This property is fantastic value for the money, it's all about negotiating the rate. I had a double room and even though the hotel needs a coat of paint, the staff keep it clean and are very nice, I looked at many places in Cozumel and nothing came close for the price, it has TV's in the rooms and AC that if you don't use makes the room rate cheaper, the longer you stay the better the deal, I paid a week in advance. It is secure and in a great location minutes walk from the ferry terminal local restaurants shops and bars, it is also 10 minutes walk to a little local beach and Cafe called Cafe Del Mare that's opposite the army barracks

Run down place. Only one bath towel was given for two of us for the first 2 nights. Bed clothes were awful, sheets were stained and blanket was worn out and had holes in it. I wonder what rooms the other guests got that commented that rooms were clean? Room was decent size with two double beds. We were right by reception and it was quite noisy, we asked to be moved to a quieter room, but the receptionist said the hotel was fully booked. We only saw 3 other guests the whole time we stayed there! Location was only good thing about this place. 2 minute walk to the main square and the Playa Del Carmen ferry terminal. Cheap accommodation but no frills!

The hotel is clean, quiet and perfect for what we wanted. The staff were friendly and very helpful too. Our room had 2 double beds, loads of storage, TV, cable, fridge, bathroom, shower and wifi. Even though the hotel is right in the centre of town it was so peaceful. Minutes from the port. And all for just £18 a night. We'd highly recommend this hotel, thanks guys!

I stayed here for 10 days while vacationing in Cozumel in March, 2014. Not like a resort/American hotel. This is an ideal place for those who don't ask for much. It is a family run hotel that couldn't be any closer to the action. Nice area of town. A block from the beach, half a block from the town square. Walking distance of many restaurants/bars/shopping. Very affordable. Nice clean rooms with 2 double beds, nice bathroom, fridge, desk, TV, and wardrobe. Air conditioning optional. Wonderful balconies overlooking the street. If I had to complain about one thing it would be no Wifi access in room, instead had to walk down hall to a common area. I would recommend this place to anyone.

We have stayed at this hotel on several occasions, the last being the first week of March this year. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are clean with air conditioning. We always try to get a balcony room. This is a no frills hotel. Bottled water is available from a cooler at the front desk. Make sure you bring your own shampoo. We like it because it is right on the square close enough to walk to all the shops and the ocean. If you are just looking for a place to shower and sleep, I recommend this hotel.

I agree with the previous review whole-heartedly. I too was traveling with my 13-year-old son, and was looking for downtown San Miguel at a reasonable price. I believe we paid $35 per night, with a discount also because we stayed 7 days. The Plaza was having a Caribbean music festival, so there was excellent live music just 1/2 block from us. Downstairs is a car/scooter rental company. Lots of great restaurants in the immediate vicinity. And the people running the place and working there were very gracious and hospitable.

Cheap place to stay if you like bed bugs and very poor maid service. Put the room on a credit card and they even ripped us off on that. Rooms are in very poor shape. and not very clean. Air and TV did not work. I would rather sleep on the streets in the hood then to stay here. Just ask the neightbors around there what the owners are.

feb 2003 cindy from ,minnesota My husband and I stayed at the El Marquez, The rooms were clean, the staff were ok. But...The mattress on one of the other bed in our room had a very large blood stain on the upper right side. We asked the staff to remove it from our room and get us another one. When we came back to the room and checked the mattress to see if they gave us a new one all they did was turn the mattress over so we could not see the blood.(like some one would sleep on it just becuse they turned it up side down.) Makes you wonder what happend to the previous person that was sleeping on it!!! So we used the other bed and My husband ended up with tiny spider bites all over the back of his neck and back. He thinks from the pillow. We also had to ask for towels because none of our rooms had any. For the most part our stay was ok, The mattress kind of ruined it,but...it did give us quite good stories to tell every one when we got home :-)The hotel was quiet and they did have a security gaurd. We went with my sister, her husband and another couple. Except for the mattress, we all had a good time. i.e. see barbie from minnesota for her review
