Motto by Hilton Tulum is often celebrated for its rooftop amenities, including inviting pools and a well-equipped gym, despite some guests pointing out the smaller rooms and water issues. The central location is a hit for its proximity to local attractions, though it lacks a beachfront. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with travelers consistently commending the property's upkeep. However, the hotel's value is questioned due to high costs and additional fees. While the atmosphere is lively and the decor chic, the music can sometimes disrupt the tranquility. Service receives mixed reviews, with the staff generally recognized for their courteous demeanor.

Motto by Hilton in Tulum offers a mix of highs and lows, making it a unique experience overall. First and foremost, the staff is incredible—friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. A special shoutout to Memo at the front desk and Jose, the manager, who went above and beyond to ensure flexibility and top-notch service. Their genuine hospitality really stood out.

The ambiance and environment of the hotel are lovely. With a good bar in the center of the plaza and nearby cafes, restaurants, and boutiques, the location is perfect for exploring and relaxing. The rooms, while on the smaller side, were comfortable and well-maintained. The bed was especially cozy, and the cleaning staff did a great job keeping the room spotless throughout our stay.

A thoughtful touch was the complimentary Ice Challenge provided by the hotel in collaboration with the “Tribu Halo” center—a unique and refreshing experience that we truly enjoyed.

The food at the hotel, however, was a mixed bag. While the burgers, guacamole, wedge fries, and drinks like the Michelada and Piña Colada were great, most of the dishes felt overly greasy and oily. The buffet breakfast was particularly disappointing—it lacked freshness, and items like the toast, fruit cuts, and general buffet options didn’t meet expectations. That said, the breakfast menu items like the avocado toast were much better and worth trying. I would avoid the buffet altogether unless you’re opting for simple things like honey, jam, or nuts. The coffee and espresso also fell short, which was a letdown for a morning pick-me-up.

The rooftop is a nice feature, but the pool didn’t look clean or fresh, which was a bit concerning. Daily maintenance would make a big difference here and improve the overall experience.

In summary, Motto by Hilton has a lot going for it—amazing staff, a great location, comfortable rooms, and thoughtful extras like the Ice Challenge—but there are areas that need improvement, particularly the food quality and pool cleanliness. It’s a good choice if you’re looking for friendly service and a lively environment, but there’s definitely room for growth.

Boutique type hotel. Very small rooms similar to a motel, but clean. Americans are used to big amenities, that’s not typical in Mexico, so you just have to know that ahead of time. They only give you two bath towels and 1 hand towel. The pools aren’t heated and were very cold. They have a good gym and decent restaurants. Free self serve laundry room on the 1st floor (bring a couple of pods). We booked through Expedia which included breakfast. The staff in the restaurant don’t seem to know what that entails because they confusedly told us there were three meals on the menu that were included, even though several other items were the same exact price. So it didn’t make sense that you could only order from those three or pay out of pocket. You get 1 bike rental included with the room (at Woolis which is on the other side of the plaza where the hotel is located) but they don’t tell you that or where to get the bike. So we ended up figuring it out and telling other guests who didn’t know there was a bike included. This hotel is half way between Tulum center and the beach. We rode the bikes to the beach or rode to town for food. We were also able to ride all the way to the ruins. Taxis are pricey but you can catch “collectivos” which are white vans with small red collectivo lettering on the front to the cenotes. You catch them from a palapa (a hut like umbrella stop) for 35 pesos instead of 300 for taxi. From the airport don’t let salespeople swarm you with overpriced shuttles, get out of the enclosed area and buy an ADO bus ticket. Its a touring type bus, clean and comfortable for the 45 minute ride. It costs about $11.50 and after you buy your ticket at the bus counter, you catch it at Gate 5. From the bus terminal catch a cab to the hotel. You will save a lot of money. On your way home, catch a cab to the bus terminal and either get there early to buy your ticket or go online to buy it from Tulum center to Tulum airport.

This was a perfect hotel for our stay in Tulum. The service was excellent with Sofia and Momo at the reception attentive to all our needs. The rooftop pool and gym are the highlight of the property. The rooms were a little small but they were perfect for us and the hotel's location between the beach and the center made exploring all of Tulum very easy.

The amenities are nice on the surface, but the issues are all over the place. We had the AC in the room running for 2 full days and it managed to cool 2 degrees C from 24 to 22 C, which is still hot. There is no coffee maker or microwave in the room. The fridge barely is 20 deg. C on the inside and food is way overpriced. They give you 12 USD towards breakfast per person but everything on the menu is $15 add coffee and it's $20 per person minimum to eat. Drinks are minimum $12 for a shot of cheap tequila on ice. There are 2 towels per room, no face or hand towel just 2 bath towels so plan on one shower only and no drying your hands of face. Views are of a shelled out concrete building on one side that looks like it should be torn down. The gym also doesn't open till 8 am so don't plan on working out unless your on display with the full glass facing the pool so everyone can watch you.

Rooms are so small you will be shocked. You walk in and turn around and you can touch the shower, refrigerator and bed if you are in the center of the room. Breakfast was good variety, but no refills on coffee? Cancelled second night and moved to another hotel.

We’re sorry that our rooms did not meet your expectations. The Motto by Hilton brand focuses on flexible spaces with a smaller footprint. However, we understand that this setup might not be ideal for all travelers. This is why we introduced our new suites, which are double the size of a regular room. We hope that you consider staying with us again and try one of our suites.

Wouldn't stay here again unless room rate was much lower than what I was charged.

Hotel is located off a main road halfway between Tulum's downtown area and Tulum's beach area. Is a ten minute drive to the beach and 5-10 minute drive to downtown area. Walking/biking takes a bit longer but is doable, but I used a rental car to get around. Walking to downtown isn't bad because there are sidewalks. However the road towards the beach isn't spacious and I'd be nervous to bike or walk that route without getting hit by a car.

Perks: parking (not secured). Rooftop pool bar area is pretty. Hotel has hot water to shower- which isn't always available in lodging in the area.

For a 4 star Hilton not quite worth the price I was charged. Doesn't offer the usual amenities for Hilton honors members that other Hilton chain hotels do.
The beds are small and attached to the wall on two sides and mattresses were not that comfortable. Rooms are not soundproof. Could hear the people in the room next door talking through the walls. Rooms are also quite small/narrow with little storage area. Will need to live out of your suitcase.

When booking, I expected taxes/fees, but there was a lot of additional fees for this place. $20 (USD) is charged each night as a resort fee and they give you $10 credit from that for food there. Multiple other taxes and fees were also charged. I basically paid double for what the original room price was by the time the additional fees were included. Overall it seemed clean and is located in a mall so the surrounding area is developing so it has some nice stores and restaurants with construction all around.

Make note that you only can rent one bike for free from the hotel so if you aren't traveling alone, you'll have to pay to rent another one.

Be careful they don't double charge you by billing your room and have you pay for food/beverages with a card at the time.
Food and drink at the hotel are expensive.

Do not waste your money and pay extra to book a rooftop level room because they blast music at the pool and you can hear it in your room. The rooms are also extremely small for what you’re paying. You’re better off staying elsewhere.

Awful, money-grubbing hotel. Paid for 3 nights here. Hilton is too strict with cancellations and they don’t make exceptions for extenuating circumstances. I booked an extra room for my friend but they were very sick and couldn’t come and I asked the
hotel to please waive cancellation fee and they wouldn’t. I understand their cancellation policy but there were plenty of rooms available so it’s not like I cost them any money and I was already staying there and paying them. Will never stay at a Hilton hotel again.

I will start by saying I am a Lifetime Diamond level with Hilton and have been for over 20 years staying at most of their brands.

This hotel has an identity problem. They try to be a minimalist brand with upscale amenities. The 4th floor pool area/bar/restaurant/gym is nice. The rooms are poorly designed and are below a Motel 6. I am all for a smaller room if designed properly. I am 6’ tall and easily longer than the bed. There is a small bar to hang a few items but no dresser to put clothes. If there are 2 of you sharing the bed one will deal with the desk at the end of the bed. There is nothing to put your suitcases on since you have to live out of them. Please rethink the layout and correct. You can add a closet or shelf on the wall outside the shower rather than the floor. Designed by someone who has never stayed in a hotel. Don’t add a daily fee of $30 then give me $10 credit on drinks or food. Plus you give me a coupon for use after 3:00 pm but checkout is 11:00 am. The manager of the pool deck bar/restaurant would rather argue how to apply the coupon instead of listening to your issue. Add this to a location that is not near the water or the city, about a 1+ mile to either.

Absolutely wouldn’t recommend this location until they make changes.

Let me start by saying im a lifetime diamond member of the Hilton hotel chain and use Hilton properties when ever possible.

Tried to check in at 1 pm was told to comeback after 3pm. At that time I did confirm I booked the 4th floor room with a jungle view. Front desk clerk told me the rigth side has views of roof tops and unfinished hotels, left side was Jungle view. Arrived back at 3;30 was told my room was ready. Was put in room 415 on tight side with view of a hotel roof top and a construction site ( no jungle view).

The room next to us had some issue with their door lock (wouldn't lock) that adjoined our room. They spent several hours working on this door and lock while we were trying to get some rest before dinner. screw guns, hammers, etc..

Went down to get bottles of waters as diamond members usually get 2 free per day. Was told they are out of complementary waters but I could buy 2 bottles from the lobby bistro for 50 pesos each. Next day, still no complementary waters and was told to purchase from the lobby bistro. The day I checked out was the same story. Why wouldn't they just get a case of water from the bistro for diamond members? This is a hilton policy to offer free waters to gold/diamond members.

Was charged a enviro fee for each day. No one told me what is was for or if anything was included. My wife and I rented bicycles while there to get around. When checking out read a internet post that the hotels are supposed to offer free bicycles for the enviro fee to help keep car traffic down. Their were probably 10 bicycles locked in front of our hotel we assumed they were just other rental bikes from other guests.

End of the day, I was left feeling that this hotel has very poor communication and doesn't really seem to care about their guests. They dont really follow Hilton protocols on how to treat guests that have earned status with their brand. I was very dissapointed and will choose a different property next visit.

This is a new hotel well situated for tourists in Tulum. It is a short taxi ride from the beach and walking distance to local restaurants and bars

The hotel facilities are very good with a nice rooftop area with two pools, a bar and well equipped gym (in the fact a very good one for this class of hotel). We also found the staff at both reception and at the restaurant and pool to excellent.

The bedrooms themselves are small (which is ok in itself given the price), and the layout odd. In fact this might be enough to stop us returning as the (fairly small) double bed is set up against one of the walls with a fixed table at the foot. This means that with two people sharing one needs to climb over the other to get in and out or alternatively to get up to make room. This would not be an issue for single occupancy but think carefully if you are. couple. It is a shame really. We also found the area noisy on Saturday night with very loud music from a nearby bar - however that is going to be an issue anywhere nearby.

This hotel is well worth considering if you are visiting Tulum but do take into account my comment about the bedroom layout

There weren't when I was there. It's mainly gravel on all sides near the hotel. Also beware of the local stray dogs. There were a lot. They were friendly but I'm not sure how they'll behave with other animals they are unfamiliar with.
