Dreams Cozumel has finally almost completed it's construction. Reading other reviews you will see its about 8 months behind schedule, due to obvious world economic conditions.
So where does this put Dream's in comparison to other All Inclusives? The answer is smaller.....much smaller. To be clear staying at this new Dream's gives you access to the Sunscape Resort and Secrets Resort (Adults Only), that are the two resorts connected next door to it. You can walk the tiny sandy "boardwalk" between them, or better yet use the maze of walkways and corridors to gain access to them. Make no mistake, it really is a maze to get between them, but there all multiple legitimate ways to walk between them that do not require getting sandy.
The Dream's resort is new and fresh, everything is clean and well kept in appearance. In contrast when you get to the Secrets Resort, the pool alone needs major repairs. Back to Dreams, the rooms are large, clean, and comfortable, with one exception "HUMIDITY". The room we were in was cleaned to almost perfection, except the clock radio. Despite being less than a year old it was full of mold and mildew spores. The AC works hard to cool down the rooms all day, but the reality is that it does not catch up until night falls. The problem is simple, no bathroom fans (only a window), and the main door has massive gaps around it. They cool down nicely by 9pm every night, but expect to leave it set at 60 degrees until night time (and keep your sun curtains closed).
Oddly the bathroom still had tile marked and mis-marked with marker to align and mount privacy walls and racks. A little rubbing alcohol would go a long way to make them look top notch, instead of the just finished construction look.
The highlight was definitely the restaurants and the food in general. The food was top notch! To be clear, this does not include the outdoor buffet next to the main entrance. That is just an odd location choice driven by cramming another resort in the hotel chain row.
The beach is not really swimmable, you can basically wade in before the sea grass is growing densely on the bottom. Luckily down at Sunscape you can wade out pretty far. Overall, Dreams is a nice quiet hotel, designed for families, but nice enough for couples (especially the food). It may still be one of your best choices in Cozumel. It's definitely a beautiful island with its own persona, different from Playa Del Carmen across the channel.

I was hesitant after reading some negative reviews on here but I must say, if you are adults travelling together then booking Dreams over Secrets is 100% the move.
If you are an adult staying at Dreams you are automatically a Preferred guest and have access to all the restaurants and pools at Secrets as well as sunscape. We met a couple who booked Secrets for double the cost and said the rooms were very old and worn down and they didn’t have access to Dreams or a La carte breakfasts because
they weren’t preferred category at Secrets.

The rooms at Dreams are modern and the buffet restaurant borders the ocean and is a perfect outdoor location. We ate at every restaurant and enjoyed all our meals. It was just my mother and I so we never waited for a table. Larger groups definitely had to but if you sat at the bar the waiters would come find you once your table was ready.
The Italian pizzeria at dreams was by far our fav meal - the pizzas are incredible from a wood burning oven, fresh burrata in our caprese and we always stuck to the house wines which were Merlot and Sauv Blanc/Chardonnay. If you are an extremely picky foodie then spend more money and book at Excellence.
The reason we chose cozumel over Mayan Riviera this year was because of all the seaweed/sargassum but this hotel had beautiful clear water and a coral reef that was filled with colourful fish.
My number one tip is BRING Water shoes !!!! I listened to this tip and it saved my mom and I’s trip in terms of how easily we could enter the water from anywhere.
The breakfast at Oceano is incredible and Zarely and Nicolas Chan always remembered my mom and I and made her feel so special on her birthday, going out of their way to go and pick a floral bouquet as a bday surprise! The staff are incredible and enhanced our stay so much.
Also as a preferred gas, do you have full access to the hydrotherapy circuit at the spa, no one told us this until I asked, but normally does US$35 per person and as a guest of dreams you get one visit per person for free for the week!

The other reviews have mentioned some of what is not working here ( design flaws: extra noisy, slippery surfaces everywhere, no railings on stairs AND flooding) Yes, the rooms are new and spacious but there is not the level of service and attention to detail that we have become accustomed to during our many visits to the all inclusive scene along the Riviera Maya. Our hunch is that the whole industry is having problems with staffing but this new Hyatt conglomerate runs their places in a very corporate way (google their implementation of AI digital algorithms to increase sales) which denies their guests of the very special personal touch of the Mexican people and their beautiful culture. We have never been told so many times, “no”, “I don’t know”, “it’s not allowed “ when we’ve asked for some basic things. Robotic responses that seem to come from the corporate manual. It might be time to take a hiatus from this type of vacation or simply return next time to the resorts which have excelled in the pastwe’ll see but if you plan on coming here make sure to utilize the resources of Secrets down the beach. They have the better restaurants and the gym (there isn’t one on premise at Dreams). Oh, one more thing. The usually customary way which people “claim” a beachfront lounge at all the resorts is extra problematic here. There simply aren’t enough and we had no choice but to sit on 2 broken ones at the adjoining hotel. There are no attendants to accommodate towel or bed requests, not even our request to relocate one of the many unused beds around the pool. “No”, “I don’t know why”, “sorry I can’t help you”!!! are the only answers we received.
P.S. I just called front desk and asked to be connected to one of the restaurants to try and avoid a wait, “sorry, I can’t do that”!! It’s comical

Hello Mr. Jack J Thank you for sharing your valuable opinion with us, we were glad to have you home. We truly regret that we failed your expectations. We have taken notes about the construction item you are suggesting and we are going to be working to add them. We are now paying all our attention to the way our new colleagues who joined us offer the service, Cozumel is well-known for the special personal touch our team members offer. we thank you for mentioning this, and we can assure you that we will be improving this. Regarding the lounge bed situation, we already have more in our beach, and we are going to be implementing a new process to avoid crowded areas on the beach. We are sad to know that these issues dampened your perception of our resort and believe us we understand your comments, give us an opportunity as a new hotel to improve the situations that arise when opening a new hotel and to be able to offer you the vacations and the service you deserve. I remain at your service Eduardo Betancourt

Don’t bother with this place if you enjoy the perks of an all inclusive resort.
Day 1: Even though I had made a modification to my reservation by extending it an extra day, we did not receive a King size bed and weren’t even assured that one would be provided for our stay until the following day. That was resolved, however, after having the confirmation sent with our stay details and room details specifying a King size room, not having what we had asked for after almost 10hrs of travel time was highly disappointing.
Speaking of the modification to our reservation, by extending just one day, my overall cost doubled in price. So please be sure of your dates and room preference before you hit that Reserve button.

Day 2: The pool area runs out of towels extremely fast early in the morning. It seems the objective is to run out early in the morning to grab towels and hood then until you’re ready to use.
For an all inclusive resort, the one pool bar opens late at 11am and closes really early at 7pm.

The entire TVs in this resort will NOT connect to WiFi to slow streaming capabilities nor will they allow any type of screen mirroring to stream from your mobile device. Our TV had 3 channels available: BBC and 2 other random TV channels. Nothing would be done on the TV to fix that. I understand you’re on vacation, but some nights you want to order room service and watch Netflix or whatever streaming service you prefer.

No shampoo was provided in our room until the 5th day after requesting it through Room Service directly. We don’t shampoo daily, but after sun and beach and pool water, you want to rinse all that off your hair.

Day 3: This is the day I decided to write this review because we were promised we would be contacted by Guest Relations and it’s now day 5 with no contact from anyone. The folks at the front desk have no authority to make any amends or answer for the outrageous doubling in cost for a single day extension. I hope someone reads this and finally gets back to me concerning this stay.

Room service has also been lacking in the fact that every time it was ordered an item was missing or an extra item was added. Tonight’s room service wasn’t delivered at all after 4 hours of initial order time.

This might sound like an overinflated negative review, however, with the amount of money that was spent at this place one would expect a much higher elevated experience. Little of what is promised is actually being delivered.

On the plus side, their spa is great and we have booked 3 services through them.

If an all inclusive resort is your objective, don’t bother with this one. Your expectations will not be met.

Also, the workmanship is extremely poor. Grout is subpar, windows missing sealant, paint chipping, showers not draining properly, and not enough towels being replenished during room service.

My husband and I just spent 7 nights at this resort, we thought we were going to have a nice relaxing experience, but unfortunately that was not the case.

In order to get our room cleaned we had to go to the reception area and request it daily 3-4 times on a daily basis, most of the time our room wouldn’t be cleaned until 7:00pm

The bathroom glass door was not fully attached to the wall and almost came crashing down in my head, I had to request 3 times for it to be fixed. Electric plug in the bathroom did not work they said they would send someone to fix it, guys should up at 10:00pm!!!

Restaurant are always closed eve though it says they are open on the app, food quality is mediocre and it lacks quality and diversity. There are periods of time where you can’t find an open restaurant, room service takes about 2 hours for food to be delivered. Food in general does not taste good.

When asked to put tables together waiters will complain in Spanish that it’s too much work.

Anything that you ask in example a hairdryer that works or an extension cord expect about 3 days for them to deliver (if you stay on top of it, otherwise it will never show up).

Overall bad experience, do yourself a favor and spend your money somewhere else.

Dear 2strayers, I'm sincerely sorry to know about the negative experiences you and your husband had during your stay at our resort. We truly aim to provide a relaxing and enjoyable environment for all our guests, and I regret that we fell short of your expectations in many ways. The lapses in housekeeping and maintenance services you described are concerning and certainly not typical of the standards we strive to uphold. Rest assured, I will relay your feedback to the relevant departments so that we can immediately address these issues and prevent them from occurring in the future. The difficulties you experienced with our restaurant operations and food quality are also very disappointing to hear. We constantly aim to offer diverse and high-quality dining options for our guests, and I apologize if we did not meet this goal during your stay. We will reassess our food and beverage operations, taking your feedback into account. Please accept our apologies for any negative interactions you had with our staff. We value the comfort and satisfaction of our guests above all, and any behavior contrary to this principle is unacceptable. We deeply regret that your stay was not as enjoyable as it should have been. Your feedback is extremely valuable as it helps us identify areas of improvement. I hope that you would consider giving us another opportunity to make amends and provide the quality of service we are truly capable of. Kind regards,

Paying for a four star resort but getting the one star experience. Several issues, one after another.

Pool never has any towels, there is a constant wait for hours at a time.

Room service requests for food are accepted but then never delivered, ask what happened to get no reply.

Horrible grout and caulk work in the bathrooms, everything is unfinished and under construction.

Made reservations a year ago for a pool side room with a king size bed, got to the resort and was given a second floor room that is not pool side and two twin beds. Show them my receipt with confirmation of what I made reservations for and the best they could do for me was give me a non pool aide room with a king bed on the fourth floor.

The buffet is gross, the kids keep asking to eat elsewhere because they don’t even like it and I can’t blame them.

Overall not a very good experience, the group I came with including me will not be wasting our money at this establishment again.

Pick a different resort.

Overall, it’s was a nice resort. Typically I don’t do all inclusive, but did because my toddler first trip out the country.Next time I’ll stick to non-inclusive.

Pros
Top shelf liquor
Swim up room and beach outside room (perfect for small children)
Access to Sunscape/secrets
Service
Room cleaned daily
New towels upon request

Cons
Restaurants open on certain days
Room service food was always cold: 45 minutes to and hour and half wait
Food is ok 6/10
The explorers club you have to leave your child with the actual hotel “nanny” I wasn’t comfortable with that. Also thought it was more to offer for the kids.
Scented toilet paper

Hello MrsJ0809, We thank you for sharing with us your comments. we are content knowing that you liked our staff service they are always eager to serve and help. the swim up ocean front room is one of the most beautiful room category in all the resort. Yes is correct we are just opening two restaurants per night but remember that guests have acess to Sunscape and Secrets and also their restaurants coco cafe is opened 24/7 and room service regardless it takes too much time. also we aprecciate your sincerest comments about the explorer's club we are sharing this with the entertainment supervisor in order to bring a truly remarkable and funny experience to the kids! with this said we wish you may return in a renewed opportunity and give us the chance to serve you better as you deserve. best regards.

This place is a facade of beauty, but the substance is terrible. Do not waste your points on this property. The room is spacious, but the finishing is very poor qualify as if they had a student add the finishes for his class.

I am sitting here at their buffet, world market, and tonight is Italian night. I could’t eat the ziti because it tastes like spiced ketchup. The seafood rotini had zero sauce and zero salt. None of the food items were labeled and there were very few choices, This is the worst buffet layout and array with the worst qualify food I have ever encountered at a Hyatt resort.

Dreams will let you know that you can visit the sister properties, but they will not clearly tell you how to get there or give you maps.

I would have been enormously upset had I wasted my points to stay at this resort.

Stay at a different hotel if you’re coming to Cozumel like Playa Azul.

We have been to 7 dreams resorts over the years & have all been exceptional. I’m not one to believe reviews because some people are just have different expectations. That being said this hotel should not bare the name dreams as it is far from… Where to start we checked in March 21st. Check-in took 30 min after check-in met the bellman & he just pointed to us where our room was & said he would meet us there. Well we got lost due to the fact that things are poorly labeled. Finally get to our room & the bellman already had our luggage in our room & waiting for us. We were tired from traveling all day & decide to take showers. Our 8 yr old daughter took one first & our whole bathroom & half of our living area flooded. They had a plug in the curbless shower drain. I removed it thinking it would solve the issue. My wife took a shower next with the same out come… we called the front desk to report the issue & they sent the maintenance worker that looked at it. He told us there’s nothing he could do because the tile floor was sloping to the shower opening & suggested putting towels in the opening so it would help slow the water when showering… We had a swim out beach front room with a freezing cold pool which we tried to use but it was to cold to enjoy.

Now to the service. It was minimal at best 2 hour dinner at the pizza place which they forgot our daughters pizza & food was horrible. The buffet was terrible flies, empty serving trays & poor selection. I could sit here & knit pick this place if I wanted to but I feel most of the poor reviews make up for what I’m leaving out. We were supposed to stay 7 nights instead we stayed 1. Checked in Mar. 21st & checked out the 22nd. We moved to the Cozumel palace & our vacation actually started. We will not be returning to any AMR resort again

I’m not sure why the Cozumel resorts receive such poor reviews. We just completed our stay at Dreams
Cape Cozumel, and had an amazing trip. We decided to stay at Dreams because we had three adults in
the same room, and wanted access to Secrets. We would have been plenty happy booking the Sunscape
resort as we spent plenty of time in their pool, and their resort layout is unlike any other resort we’ve
traveled to. The rooms are more of a villa style and the ocean front rooms are truly right on the ocean to
the point of walking out your door onto the beach. The interior rooms are also quite unique as they
open to a courtyard of jungle greenery and platform walkways throughout the greenery. The secrets
resort was definitely dated, and plenty of spaces need some refreshing – roof top bar and Desires night
club for sure. However, each resorts’ buffet is situated right on the ocean, and this is another feature I
have not experienced at other resorts. Almost every restaurant at these resorts has an ocean front view.
I’ll try to get into some more specifics about Dreams. We did not receive a preferred check-in, but that
helped us get to our room much faster than any other preferred check in I have had at other resorts. We
were in the lowest tier room, but it still had a beautiful view of the ocean. We were told because of
availability we wouldn’t receive an upgrade – oh well, we don’t go on vacation for the room. We
received a beach bag, a bottle of Bacardi, bottle of Merlot and plenty of other treats. Later in the week
we also were delivered a bottle of champagne without requesting it. Sunscreen was replenished daily,
which I have never experienced previously. Staff were extremely friendly, and I want to make a special
note for the service Darvin provided at Olio. It was incredibly busy, and he was running around like a
madman while providing amazing service. Olio had the most incredible set up for sunset dinners, and is
easily the nicest restaurant experience I have had at UVC properties. Annatto was a strange set up, but
still had ocean and sunset views. We don’t love the Asian restaurant options so I wouldn’t recommend
this when I had so many better meals at other restaurants. The pizzeria was also another place I
wouldn’t waste my time. The buffets were always a great option, and you can’t beat the ocean front
views. My favorite meals were the veal from Olio, lamb and sea bass at Bordeaux and the filet at
Oceana. I would say this was the best food I have had
