I've taken awhile to get to this review... not because it wasn't important but because I wanted to give Casita de Maya the review it deserves.
We stayed for 2 nights at Casita de Maya, after spending 4 nights at one of the 'all-inclusive' resorts on another part of the island. While that first 4 nights was enjoyable I can say without hesitation it was impersonal and commercial by comparison. From the moment we arrived at Casita de Maya we were treated like family. When we pulled up in the taxi both Dan and Daniel were sitting out front with 2 adorable and friendly small dogs waiting to greet us. Even the dogs acted as though they had been missing us for years and were happy we arrived.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The architecture, the colors, the decorative touches... all spot on, working in harmony to provide a sense of mellowness and comfort. Gorgeous plants set off by hardwood louvered doors and the mix of tropical colors made me feel like I was in a Starburst candy wrapper. (that's a good thing). Small spaces made expansive by their openness and layout. Cozy and comfortable. Our room had every creature comfort you could want. Other reviews have listed the room's appointments, as do the photos, so I won't repeat that but I will attest that it was superior in every way to the all-inclusive we stayed at previously.
Dan was always available to help, or simply converse, and was very knowledgeable about the island. We're pretty independent and self-sufficient travelers - from a planning perspective - but Dan provided great advice on what to do, where to go, etc. and we happily took it. He was also quite open and honest about the challenges of running a boutique hotel on Cozumel. Interesting stuff, to be sure.
What can I say about Daniel... the best. He was so authentic and kind. We wanted to kidnap him and bring him home to Minnesota with us. He got real joy out of making us meals. He obviously loves to cook... and to spoil. Breakfast was really nice but he made us an amazing seafood dinner one night also and it was marvelous. We ate it by candlelight and it was one of our trip highlights.
The hotel couldn't be more convenient if you are flying in or out of Cozumel... literally a 5 minute walk into the terminal from the hotel. It's located in a neighborhood of island residents and simply put, that's not real 'touristy'. No problem for me but not everyone's cup of tea. We walked to a restaurant 6 or 7 blocks away (La Perlita) and lots of people smiled, waved and spoke to us during our walk. If you are looking to walk out of your room and onto the beach, Casita de Maya would not be the obvious choice BUT taxis are cheap and plentiful and I would encourage you to think outside the box on this as a deciding factor and give Dan and Daniel a try.
Some examples of the 'above and beyond' service we experienced during our too-short stay at Casita de Maya:
We wanted to rent a car and while there is a car rental place (Blueway Car Rental) right next door to Casita de Maya, it wasn't open. Dan called someone and they came right over and opened up so we could rent a car. The car rental was discounted too, since we were staying at Casita de Maya. When we left early the next morning, at 8 AM, the rental place wasn't open. Daniel told us to leave him the key and the paperwork and he would turn it in for us after we left. Wow.
We planned to go snorkeling at Punta Sur, the Money Bar and a few other spots - using our rental car - and asked Daniel if he had a suggestion for a place to rent snorkeling equipment for the day. We had been renting daily ($10 a day) where we stayed before Casita de Maya but turned that gear in when we left. Daniel did more than give us advice... he produced two very nice sets of snorkeling gear. In fact, the fins were very high quality which was fortunate as Punta Sur was extremely rough that day and those fins probably saved our lives (slight exaggeration for literary effect - but it was "black flag" rough). In another example of superior customer service, he inquired if we had towels (we didn't) and produced a pair of beach towels for us... even taking the time to dig out a pair of matching striped towels so we could be dry AND stylish.
I have traveled extensively, all over the world, since I was 20 (30+ years) and can't remember such willingness to care for customers. Frankly, it's difficult to use the word 'customer' when referring to Casita de Maya because we felt that they took care of us like we were "family". In fact, I might not have been as accommodating to my own family.
Bottom line, whatever we needed, they were happy to provide. Really, actually HAPPY to provide. Dan and Daniel are so good at this they even anticipated many of our needs before we did.
We generally don't return to places we have been... still so much of the world to see and experience... but our 2 days here have made us rethink that. If we do go back to Cozumel, we pray these gentlemen are still doing their thing at Casita de Maya because we will stay nowhere else on Cozumel now.
... lastly, if I used the name of the hotel - Casita de Maya - enough to be annoying, I apologize. I simply LOVE the name and it really fits the attitude of this lovely hotel.

I truly cannot say enough good things about Casita de Maya. The owner, Dan, is a consummate host and goes out of his way to make sure that you will have a pleasant stay on the island. My wife and I stayed here for about 9 days in October of this year. The hotel is just a short walk from the airport terminal and Dan was great at helping us get set up with a rental car. While the hotel is not on a beach, my wife and I found that the best beaches are actually on the other side of the island away from the hotels (around a 20 min drive).
The rooms at Casita de Maya are well thought out and spacious. If there was anything that could possibly want or need, Dan was always there to take care of us.
Dan has a cook, Danielle, who made us wonderful meals every morning and even cooked a delicious lobster dinner for us one night.
Casita de May is a gem worth considering. I've stayed at many expensive hotels all over the world, but I can't think of one that I enjoyed more than Casita de Maya.

Staying at Casita always feels cozy, mainly because the staff are very attentive. It is super clean and the staff are there for anything we need. Daniel is there to prepare some awesome food just like the best panuchos made by his wife! And even learned some Mayan words! We left a leather jacket behind and Dan (the owner) was so awesome he was willing to inquire about the best way to ship it to us =) We had a scooter so the location is not a bother - This is our spot.

well,
it was clean and about 400 yards from the airport.
next, dan is the owner/operator and he is a truly kind and gracious host.
the pool is great, the tips from dan are easy to get and worked great. the beds were firm and clean, the a/c was there but we didn't need it really,
the design is curvy concrete maya style, which is natural and cool.
go to la mission to eat.
breakfast is fruit and yogurt and muffin basket.
get dan to help you rent a car next door, no need scrounging the island like i did, i ended up saving 5 bucks a day.... not worth the headache.
plan to return.

Although I did not actually stay at the hotel I thought our experience with the owner to be worth a note. After spending a few days in Isla Mujeres we thought we would make our way to Cozumel, (been there about times) and fly home out of there instead. Emailed the hotel and he booked a room for us for the Friday night. We made our way to Cozumel and arrived about four hours later. Upon arrival, the owner informed us that the he had received a booking from Expedia which he had to take due to his contract however had booked us at another hotel. He met us at the other hotel, made sure we were checked in and comfortable. Our flight did not leave CZM until 9:30pm the next night. He directed us to a beach for the next day, allowed us to drop off our bags at his hotel in the morning and told us to come back later in the evening when we wanted. We arrived at about 7:00pm, he made a room available so the four of us could shower and freshen up for the flight. Hotel was beautiful and will stay there next time we are in CZM. This guy went out of his way to help us on very, very short notice.

We are so glad we didn't go to a big all inclusive! Casita De Maya was a fabulous place to stay. The rooms are beautiful with all the amenities you could want. The courtyard is a great place to hang out and have a beer after a long day at the beach, and the pool is very refreshing. Dan is a great host; he's lots of fun and has lots of tips about the island - what to do, where to go, etc. A car is handy to have (Smartcar Rental is right next door, and we had no problems with them) but a cab ride into town is only a couple of bucks. Thanks again Dan for an awesome holiday.

Ok, I have never posted anything on trip adviser but after my visit here I could not resist. My wife and I have been to Cozumel a couple times a year for the last 15-17 years. After finally retiring, I decided to actually spend some time on the Internet and find something new and different. I noticed that Casita De Maya was rated one of the top 10 "romantic" hotels by CNN. Not only that, but it kept coming up in trip advisor when I clicked the "romantic" boxes. After reading the reviews, I decided we needed to go there at least one night to see what it was all about. I say one night because we always go for a week with a backpack spend 50.00 a night on hotels and spend our money on diving. After reading about Dan and Daniel, I decided ( call me cheap ) we would go for the 79.00-99.00 price for a night just to give these guys a little business that they deserved (according to the reviews I read). We scootered over there after our 1st day there to check it out. We immediately met Dan and told him we had already checked in elsewhere for our 1st night but would try his hotel the next day. Our intention was to give them business for a night and then move on like we normally do. Well I will let you guys figure out why we stayed the next 5 days in a row and never went anywhere else! We have decided we will stay there from here on out when we go to Cozumel. You guys go figure out why!

When we first arrived at Casita de Maya, we were surprised that it was further from the main part of downtown than we expected. Cozumel is much larger than we had thought and this hotel is definitely off the beaten path. What we discovered as we explored the neighborhood the first day was that it is in the heart of a native Mexican neighborhood. My kids actually spent a lot of their time playing games with the local children and practicing their Spanish which I really loved to watch. This was definitely our kind of place! While inside the hotel, we felt like we were in a tropical paradise. The decorating job is fantastic. The beds are huge and comfortable. The pool is small but clean and refreshing. The hosts are helpful and welcoming (the owner even drove us to a restaurant one night to make sure we knew where we were going!). There is wifi and free calls to the US, something not easy to find. And the island itself was a great place to visit. Too bad we weren't staying longer! A day trip to Chankanaab National Park was a highlight! The only drawback is the need to take taxis to most places(sites and downtown), but the taxis are not too expensive and there are a few restaurants and a couple of small and medium-sized markets within walking distance.

Our stay at Casita de Maya was wonderful. This is definitely a place for the traveler who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main touristy strip. The location is perfect. It is extremely quiet and has a great pool to relax in after a day of adventuring. Dan is a gracious host and can help you with anything you need for your stay. We highly recommend Casita de Maya and will definitely return!!!

My family and I stayed at this wonderful little place in Cozumel. This is one of the best kept secrects in the entire Mexican Carribean. It is quiet, out of the way and close to the airpoirt, yet it is accesible to all areas easlily by taxi or bus. The prices are great and so is the company. A bih thanks to Dan Komorosky for a great vacation.

Many beaches around the island so cant be specific,
but for example San Francisco beach about 20-25 mins
in a cab...if you are wanting just down on the main drag
for shopping and dining (and a few small beaches) then 5 minute
cab ride. You could actually walk but it would be a hike
especially if hot and humid!''
You will not regret staying at Casita de Maya..its an awesome place!
Easy to get around by cab,,and no where closer to cozumel
airport (an easy 6 min walk)!
There are tennis courts at the sports complex on 11th St, and by the baseball field on 65ave. Not many to choose from unfortunately.
Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry with us. Our pool is not heated. It is still quite comfortable until around mis December. Yes we have bottom floor rooms that can accommodate mobility scooters, and have double doors that are plenty wide enough to pass through.
Good morning,
Thank you for your interest in our facility. We do offer a Family Suite option that includes 2 rooms that adjoin to each other. One room has a queen bedroom, and the other had 2 twin beds. A common door separates the two rooms for privacy. The pool is located steps from each room. It's not a deep pool, about 4 1/2 feet deep. The waterfront is about 12 blocks walking distance, and a beautiful beach area is. Short 10 min can ride away.
Regards,
Dan
