You can't ask for a better location - directly on the beach and adjacent to the shopping district. 10 minute walk to the ferry. The staff was friendly and inviting, the restaurant/bar was convenient and the hotel was clean and felt very safe. There were...More
Beautiful grounds, beautiful rooms, helpful staff, great location. Having pools AND beach access was a huge plus. We were only here three nights but would definitely go back. Next time I would get a room with a balcony!
No matter how many times we have traveled to Ixchel we never get tired of the warm welcome, extraordinary staff and of course Playa Norte. It is our go to destination every winter and we will return again and again. A special shout out to...More
We booked this hotel directly several months in advance, based on location and reviews.
The location did not disappoint: a block from Miguel Hildago, and not a bad walk from the ferry terminal. The beach and the beach service was lovely, and the pool was...More

We have stayed at Ixchel for last 9 years and have never used the "bill to room" option so I cannot answer how it works. However, we are "seniors" and feel uncomfortable with so many opportunities for "mistakes" when it comes to money. We ALWAYS order pesos before we go to Isla and NEVER use credit cards or debit cards. Yes, we arrive with a big bundle of pesos but we store them in the safe in our condo at Ixchel along with passports, credit cards for emergencies, etc and only take out what we need on a daily basis. The Ixchel staff is very vigilant when it comes to valuables left sitting out in your unit. One time my husband left his Kindle sitting on the night stand and the safe door open. When we returned to the condo there was a note on the counter to contact security. The housekeeper had been in the condo to clean and noticed the potential for theft. We were very grateful for their honesty.
We have never done a sport fishing charter, but tried to several years ago. A friend contacted "Captain Tony" (who gets rave reviews) and thought that it was all arranged. We showed up where we were told to and he had left with another group of people for another trip. I have heard that if you show up at the docks that you can find someone to take you out. I would not recommend trying to book it in advance due to our experience.
Transportation from airport to ferry - we have used Cancun Valet for all but our first trip. Never a problem. They are always there at the airport when you arrive and at the ferry dock in Puerto Juarez when they say they will be when you depart. We always ask that they stop at the closest to the airport convenience store so we can purchase some cold cerveza. Many people recommend CARM transfers which began operations after we started using Cancun Valet. We like Cancun Valet because it is a private transfer with only the people in your party thus avoiding other stops. Drivers are courteous & safe, vehicles are new & clean & never a hiccup.

We had a condo but I understand there are standard rooms without balconies. You can use either pool. The pools are smallish. The ocean is gorgeous and the hotel staff sets up your chairs and umbrellas. The hotel is just steps from great restaurants and bars. Take dollar bills to tip the wonderful staff. Have fun!
