My friend and I traveled here as a girls getaway. I have been to 7 all inclusives in the past several years along the Riviera Maya.
We stayed in an El Beso swimout suite. We upgraded from the basic room upon check in. Looking back, we wished we hadn't as it didn't really provide anything extra to us that felt like a bonus. The El Beso pool itself was really a party pool and unless you were wanting that, you're steering clear of that pool and the pool bar. The swim out portion of the pool itself is almost always shaded and not warm at all so there is no added value there.
The hotel itself is quite large. There are shuttles that run the length of the resort, and occasionally we would hop on and catch a break.
The food, unfortunately, was no great. We ate at two a la cartes, and had to go to the buffet afterwards as the meals were nearly inedible. The buffet has a decent selection and typically I would find a number of things I did not enjoy but at least a few that I did. I was not expecting the food to be the best I've had, given the price point of the hotel. So if you manage your expectations, it's fine. My other food complaint is that there is no grab N go food anywhere! I was not traveling with my kids this time, however, if I was- this is a deal breaker for me. Even I got tired of having to sit down in a restaurant.
My other issue with our stay was the lack of water available! Our room was stocked daily with 2 or 3 600mL waters. You could not get any additional water bottles anywhere! You had to ask for a cup of water from a bar. Before bed I told the front desk I needed a litre of water - he suggested getting several cups from the bar to carry back to our room. No beuno.
The coffee shop was good however the wait was a solid 30 minutes, if not longer. No specialty coffees were available at the buffet and the drip coffee wasn't great.
Beach was much nicer than I expected. I actually spent most of my time swimming in the ocean- which hasn't been typical of there other locations we've stayed along that coast..
Overall, it was a good vacation given the price point.

Response from Online Manager, Propietario at Ocean Riviera Paradise
Overall the Ocean Riviera Paradise experience with my wife and 5 y/o child was a memorable one and we will look back on it with mostly fond memories but we want to share how it really was for folks who are considering visiting. Also, we're going to give it 3.5 stars for the sake of this review and are rounding it up to 4 because we can't rate with half stars on Trip Advisor.
Allow us to explain why it was 3.5 stars...
The intro to the hotel, upon arrival, was a farce. We were basically given an intro by a dude who purely wanted to up-sell us on our holiday and was trying to upgrade us to Privilege-tier guests instead of the standard all inclusive we'd already paid good money for. This felt very distasteful after such a long air & land journey to arrive in PDC, from North California and he missed various important facts about the hotel, seemingly because he wanted the commission for an up-sell. All things considered, this was a terrible start to our hotel experience and it left a bad taste in our mouths throughout the stay. All this being said - we'd advise ANYone against the Privilege intro tour that these guys try to pitch you in the first few days. (We were also advised through hearsay that these take way longer than the allotted 1.5 hours)
General tours/amenity harassment (incl. spa and water sport deals) between the lobby and the beach pool were also draining. Of course, we get that people are always gonna try and sell you extra tours while on your hols. but it was pretty relentless, even on the hotel grounds! To the point at which, every time we entered the lobby we feared we'd receive another sales pitch, because of the aforementioned intro. Not to mention that the beach peddlers also became a bit of a nuisance (with the hotel seemingly doing little to deter them from hanging inside the boundaries of the hotel's borders and around the beach pool).
The laundry service at the hotel was an absolute scam. I'm sorry, but being charged per item, for what was effectively only two normal-sized loads of washing for our little family, ended up being offered to us at $140 USD, no less!!! Fortunately, we managed to find a laundromat about 1-mile up the road (by a restaurant called Funky Monkey + a 711) that offered a load of/4Kg washing for less than $5 USD - which we were able to conveniently pick up the next day ~ well worth it.
There was no beach, don't let the pics of the hotel beach fool you. While the beach pool itself was splendid, the hotel beach is now non-existent with giant sandbags taking up the space instead and tons of washed up sea weed, making the sea a murky green. As such the cordoned-off area that is ORP's safe swimming area was definitely not the beach experience we were expecting from the pics available on Google, so we felt hugely misinformed on this aspect of the hotel. We do however recommend taking a catamaran tour to Isla Mujeres for that true Caribbean Sea vibe. Note: Peak times for algae/washed-up seaweed is May to October in this part of Mexico, but for whatever reason this didn't impact Isla Mujeres, which was truly beautiful.
The monkey sanctuary was exceedingly disappointing. It's basically only a 10-meter-long viewing platform and there was lots of litter on the jungle floor. Also at the time we visited, there were 0 monkeys to be seen and we were surprised that despite the seemingly hard work that the groundsmen put in, towards the upkeep of the beautiful hotel grounds, in general, there was little to no effort made to make this an actual sanctuary. Of course, from our initial intro, the monkey sanctuary was made out to be a thing of beauty - instead, it was quite frankly a depressing site and an example of human carelessness and litter pollution :(
Moving on, I was due a FedEx delivery for some medication, which became rather urgent during my stay. However, instead of guest services keeping on top of the delivery I had to proactively ask them on 2 separate occasions to actually collect it from security. It felt like a ball was definitely dropped in this scenario and there was seemingly no sense of urgency/inquiry as to why it had been delivered to security but was not passed onto us. I then proceeded to have to wait over 24 hours to pick it up from guest services after demanding for it to be found. (I also notified the front desk of the package's arrival at least 48 hours prior to its scheduled delivery too, to no avail)
The volume/music levels for the majority of evening shows, particularly the fire show outside in the main plaza + the Disney show in the theatre were dangerously high - especially for children.
The room desk/drawer unit was broken. The drawers for this unit were totally dysfunctional in the camp bed part of our junior-style room. (Where we stored our child's toys, etc.) For a 5* hotel one would expect these things to be checked pro-actively by maintenance prior to arrival + despite there being a whole team of folks who took care of the room's facilities, this was overlooked. (In hindsight we should have reported this to reception + changed rooms or indeed drawer units, because this was unacceptable and somewhat dangerous for child's fingers)
Airport transfers ~ we were surprised the hotel didn't offer this proactively or even provide info. about recommendations on how to go about this. Instead, the airport transfer felt like a wild goose chase! After our trip, we discovered it was definitely better to get a taxi (for approximately $1,000 MXN at the time of writing, if your travel provider does not provision it, so why not suggest that ORP?). Alternatively, the on-site TraficTours tourist agency also offers transfers at a similar cost, but again these are not offered proactively anywhere by the hotel, which is disappointing.
AC in the main restaurant buildings left a lot to be desired. These rooms were seemingly too large to have efficient air-con., something we'd hope would be much improved if we were ever to return.
Paddle boarding - while the chap who ran this was great, this session definitely needs improving. There were no signs to suggest where to sign up and who was on the waiting list and at the time of writing there were only 3 paddle boards on offer, for the entire hotel! In the end we only had 20 minutes because we had to pass on the paddle boards to the next set of folks who wanted to do it, which definitely wasn't enough time to enjoy the ride.
-------------
All things considered, our stay certainly wasn't all bad and overall, like we stated at the beginning of this review, we did enjoy our stay at ORP, so it's important we also mention the pro's here too...
Room cleanliness & spaciousness was first-rate and lived up to its 5* rating. (With thanks to the maids and water re-fillers too, who made our room welcoming & spotless on a daily basis). The bathroom was also fantastic with a separate shower and toilet room + dual wash basins; a well thought out design for a little family to use all at once :)
Daisy/Kids Club - The ladies that ran this on a daily basis were outstanding and indeed lived up to the 5* experience one would expect of a hotel like this. We were so grateful to drop off our 5 y/o at kids club every day and were so impressed with how they gracefully embraced the kids who attended. Not to mention their work rate morning, afternoon and night for the general entertainment, on site! Our child also looked forward to going back to Daisy Club every day, while we were there ~ A clear sign that things were working really well <3
Aside from the excessive volume, the theatre shows were outstanding. Including, not least, the Disney show, where all the children even got to meet and be photographed with every character on stage! The shows were always compelling and again, definitely lived up to the 5* experience. We also want to give a special shout-out to the Shining Paradise crew who put on a show every Thursday evening, while we were there and truly went above and beyond with their performance, which was thoroughly entertaining, as were their musical accompaniment choices!
Air-conditioning in both our room (in extension of the ceiling fan) and indeed the lobby was always a welcomed treat, to return to. We just wish it could've been this way in the larger restaurant areas too :(
The scent of the lobby was always inviting & welcoming! I don't know what magic concoction they were using but sales folks aside, we always looked forward to walking through the lobby just for the smell of it, LoL.
Parking at the hotel was free! Thank goodness. Also, it is well worth renting a car while you're there to explore Playa Del Carmen's restaurants (we recommend Ictio & Carboncitos restaurants in downtown PDC). Also don't forget to check out the Cenotes and Mayan temples if you're feeling adventurous. Just make sure you shop around for rentals (outside of the hotel too, to compare rates Vs. convenience of hotel bookings!)
Taxis to and from these places are also relatively cheap as an alternative from time to time instead of renting a car and can be booked from the hotel/front desk ~ so long as you level-set with the drivers beforehand about the journey cost Vs. what the hotel's/locals expected rates are. Note: Above all, please don't let the taxi drivers get the better of you as a tourist, as they often can and will; especially if you don' speak the language!
----------
Finally, here's some constructive feedback/suggested improvements on how we think the hotel can improve as a whole and live up to its 5* reputation...
Add a hotel / beach pier or at least a jetty (if possible). This would be amazing for numerous reasons incl. better access to the actual turquoise sea + skipping the rocks. It would also make the beach a lot more appealing than it is now, in its current state :( Not to mention to help overcome the algae/seaweed issues for the poor staff who have to work hard clearing it all up, every-single-day. Note: A short walk away to the South of the hotel (< 1 KM), along the beach is something just like this setup with a pier and indeed a protected beach. Something which ORP seemingly do little about, when it comes to protecting their own beach unfortunately.
Improving the up selling / returning visitor / Privilege tier debacle. Please don't take advantage of brand new guests, as you did with us. This definitely marred our initial ORP settling in period and could be conducted so much better - even if it was a day or two into the holiday, out of respect, after folks have had a long journey. We might have considered things differently if this had been conducted in a more decent/professional manner, sometime into our holiday. The key take away for us was that instead of giving folks all the important information about the hotel, it felt like we were just another entity to sell to, which was disgraceful.
The standard WiFi, wasn't happening. For a 5* hotel surely it isn't too much to ask to have an optimal wireless mesh experience to sufficiently serve the hotel guests!? Even a cell phone tower that serves the guests outside of the WiFi would be nice but at the Daisy Rooms the WiFi was genuinely awful. (Not to mention that we would definitely have been willing to pay for a secure network/improved Internet experience!)
Drinks - they were just far too sweet. We definitely don't want to demean the overall service experience because the service staff in general were fantastic, but we would definitely have been willing to pay for some premium drinks at the pool bars and add the cost to our room from time to time; incl. better choice wine options and craft beer options too, of course!

In terms of the hotel, the room was great, spacious, always well cleaned and replenished.
Beware of the noise at night in the El Beso section, some vacationers disturbed us a little with the music late (until 5 a.m.)
The hotel is very large, but very well organized which means that you do not feel the number of vacationers and you do not feel cramped in the swimming pools.
Our favorite restaurant remains the Amaranto buffet. And Mike Coffee.

The 4 of us arrived here at was very happy with the external look of the hotel and greeted by the concierge who took our bags into the main lobby area. That area is very large, perfectly air conditioned , smells clean and fresh too. After checking which was very easy our bags were taken to our room whilst we we're given a verbal tour of the hotel and it's facilities. When we got to our room it was clean although needed updating but smelt fusty (damp). The mini bar is ok though sparce compared to other 5 star hotels but when opening the door it fell off, great. The did however fix it very quickly. The service from the housekeeping staff I cannot fault whatsoever, they were brilliant. The hotel itself has quite a good choice of restaurants the ' Sekura ' being my favorite out of them all. The main buffet restaurant is ok but definitely isn't 5 star quality. The bad points about this which definitely need addressing are that the air con is aweful in there in certain parts and with temperatures reaching over 30° most days outside, air conditioning is essential. The staff are very slow in attending to you ie: bringing you drinks etc. They leave tables full of old food from previous customers which causes the wild bird to help themselves to it all, this needs sorting. The food was ok but again definitely not 5 star rated, 4 at the most. We had to move rooms and have to say all the staff that dealt with this due to my wife having an ongoing illness were absolutely brilliant, especially ' Lisandro' who dealt woth us from the start. We were moved from ' Eden' to El Beso and what a difference. They have to sort the broken lift issues out in the Eden and anyone who has mobility issues need to watch out for this. The only issue with these villa poo areas is that all the bars close at 18:00 which for a 5 star all inclusive is very poor indeed. Overall though a decent hotel with an excellent children's water pool if you have little ones. We didn't but saw how good it was whilst walking past this Dailly. The beach is ok but, walking into the sea is very rocky in parts. They have a couple of watersports down there , a decent pool area, toilets , a bar (which again closes at 6pm), and a small restaurant. I don't think we'll be going back here , unless they address the issues which others have complained about too. Overall clean, tidy, decent restaurants but great staff.

I chose a room in the Eden section with balcony and roof terrace with jacuzzi and ocean view. The Jacuzzi is not a spa but a whirlpool bath. It was empty and dirty and only the cold water tap was working. After informing the staff, they finally unblocked the hot water faucet, which eventually flowed outwards. After two hours to fill it, the jets brought out black dirt! I asked for another room which was offered to us on our 3rd day. No need to move our luggage for the remaining 2 days. A piece of our bedroom ceiling fell after a shower. Half the lights were not working, the thermostat could not be adjusted and was stuck at 14 degrees. No cushions on the outside chairs and once obtained they were dirty and full of paint. The sea view is spam unless you choose an upgrade in the beachfront section only a small line of water on the horizon above the trees was visible. It was rather a view of the pool with noisy activities that awaited us. It seems to me that the activities should take place near the beach and not under the rooms of the complex. What about the Ă la carte restaurants that can only be booked in the morning. And beware, they have closed days and hours during the week. There are no snack bars open throughout the day for a simple piece of pizza to bring. Very sad to have paid a surplus.

The hotel facilities are very good, however the reception staff is disastrous, they are incredibly disrespectful, especially the boy who is the manager on his shift. On the day of arrival they gave us some PLASTIC doors (we stayed at El Beso), the guy at the reception put the bracelet loose on me, it could be removed from my hand without breaking it. When I mentioned this at reception the next day they told me that They couldn't do anything. On one excursion the bracelet fell off my hand and they told me I would have to pay $100 for a new bracelet (remember that it is plastic and I had already paid a lot of money for this vacation). There is also a lot of fauna (cats, monkeys and badgers). One day, leaving Mike's with a biscuit in my hand, a badger jumped out and attacked me, taking the food and causing several bleeding wounds on my leg. When I went to the reception to comment on it, they insinuated that I had tried to feed the animal even though there were several witnesses to what happened. I was also told that the hotel is not responsible for the animals that 'only live in the hotel'. I'm talking about there being DOZENS of badgers and they even allow the animals to enter the establishments (many badgers go to the Beso snack bar and even go into the kitchen to eat). The food and drinks also leave a lot to be desired, there is no variety of food at Amaranto and the cocktails are horrible. The waiters and entertainment staff are the only good thing this hotel has. Please save your money or go to another hotel

This place is very beautiful and looks like a paradise. Unfortunately they donât have a standard. Our room was not cleaned everyday and the maids would forget to replace supplies that were required . Had to call guest services every other day beginning with our first day we get back to our room at 5 p.m. and our room was not cleaned. Also we never opened our balcony doors because we had a garden view and weâre worried about bugs and animals coming in as there were many crawling around in our building. Our second last day we get back to our room 10 p.m. and the room was full of mosquitoes. No idea how they got in we had to call to get the room sprayed. We have bites all over so surprised for Mexico for this to happen . This resort is not as clean as it should have been . We purposely picked this resort because of the trolley that would take you to the beach or to the lobby which was suppose to run every 10 min. Sometimes we had to wait more than half hour. Being seniors we didnât want to walk all the way in the terrible heat. We were not Privileged so we didnât expect to be treated like they were but we did expect to have available what we paid for. Also at this resort they really push food and drinks that are not included in the all inclusive. At the Sakura restaurant we were offered wine , as we are not wine drinkers we asked for a beer đș we were very surprised that it came at an extra cost $11.00 US. Made sure that we signed for the extra cost. We were at the same hotel in Punta Cana ocean el faro and was never charged for beer. We will not be returning. Such a beautiful paradise but they donât keep a standard. I want to give thanks to the people that were amazing and work hard Joaquin, Nelly, Luis in the Mexican restaurant these are just a few. We always tipped and it was very appreciated but they didnât expect it. Food was average. Some days better than others . But there was always a variety. The drinks were amazing , they do many colourful drinks and would surprise you if you asked for something different.

My honest review! The resort itself itâs nice, everything can be easily walked without taking the little bus. The kid zone is simple but great, the staff are all so welcoming and fun for the kids there. There is a ton of entertainment- foam parties for adults and kids- the Disney show was our favorite- but they were all good. The performers are actually very talented! The beach is not as bad as everyone in this group made it sound- you can absolutely still swim it- and thereâs plenty of sand for kids to play. If you go to the opposite side of the restaurant thereâs a lil area of chairs before the privilege and thatâs the best place to hang out on the beach. We didnât have privilege, but our friends did. They were able to make our dinner reservations for us- which was great. I was jealous that they didnât have to mess around with towel cards- they had a late night bar open that wasnât the lobby- and they could get food to their rooms. All of that, in my mind makes it worth it to do privilege. If you book a privilege room from the start- not adding it on- thatâs the most affordable way to do it. Donât let them upgrade your room too rooftop- my friends regretted giving up their swim up room at check in cause the front desk person said they were getting upgraded. It was way too hot for them to hangout on the roof. All the rooms are pretty similar except the swim up double suite- not sure what itâs called exactly. But my friend has that one, and itâs super nice! She has two bathrooms and little dinning tables. My only negative comment(s) would be the food. This resort is not for foodies. You can get okay meals everywhere- but nothing here is over the top. Iâm a food snob (I canât help it, I just love good food), I wonât be returning to this resort solely because of the food quality. >>And-the amount of people pushing tours and massages throughout the resort and beach area. Someone is always trying to sell you something, like at breakfast a lady tried selling us bags of coffee at our table. But with that being said, all the staff we met were absolutely amazing, nice genuine people just trying to do their jobs!! If you want a unique cenote experience- we booked Krisles experience on Airbnb. She is her own business, and takes you to private land where you have the place to yourself. We all enjoyed it very much- All the other tours are big companies where youâll be with tons of other people. Overall- I think this resort is great for the cost, this place makes it hard to have a bad time- loads of fun stuff to do all the time. With a great beach area and tons of beautiful pools!

Good resort, with four towers that define the level of experience you want to have: Daisy and Eden for the masses, Privilegie for more affluent club members and El Beso for adults only. All with exclusive and non-inclusive pools and areas. The pools are all very cold water with very few people joining, even at a high temperature. The sea of Caida has clear waters, with gentle waves but with a lot of limestone in its bed, which makes it difficult to have a pleasant swim. The Amaranto international restaurant, where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, is huge and accommodates a good crowd, the meals served are of excellent quality, diversity and very well seasoned. Meals follow a very extended schedule that caters to the entire range of users, from sleepy sleepers to morning owls, as breakfast starts at 6:00 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. Lunch starts at 12:00 p.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m and dinner starts at 6:30 p.m and ends at 10:30 p.m. The resort has themed restaurants that can be booked on the hotel's website, except Sakura (Japanese) which must be reserved on the Amaranto lobby. As demand is high, you have to go to the website from 8:40 a.m. to get a reservation. The steakhouse is an excellent choice. La Lacanda is Italian, also of good quality. Don't expect great things from Sakura as there are four islands and the food is rice with egg, shrimp and chicken and a pyrotechnic show. There is also Blue Moon with signature cuisine for adults only. The others should be without reservations but there are conditions for their use, for example Route 66 which would be a bourgeoisie, you don't go in and sit down. You enter, identify yourself and wait. If you are in a large group and want one of the large tables, you will have to accept an extra fee to be able to enjoy it, or you will have to spread your guests throughout the cfe room. guidance from attendant Marian, not at all kind. Pez Velas on the beach, the food is bad, of little quality and variety and takes a long time, I don't recommend it. Terrazas, Margarida, I couldn't confirm the quality. As the distance from Amaranto to the beach is great, the resort provides electric carts that run the route (beach/lobby/beach) every 10 minutes. As the number of Americans at the hotel is large, staff always expect to be given tips, and this influences the attention given to them. The biggest drawback of this resort is the lack of snacks available at the poolside drinks points, which means you have to dress appropriately when you feel hungry, as there is a dress code in all restaurants to be followed. The attendants are friendly, attentive, and well trained. The rooms were very comfortable and cleaned daily.

The food situation at Ocean Riviera Paradise was a major downfall. There are no actual snack bars; the advertised âsnack barsâ are eat-in only, meaning we had to sit down for every meal. This not only limited our options but also led to long waits. If you want chips and guacamole or just some French fries to snack on by the pool, you wonât get it here. The reservation system was frustrating, as there was only one person managing the reservation desk, resulting in extended lines just to secure a table at one of the on-site restaurants. The actual app made it difficult to book with multiple families. Additionally, the coffee shop lines were always long, and while they offered treats, the selection was limited and the quality disappointing.
Our room was somewhat clean but needed more thorough housekeeping. The bathroom tiles had noticeable grime that could easily be wiped away, indicating a lack of attention to detail.
The pools were clean and well-maintained, providing a pleasant environment for relaxation. However, the need to leave the pool area with our young kids for meals was a significant inconvenience that interrupted our enjoyment.
As we are currently halfway through our trip, I find myself longing to go home, primarily due to the disappointing dining experience. For me, quality food and options are paramount, and regrettably, Ocean Riviera Paradise fell short in that regard. If you prioritize a beautiful beach and decent pool facilities over a quality dining experience, Ocean Riviera Paradise may still hold appeal. However, based on my experience, I cannot recommend this resort, as it failed to deliver a satisfying vacation experience.
