Overdue praise! This was 30th year return to Coz and usually stay in homes or condos last 20 years. Decided to change it up this year with first week of 5 at PA. What a great decision. I arrived with an open head injury from the Cleveland airport and was immediately set up to get ER care at San Miguel Clinic by the manager, Yassir. I was given such care and concern by all. Geraldine's twin sister was my doc so I felt extra concern from her and also all waiters who watched out for me. Room was perfect. Meals were the same. We are returning in 2023! This was truly why we love Coz and it's people
This was my first time to Cozumel. The staff at the resort was fantastic and very attentive. My hat goes off to Juan!!! I am glad I visited during a drop in the peak of tourist. It felt so wonderful to be treated like family. I cant wait to come back to this resort.
This is a lovely smaller hotel that has a lot of charm and a personal touch. The staff were kind and proficient and the room was very comfortable and good value (Ocean Front Suite). The location is ideal for those who want a quieter experience of relaxation and a slower tempo. There is a beach club next door, but very little foot traffic traversing the hotel’s beach compared to other places. We stayed for six nights and with the all inclusive package. There was enough variety to the menu that we were not bored of the choices, and it provides a good range from local dishes all the way to American staples. The cocktails were good. The “house reef” was a wonderful place for our three year old to play and snorkel, very protected but with a good variety of fish and even a spotted moray and some young rays who visit the coral growth around the pier.…
This charming hotel has a small feel, not a big resort ambience, and its simplicity is its strength. We came here to snorkel and lay back and get away from it all; this hotel was a great choice for us. Hotel Playa Azul features staff who bend over backwards to serve you, a wonderful included breakfast buffet, a nice dock extending into a turquoise-water snorkeling area where we found stingray, eel, needlefish, and more, an on-beach bar and grill that has yummy Mexican food, and a nice sleep room with ocean view balcony. Also, we got to know several friendly families while there since faces become familiar -- this was a welcome change from the resort experience. The location is about 3 miles from San Miguel downtown, and the taxi costs $5 one way. We wished that the hotel provided bike rentals onsite, but they did refer to moped providers who were willing to bring them to the property. Renting a car required a $400 cash deposit or else $400 billed to your credit card and then (hopefully) refunded after a week -- so we opted not to do that. We went on the very best taxi tour ever with taxi Number 50 that comes right to the hotel, with Nelson Casanova, who is a living, breathing history book. We were fascinated by his monologue on Mayan history, the history of San Gervasio (he could be a tour guide at that site), the influence of the Spaniards including Gonzalo Guerrero, Mayan gods, the customs of the people of Cozumel from ancient times to present, current events, statistics and dates -- we were pleasantly surprised and thrilled because we had simply wanted a ride around the island and boy, were we lucky to get such a bonus when we came across Nelson, who is a history buff and bilingual native of Cozumel. (52) 987 800 77 24. Ladies, bring a magnifying mirror as there is none in the room; you'll need a hand mirror if you want to see the back of your hair. To the hotel, a suggestion: why not add a hot tub to the pool? This would be amazing. Folks: definitely eat at the Lobster House just across the street, where the kids will enjoy the pond with gigantic crabs, all will love the mariachi band, you will love the EXCELLENT lobster and fish and chips -- SO SO GOOD! Also, go to Buccano's a couple blocks south on the same road -- you can walk at night and it is very safe! Or just eat at the hotel restaurant -- they are flexible and the food is great! We appreciated that the hotel staff accommodated our every little request and made valuable recommendations, and the fact that there were no mask Nazis. The COVID antigen test was arranged through the front desk and the nurse comes right to your room, where you get a result immediately, and you get an emailed lab report in a few hours, which you email to the front desk and they print for you to bring to the airport. Cost: $35. Bring a wad of $1 bills and tip these good, hard-working folks. They appreciate it. Even if it is just a dollar. Also, it is nice that you can pay in dollars everywhere. All the guests we came upon during our stay here were American, but we are not sure if that is consistently the case. If you go to Hotel Playa Azul, know that you will not be in the midst of the fray. It's a distance from the hubbub. It's remote. Know if you want that. We did, and we would love to join the loyal repeat customers, some of whom we met, who return here year after year for a wonderful experience in a tropical beach wonderland.…
We just returned from a 6 night stay at Playa Azul and we really enjoyed our stay. We are a family of three with a teenage daughter and we stayed in one of the ocean view suites. The room had a great view of the crystal clear water and it had plenty of room for the three of us. Playa Azul is a fairly small quiet resort which is exactly what we were looking for. The staff and service was top notch - they really took care of us. We did not do the all inclusive package but we did eat and drink plenty while at the resort. I was pleasantly surprised with the food choices and the margaritas were fantastic. There are other places to eat around the resort (i.e. Lobster House) and the town is about a 5 minute cab ride. As many have mentioned the snorkeling in front the resort is fairly good. Plenty of different fish species to see and the water clarity was amazing. The beach club next door does provide wave runner tours but I didn't feel it interrupted our ability to snorkel or enjoy the water. We did do a snorkeling trip with Chac choc tours which I would highly recommend. They take you down to the south side of the island where some of the popular snorkeling spots exist. We also rented a jeep for a day to drive around the island. I would recommend this as well. We stopped for lunch at a place called coconuts which was located on the cliffs right over the beach on the east side. Pretty cool spot. While staying at Playa Azul or in Cozumel, I would highly recommend having dinner at least one night at Buccanos. The food was fantastic, atmosphere was great and service was top notch. One of the better meals I have had in a while. Overall, I would highly recommend Playa Azul and I hope I get a chance to visit again. It was a very relaxing trip with great service, food, snorkeling and plenty to do if you so desire.…
