Grand Park Royal Cozumel receives mixed feedback; its location is a highlight, offering superb snorkeling and scenic views, and many guests enjoy the tranquil yet vibrant atmosphere. While the staff is often commended for their friendliness, some travelers have encountered slow service. Room maintenance seems to be a concern, with climate control and plumbing issues reported, despite the overall cleanliness of the resort.
The amenities, including pools and beach access, are well-liked, but guests have noted some challenges with chair availability and upkeep. The value proposition is questioned by guests, who expect more for their money.

Detailed Reviews
- Overall, a very nice option for a 4* hotel (although it says on its website it is a 5*, Transat considers it a 4*, and so do I).
- The territory is absolutely beautiful with lots of trees and plants. The swimming pool is very nice, and the snorkelling (accessible through a tiny beach) was pretty good. You can borrow snorkelling gear. Bring water shoes as the beach is a mix of sand and tiny bits of seashells. If you want white sand, and no snorkelling, take a hotel in the Southern part of the island instead.
- We were lucky to have a corner room on the 6th floor with a great view on the sea and the port. You can hear pretty much what's going on in the other rooms, though, so cross your fingers to have quiet neighboors.
- Close to activities and to the town (+45 minutes walk - bring lots of water!). Taxis are expensive e
- The room was huge, and cleaned every day.
- The buffet was quite good. Fresh, lots of variety, for all tastes. The pasta is cooked too much and the deserts are so-so, but overall it is good value. The personnel seems rather happy to work there.
- The restaurants are on first come, first served basis - you can sip a cocktail while waiting for your turn. The Italian serves fresh pasta, but it could benefit from an in-residence Italian chef for a while;-) The Mexican one was my favorite. The Pescador on the beach has no waiting list in the evening, and serves good, but with variable recipes (ex: once, the fried cheese was fried on the pan, and we had bread, but the second time is was breaded and fried, and no bread).
- The exchange rate at the reception was absolutely bad; go get your money at the banking machine 200 meters away from the hotel instead.
- We went to only one show as the time was not good for us (8 PM), although it was probably good for most people (lots of families), a karaoke night, and the songs were taken from YouTube:-( Also, there was a problem with the microphones and the karaoke was cancelled. That seemed amateur for us. But we did hear other people saying good things about the other shows.

We stayed 6 nights at the end of April, in a studio room, for 2 adults and 2 children. The size of the room was a bit tight, but it was good in terms of cleanliness and amenities. The 2 double beds were a little small. It had a mini bar.
The hotel is spacious but not huge, which we found very welcoming. Children of 8 and 10 years old could walk freely. The kids club was great for them, and the activities proposed by Leslie, María, Alma, Christian and Juan, from the Fantastic team, were a 10!
The hotel has a small private beach which we loved. You can see colorful fish very close to the beach.
The bathrooms in the common areas could be a little cleaner (on several occasions we found them dirty or out of order.
There is a cafeteria that has various coffees, cakes, ice creams. Edith is one of the people who serves him in the morning and was super friendly.
The right restaurants. We would have liked the dinner times to be with a reservation system and a little later, so we could take better advantage of the night shows that we mostly liked a lot (magic, acrobatics, dance).
Don't miss the excursion to heaven and cielito.
In short, nice hotel, nice beach, nice people. Highly recommended to go with family.

Error for having settled for a view of the garden, if you are assigned room 1011, take into account that you will have one of the worst views offered by the hotel. View of the fence facing the street, 3 cables and 1 transformer, I requested a room change because I asked for a King Size bed and they gave us double beds.
The hotel must do something with the section on lounge chairs in pools and on the beach, in truth they spend hours without using them and worse are these types of people who resort to these bad practices.
The entire food is very greasy, unless you plan to only eat salads and/or hams, cheese. In truth, the grilled vegetables dripped with oil, the steamed vegetables were raw, the attention of certain waiters is clearly better towards foreigners, the simple fact of asking for a spoon or cup of coffee will possibly end in a bad face or you will have to ask for it more than once.
Another point that needs to be greatly improved is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Although due to misuse by guests, it is the hotel's responsibility to ensure their availability and cleanliness. On two occasions I found only one of three toilets available. The other two were closed or out of service, not to mention the bad smell one finds in them or lack of paper.
I hope to find a better experience at one of the other resorts in the chain.

We’re giving the resort 1 star because the average needs to come down to reflect the actual quality of the place. It’s crazy the amount of 5 star reviews on here, in our opinion an accurate rating would be around 3 stars (which reflects how many stars the resort actually is, not a luxury resort).
Our stay got off on the wrong foot when rooms weren’t ready despite it being 1h+ after check in time. Like us, a lot of other guests that were checking in didn’t have rooms and we kept being told to come back in 20 minutes. They have all the booking info on physical papers which creates chaos and poor organization.
It got worse when we went to eat. The food here is absolutely terrible, cold and stale most of the time, on top of no variety or vegetarian options. You can tell the food is made with the lowest quality products possible to cut costs. The luxury restaurants were only open for supper so we tried to eat outside the resort for lunch and dealt with the food for supper. The food at the “luxury restaurants” is barely passable but at least it’s better than what’s served at the buffet. Another issue are the portions, they are tiny, I would call them kid-size portions. One night we were served literally 5 raviolis at the Italian place. If you ask for a second plate they do bring it to you but it’s ridiculous to have to preemptively ask for 2 meals just to be barely full with bad food. Not to mention it was about an hour wait each night to get into these restaurants since you can’t make reservations.
Just like the food, drinks are absolutely terrible too. They water down both the alcohol and the mixers so your drinks barely taste more than water. We also figured out they add sparkling water instead of club soda/lemon mixer to drinks that don’t even call for anything similar in the recipe. We started spelling out exactly what we wanted in our drinks and they were still very watered down but drinkable at least.
Another thing the resort does that clearly shows they’re trying to cut costs are the lack of towels in the room. They give you 3 shower towels when they clean your room but that’s it, no hand towels, no face towels, no shower matt for when you step out of the shower. If yoh want more than the 3 shower towels you have to call every single day to get them to bring some, which the don’t even get right and bring about half the towels you request.
A highlight among the disappointment was the service, other than the bothersome salespeople hanging around everywhere

We have been vacationing here for the last 6 years during the same week. The majority of the people posting negative reviews except Cozumel Palace service at one of the lowest priced ALL Inclusive in Cozumel. Second, Attitude has a lot to do with your service. The GPR has really been stepping it up with the rooms having new comfortable mattresses, linens and pillows. The rooms have new sliding doors that are wind, rain and sound proof. No more hearing the 6am Scuba tank clank. The food in all the restaurants and snack bars is the best it has been in my 6 years of experience. But I do miss the crab cakes in the seafood restaurant and the street tacos in the lazy River pool snack bar. When it rains, you can wait in the coffee shop or the buffet restaurant and enjoy what they have to offer. Rather than stand in the rain while waiting. I'm looking forward to visiting again next year.

Staff was wonderful and that is the nicest thing we can say.
The food was awful. It was often lukewarm even from restaurants. Very cheap quality and flavor fell flat. We chose this resort because it was an Ironman host hotel and we didn’t want to have to walk or taxi far to eat before and after the race. We ended up spending ten dollars each way on taxi rides to get to city center to spend more money to go out to eat because the food was so awful. We tried every restaurant, the buffets, and snack bar. Coffee was good. Fruit and omelette bar at breakfast were good. That was about it. Nacho cheese stained my fingers yellow and the burger patties were something from a bad childhood school lunch. Any pictures of food were misleading and the food looked nothing like the photos.
Also, be wary that the deluxe ocean view often just looks out into the ocean at the cruise ships that come to port everyday. You have a thermostat in the room but we could never get the temperature up or down despite being able to change the thermostat settings.
Some good restaurants in walking distance for local fare like Paprika and Coco Cafe but again- to pay for all inclusive and have to seek out daily food seemed a waste. I would love to receive some money back from that trip for food alone.
Ironman Competitors: there was a mechanic on site the three days leading up to the race. They did have a shuttle to T1 morning of the race. They did open the breakfast buffet at 0430 the morning of the race but again-the quality wasn’t there and at that point it was just trying to get in carbs. Many mechanics available around the IM village though. Would recommend staying near city center and renting a scooter to get around.

Dear Meagan, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're grateful that you took the time to express your thoughts, and we’re pleased to hear that our staff was able to provide you with excellent service. We truly appreciate their efforts, and we will be sure to share your positive comments with them. We are, however, sincerely sorry to hear that our food did not meet your expectations. We understand that the quality and variety of food are extremely important, especially when you’re looking to stay close to the resort. Your experience with lukewarm food and the overall lack of flavor is certainly not the standard we strive for, and we will address this concern with our culinary team to ensure improvements are made. Regarding the room temperature issue, we apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the thermostat. We will have our maintenance team investigate this matter to ensure that it is functioning correctly and providing our guests with the comfort they expect. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will take it into account as we work to enhance our food options for all future guests. Once again, we appreciate your comments, and we sincerely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a much improved experience. Sincerely,

The hotel reception is very pleasant and even though it is on the other side of the avenue, inside the hotel there is a tunnel that overlooks the beach, with a very small space but it almost looks like a natural pool, also with 2 pools at a distance. foot of sea
The buffet food leaves something to be desired, in quantity, variety and quality
They are constantly working on maintenance
The spaces on the beach and the pools separate them from very early

I greatly enjoyed the location of this hotel, it has a small, very quiet beach (which is rare in Cozumel), while having access to great snorkeling. I specially enjoyed the Adults section, with a beatiful infinite pool. The hotel needs to work on security and signalling as people come with loud speakers and even take beds that were previously reserved. Food was unfortunately the less good element of the hotel, and being an all-inclusive it counts as 50-60% of our experience. Food in general was sub-par, and even worse at the specialty restaurants, certainly not comparable to other "Grand Park Royal" hotels (or other hotels in the same price range), both in choice and quality. On the positive side, all the personnel is extremely courteous, and we absolutely loved our room, it was spacious, modern and very clean.

I really enjoyed my family vacation at Grand Park Royal Cozumel, all the hotel staff were very helpful and good attitude at all times, both at the reception and in the restaurants. I really highlight the rooms as they have dispensers of KAAB products in the shower and sinks, very stocked and very good products. (shampoo, shower soap, antibacterial gel, body cream, etc.). The beds and pillows are very rich, the food of the hotel veranda is very good, the buffet veranda has a lot of diversity (rare in all inclusive buffets) and excellent taste in every time of the day, very rich snack modules, specialty restaurants there is a lot of waiting list, but great taste too. As for the evening entertainment inside the hotel, I would have liked it to last more than an hour, but it is still enjoyed. Pools and common areas are clean. Before arriving at the hotel I found several negative reviews but during my stay I had none, we hope to return soon!
The hotel beach is small, and doesn't have much swell for the same, but there are fish below that my daughter enjoyed seeing with snorkeling.

No need to look for a beginner’s tour, when in front of the hotel beach an easy snorkeling option with enough variety of underwater creatures to keep me captivated.
Internet was great. We worked every day over the two weeks and didn’t lose connection. A key item for us.
The overall was good. We read the reviews about bad food, lack of entertainment, etc.
Our stay was good but some tweaking could make this place great.
We are not overindulgent when it comes to eating but lack of dress code or formality is reflected in the food and mannerisms of many guests. Management could use a walk through from a guest perspective for the buffet layout. (No butter by the bread, spoons by beverages not the bowls for breakfast, most items lukewarm, etc.)
No reservations also made it difficult to plan the evening or which theme would be offered. We had Asian only 1 night out of 14 and the last several days of the trip only Italian was offered in the beach restaurant.
Probably due to time of year but we went only to the beach area in early afternoons. Always towels and seats to be had. Didn’t do the adult section, but great bartenders smiling and joking while serving me Xtabentún. We enjoyed Trivia hosted by Edgar by the pool. (Win the money to get prizes at the auction.)
We also don’t participate much in entertainment but the Mexican and Maya shows were very good.
Shout outs to The Ladies in the Sole Cafe were all great and knew our order pretty quickly. Doña Mirna in housekeeping was fantastic. Morning staff in the buffet seated us with a laugh and smile.
We would go again if a better deal came up but for what we spent with Air Canada, it was slightly overpriced.
