll by, in between those delicious meals. We stay with fabulous hosts Mike and Lisa for Christmas/New Year, Easter, Birthdays, and our wedding anniversary... Christmas is next month...YEAH!

Wow, we had such a great time at GBR. Mike, Lisa and the staff were so awesome. Food was fantastic. Coffee was the best we had on our trip. The resort was so relaxing. Diving and snorkeling the house reef was great. Mike was very helpful and a joy to dive with. Lisa made sure our excursions to swim with the Whale Sharks and visit Tumalog Falls were all arranged and hassle free for us. She also arranged our transfers from Cebu and on Liloan Port. We stayed at some very high end resorts and some dive only resorts on our vacation. Granada Beach Resort was a perfect blend and was our favorite. Our only regret was only staying 4n/5d. We will be going back someday.
