Selina Tulum Hotel boasts a prime beachfront location that guests frequently celebrate for its stunning beach atmosphere, especially during the less crowded low-season. Service quality varies, with commendations for the staff's friendliness contrasting with reports of unresponsiveness. The lively beachside atmosphere, complete with loud music, pleases many but may disturb those seeking tranquility.
While the beach club and activities are highlights, the value proposition is contentious, as some guests deem the hotel overpriced and suggest amenity enhancements. Room experiences also fluctuate, with comfort levels impacted by cleanliness and noise issues.

So I’m travelling solo so wanted to mix up my hotels I started my trip at Selina It was a great starting point it’s very central and a great location - walking distance from all bars restaurants and directly on the the beach ! Location wise Selina was perfect choice! I read all the reviews before I came and as I was travelling solo I wanted to be in a busier hotel so I was prepared for noise etc So yes on the resident nights the music is loud so if you enjoy your peace and quiet this is not the hotel for you I booked a standard double but got upgraded to a deluxe ocean front room which was lovely For the price this hotel is very reasonable to be central/ on the beach and in a clean and safe hotel. Breakfast is average but there are so many nice spots nearby you can stroll on the beach to for a bite to eat, smoothie or breakfast! There is free yoga and activities ! Beach club is free as part of the hotel and it’s a nice busy vibe with music a nice spot for sunset! The only thing I will mention that I saw on previous reviews is the smell of sewage on arrival I didn’t smell this but after my first day the bathroom really started smelling which isn’t too pleasant! Another thing is on booking.com the pin location for the hotel isn’t entirely correct but if you go on google maps it’ll show you exactly where the hotel is! For a solo traveller and a few nights this hotel was perfect if I came with a partner I’d probably stay somewhere a bit quieter and secluded !

My girlfriend arrived at Selina after having a terrible experience with an incorrectly listed airbnb and finding a great deal for a night using HotelsTonight. We arrived at Selina and were immediately greeted by Mark, who ended becoming our favorite employee of Selina and friend at Tulum. He was super helpful, spoke very good english, and immediately after meeting us gave us his whatsApp number to reach out to him whenever we needed anything. The rooms were niceeeee great beachside view and a powerful AC that was running all day keeping it extremely comfortable and cozy inside from the hot humid air outside. We even had a balcony with 2 chairs and a hammock inside! Overall, great spacious and modern rooms. They even had a common kitchen with 2 fridges although they were understandably very full given everyone in the hotel was sharing them. After staying the first night, we loved it so much we asked the front desk to extend our stay to the next 4 nights and they were more than kind enough to keep the same discounted rate for the single night from hotelsTonight for all 4 nights! that was very kind of them. They also had some weights in the restaurant area to workout in which was an absolute lifesaver given I am an active weightlifter that was previously prepared to not have access to weights this trip. Even after we left Selina and moved to another part of Tulum town in the later half of our trip, we continued to message Mark and he would give us great travel tips for the area or get us in contact with affordable taxis or other services such as the Temazcals in the area. Thanks Mark!

I am a world traveler and I have been around, I have previously stayed more than a few time in different hotels in Tulum and I must say is is a great great option for any kind of budget. My stay here was perfect, my room was huge, very clean and you can't beat the location right on the beach, just steps from all the action on the beach zone. They also have a lot of options for different budgets as Selina is known for so if your budget is low or you like hostels you can choose a shared room or if you like private and ocean view they have it too without leaving out the social experience Selina is known for. Compared to other options around you won't find anything like it for the price and service. The Manager was very nice accommodating and professional together with all the staff that make you feel welcome. In all definitely recommend for sure I will be staying there again next time I am in Tulum.

I stayed for 5 nights at this place that turned out to be a hostal even though their advertisement claims they are a hotel. The description of the rooms as well as the hotel is very misleading. They don’t even have a phone for you to contact them. They sold us a room that turned out to not even have a bathroom, with a full bed that could barely fit in the room and they have one toilet and bathtub to share for every three rooms. If you want your own bathroom they charge you approximately $100 or so per night. The staff doesn’t understand the meaning of service, they didn’t have enough staff to clean rooms and bathrooms. The manager walks around the beach instead of dedicating her time to resolve problems. The restaurant it is also a mess, the service is really bad, they took forever every morning to serve breakfast, or take care of our drinks by the beach. This place is not worth the money, we didn’t have water three days out of five. Even though we payed extra money to upgrade our room, we didn’t even have the basic stuff like hair dryer, and the night stand lamps stopped working. Compared with other hotels in the area I would have stayed somewhere else that was an actual hotel. The internet was super slow, they asked me to pay $15 more if I wanted fast internet to be able to work, even though on their advertisement they claim their internet is fast speed. The pictures on their website as well as on other sites to book are not real, the rooms don’t look as advertised. I also think that if they want to have a concept of “hostal” they should advertise as HOSTAL! We met people that felt the same about their misleading advertising and finding out this place is a hostal and they had to share a bathroom and shower with three other rooms.

Dear 589elye, First of all, thanks for sharing your feedback. Your comments are really valuable for us to keep improving our guest's experience. I would like you to know that there is no phone line in the area, the reason why if any guest would like to contact us we offer our Reservations Central numbers and our emails or WhatsApp numbers. Our property is a Hotel, we have 94 rooms for all market segments: 63 are totally private (Standard rooms, Suites, Lofts,...), then we have Community Dorms, Teepees and Micros, where bathrooms are shared. This means we have products for all tastes and budgets. All our room types are clear on our Website and other travel agencies for our guests to choose the option that suits them the best. Now part of being a Hotel Manager is to supervise the areas, that must have been the reason why you saw me several times walking around the beach. In your particular case, even when our rates were higher due to the high season, in goodwill, we respected the upgrade rates you had seen when making the reservation process. We are taking your service comments into consideration to do our best to improve it, for that, I thank you again. We do have hairdryers, guests only need to ask for them at reception and leave a deposit for us to send them to the room, my apologies if this wasn't informed by front desk. As for the water issues, we experienced some pipeline leaks, the reason why we had to cut the water intermittent but none of them longer than 30min. Regarding the WiFi, our internet speed is consistent most of the time in all the property. Besides that, we also have a Cowork space where only users have a connection to that network: The use of the Cowork area has an additional cost which is really affordable for all. In Selina, we are proud of our concept, where all guests can find their right product based on how they liking and budgets. We are all about connecting and we hope we have the opportunity to reconnect with you in the future. Best regards, isadora

The rooms are OK if I’m being generous. But the toilets are disgusting with mold, really bad smell, saltwater in the showers (!) and toilets that gets blocket all the time. The food is really bad and expensive. The drinks are a joke - double the price from other places, bad and served in boring plastic glasses. We had to ask the staff five days in a row to clean the room since it wasn’t done at 5 PM. At night the whole place gets sealed off with hostile security personel so that the ordinary guests can’t move around on the premises. The whole place fills up with a big obnoxious ”cool” crowd and it turns into a nightclub with extremely loud music playing until 6 AM! The location is good and the beach is beautiful when it’s not full of seaweed. But there are more pleasant and friendly hotels around.

Dear HairyLion, First of all, we would like to thank you for sharing your feedback about your stay. We work on a daily basis in order to improve the service we deliver to our guests. We have taken note of your comments and will take them into consideration in order to keep improving. Regarding the music, during the last days of December and the first two weeks of the year, Tulum is known for hosting Music Festivals. At Selina Tulum we take care of the rest of our guests, ending the beach club parties around 10pm, making an exception on New Year’s Eve, in which the special celebration deserves to reach the first sunbeam of 2020. In terms of security, we have additional Security officers during the season with the only objective of keeping our guests safe. We are sorry that you felt it that way. We would love to have you visit us again, so we can make sure we deliver the amazing experience our valuable guests deserve. Again, our most sincere apologies regarding your experience. Best regards, Isadora

Selinas hotel is located near some very nice venues for nightlife / dining and has a very serene beach view. However, many hotels have the exact same thing and what sets Selina apart from other hotels in the area is their poor customer service and a completely unreasonable priced restaurant. Our private room’s air condition did not work and combined with no window made the room unbearable to sleep. The on-site restaurant offers nice views of the beach but when charging insane prices (Ex: $4 per Can of Soda) it feels like a rip off. No empathy was felt from the front desk (David) nor was any alternatives offered when I politely informed him of our issues. My wife and I decided it was better to check out of the room a day early (without reimbursement) than to have to stay there another night. With so many options to choose from, I don't believe that its worth it to spend your hard earned money here. It also has onsite parking w/ militaryish style security. Think black shirts, with bloused trousers inside of combat boots. Not sure why they are going for this look, especially is such a "progressive" area.

My husband and I enjoyed ourselves at this hostel that is perfectly situated on the beach. We were there from July 7 2021 -July 10th and had amazing weather. It was just so dang hot. Lol. We originally booked a ground level beachfront suite but my husband didn't feel comfortable being on the ground level and we went to the front desk and we accomadated beautifully and had a suite on the 3rd floor with beautiful beach front views and a jacuzzi (The room wasn't listed on Expedia)The room has a fan and AC. The beach was beautiful to look at but not to swim in as there was seaweed that was cleaned up daily by a group of workers. The beach club played house music until 11pm which was fine with my husband and I. The pizza was delish and the free breakfast was nice but just wish they had more options but it was free so hey (We booked on Expedia and breakfast was included in package just tips are highly encouraged which we did)This place is centrally located and walking distance to Raw Love, Taboo, Ziggy's, etc. The staff was accomadating woth whatever we needed. If you want a low key cute Tulum vibe that's affordable I would highly recommend.

I spent a couple of nights at the Selina Tulum because of a business function, and it was a dreadful experience. I was staying in one of their 'best rooms', a Private Room+, priced at $400+ per night. For that price you get what in any other hotel would be called an okay, pretty basic accommodation, with uncomfortable chairs and sofa, and no tv screen. And lots of noise because of music and partying outside. My phone picked up a noise level of 80db at 11:30pm. That equals the noise level of heavy traffic of a power lawn mower. In your room. At almost midnight. The rest of the services are, again, low quality and high price. For instance, they would do your laundry in 24 hours, at the price of a 5 stars hotel, but they do not iron the clothes. As they advertise themselves as a destination for digital nomads, you would think that, at least, the internet connection was flawless. But no. It was sketchy at best, making it very challenging to get anything done, specifically video calls. Still, I have to say that the location is cool and the concept is interesting: it was nice to see so many people working at the Cafè or around the pool during the day. But the delivery is horrible.

We chose to have our entire wedding party/guest list stay at Selina for our wedding in November 2022. Our wedding was at an off site venue but we had our welcome dinner at the restaurant inside the hotel, Mia. With it being my wedding I expected to receive great service, but it didn’t seem to matter, the staff really didn’t seem to care that it was my wedding weekend. We hardly ever had our towels replaced and on my wedding morning I had to request clean towels 3 times and wait over 2 hours for them to arrive. They finally showed up as my glam team was arriving and I had to shower while they waited. We also booked the largest room with a jacuzzi tub, which was inoperable when I tried to use it and had to request maintenance. Hot water is hard to come by in tulum, same with water pressure so while this was definitely lacking, it was something I expected. The front desk staff was usually unhelpful, I’ve stayed at several other tulum hotels where I was treated much better. Service on the beach for drinks and food was incredibly slow and at times never even brought our order. At one point I asked 3 different servers for a bottle of water and an hour later still hadn’t received it. The hotel served its purpose, it was conveniently located, large enough to accommodate our wedding and reasonably priced. But I probably wouldn’t stay here again. There are so many incredible boutique hotels in tulum, with better food and service. However, I do want to highlight Maricel who was our server for breakfast most mornings. He was the absolute best, so friendly and sweet. Definitely made our stay so much better.

We stayed for a couple of nights and as digital nomads starting up we needed a little but more of structure, the internet didn't work in our room (we had to go to the coworking space where they charge. 20USD!) and hotel service is average.
Place is beautiful and right on the beach, pool is small.

Hi Selena, Thank you for the time you took to share your experience regarding your recent stay with us. Our main market is digital nomads therefore we very much appreciate your comments. Normally, the connection from the rooms is good enough for our guests to work on their devices, but if any inconvenience we appreciate our guests reporting it to the front so that we can check our servers, antennas and repeaters and fix the problem immediately, sometimes the poles/antennas get disconnected and it only takes a few minutes to repair. Effectively as you mentioned, for better internet service we offer the co-work option that has twice as fast internet than the rest of the hotel for people that need this quiet, working ambiance and indeed it has an extra charge. We are concerned about the fact you founded our service average, therefore we´d like to get in contact with you to have a better understanding of the opportunity areas we can work to better our service. Sincerely, Selina Tulum
