The only thing that I can say was great about this resort was customer service, especially the two men that greet you. They go way beyond to help!! Also, if one has a problem with something in your room, they send someone to help right away. They don't fill the refrigerator daily, either, but will give you water if you ask. The location of our room was great -- we had Ocean Sky Premium on the 9th Floor. The view was very good. Premium isn't worth paying extra for because there aren't any perks associated with it other than the level you are placed. I'm not normally a negative person, but the resort needs a lot of updating!! The food selection was the same throughout our time there and didn't have a lot of choice like others that I have been to through the years. There is only one specialty restaurant. The food was very good there, but one has to get in line early morning and make a reservation in order to eat there. One would think that if you pay premium rates to stay there, that would be a perk! Same goes for covered lounge chairs. You have to get up early in order to grab one of these, as well, as there aren't a lot provided. The pictures look beautiful and the resort is very pretty, but needs a lot of work and updating! The resort has no entertainment except games. It doesn't have nightly shows like most resorts provide so don't expect entertainment or live shows at night! My sister and I were very disappointed and definitely will not go back to this resort. Over the years, we have stayed at many resorts through out the Caribbean, and this one is definitely at the bottom of my list. I gave 3 stars for customer service and waiters on beach and at pools. I would not recommend staying here!!! …
We had great service from Yasum & Juliene (dining room), Mirna (housekeeping), Ferdinand (bags greeter), & David (bartender) to name a few. I didn't get the names of all the rest of them, thank you to the rest. As we sat near the pool, starting at noon a server came out regularly & got drinks & food we ordered. Yes the room motif was outdated 70's Mexican, there was calcium build up on the overmount sink handles & shower handles, & the shower knob for cold turned the wrong way. But it was always clean & fresh. I wasn't there to sit inside the room all day & fret because it was outdated. We were enjoying snorkling, games, poolside views, & meeting others. We were on the 9th floor & kept our "do not disturb" on until 9 or 10am. We always had clean bath towels & beach towels from the hotel. I suspect many other guests had their "do not disturb" on so late that the cleaning crew gave up getting in there. If you are a foodie & are looking for fine dining, this is not the place for you. This is family style buffet, some Mexican dishes of Chicken, pork, or beef. They also made some American Staples as well. Drinks were flowing also!…
The hotel’s promotional photos look nothing like the room they placed us in. Things were dirty. There was mold everywhere. The bathroom looked like something you might see in a prison movie. Staff told us we (and another couple we traveled with) could upgrade to a new room for $200 more. When we agreed and moved our stuff out, they then told us someone else offered to pay them $1000 for it. They said we could have it if we would pay them (under the table) $1000. We said no and then they put us all in one room with two beds and one bathroom, which is not what we had originally paid for. The pool isn’t being properly maintained, so it’s dirty, too. We decided on day 2 to move to a new hotel, and they tried to charge us an “early checkout” fee because we were leaving the hotel through no fault of their own. Yeah right. Save yourself the hassle of fighting for a relaxing vacation and stay somewhere else.…
Worse experience ever!!!!!. This hotel is DISGUSTING. Our first room had dirty sheets, dirty walls, holes in the ceiling, no ac, and the bathroom looked like a prison bathroom. 2nd room had no ac, dirty sheets again, no running water at one point, and MOLD. When we ask management for a room switch they said they could upgrade us for $200 and later tried to switch it to $1000. The pools were dirty and green. We left the hotel and booked next door with MELIA. This is the worse hotel i have ever been to. DONT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!!!
We booked a Sky Oceanview room and were on the eighth floor. The view was the main reason for booking this hotel as it is right on the beach. The view from the room is amazing! The grounds are kept clean, and rooms are just ok. Yes, there is mold around and the rooms are outdated. If you are a clean freak this is not the hotel for you. Biggest and most disappointing part of the room is that the air conditioning did not keep the room cool and made sleeping very uncomfortable. Had friends on the seventh floor that complained about the air conditioning also. Would be nice if there would be a fridge in the room but they did provide bottled water each day. Beach: small beach with not a lot of palapas. People hogged the loungers, and some left their towels out on the beach all night to reserve spots making it tough to get loungers each day. Our friends called them chair snobs!! It is unfortunate that the resort allows this. Water was very clean with plenty of fish for snorkeling. Would love to see them add some music around the pools during the day. Food: We ate the buffet everyday for all three meals. Food was good but not much of a variety. We did enjoy the soup each day. The hamburger buffet for lunch was delicious. You could order off the menu which gave you some alternatives to the buffet (bacon, parmesan chicken, roasted chicken, steak and fruit bowls were all good). Birds were horrible while eating and could not leave your plate unattended. Silvia was our waitress most days. She was awesome and treated us well! Thank you Silvia for making our trip! We enjoyed seeing you every day. Pros: Beach view, clear water, economical, and Silvia. Cons: Bad air conditioning, and chair snobs! The poor air conditioning may keep us from returning to this hotel. …
This hotel is horrendous. We arrived and upon checking into our room we of course had 2 doubles instead of 1 king, which seems to be a common trend with anyone booking this hotel. Our bathroom was moldy, smelly, and resembled a middle school locker room. The couch in our room was stained terribly and in shambles. There was also 0 Wi-Fi connection. We did get moved to an alternative room, which was not any better. The photos they have posted for their resort are NOT accurate. The AC doesn’t work in many rooms, there’s aren’t towels, our bed didn’t have a blanket and was uncomfortable, and the mold in the bathroom makes it impossible to feel clean. Beware of what you’re paying for and spend the extra money to go elsewhere.
My husband and I stayed for 1 week at El Cozumeleno in March 2023. We chose this hotel for the price, overall good reviews and the ability to snorkel right off the beach. Overall our stay was good. My improvements list below seems long but they are minor and easy fixes to make this resort really great. The hotel has a lot to offer and with a few improvements it could be excellent. Good: The staff at this hotel go above and beyond in every way. Everywhere I looked, they were always working - cleaning, serving customers and doing their best to ensure the customer stay was top notch. Although the beach is smaller and a bit rocky in parts, the water is clear and beautiful compared to some of the other resorts that have tonnes of seaweed. (There was a storm one night and our beach remained seaweed free with blue waters the next day while many neighbouring hotels had seaweed filled waters and beaches.) We snorkeled right off the beach, did a half day dive trip and a snorkel tour all through the hotel (not through our airline). All were very good. Don't believe the airline trying to scare you about various packages. They are just saying that to make you buy their package instead of another cheaper one. We had great experiences all around and never went through the airline packages. The rooms are clean and the view is beautiful if you are on the 4th floor or above. The resort is about 8min or 100 pesos one way to downtown. It is safe and easy to walk around downtown. We rented a scooter (from a company downtown) to go to Punto Sur - highly recommended for a day trip to see their pristine beaches. The roads are pretty good and driving is safe. To improve: Wait times when ordering food is quite long. They are understaffed in this regard. They need more cooks and servers. There is 1 a la carte restaurant and 1 buffet/a la carte restaurant. One evening we ordered at the buffet/a la carte and waited 2 hours to receive our meal. They also can improve the variety of food - maybe adding more seafood choices and improving their pasta selections (the tomato sauce is very sweet because they add tomato paste). Sometimes the food was cold in the buffet area. It can also get repetitive. Adding a nice salad bar with more vegetable options, seed/nut toppings, and varieties of dressings, etc. to make a nice salad would be great. It would also be nice to add oils for dipping the delicious homemade breads and butter instead of margarine. Check in was quite long for us. It took us an hour to check in and our room was not available until 3:30pm although we were able to change and use the facilities before then. This could be improved by having more workers at the front desk to process large groups when they arrive. The wifi is horrible. I would prefer 1 area with excellent wifi instead of horrible wifi throughout the resort. (We struggled to load a single page). It would be even better if they improved the wifi throughout the resort. The resort looks a bit tired. Improvements can be made to the beach area, painting and other areas, fixing the crumbling stairs, etc. (The workers were constantly cleaning and putting in their best effort to keep the resort clean and guests happy but renovations and updating are needed to spruce up the resort.) It would also be nice if they added nightly entertainment, even if it is 1 night a week. There was no animator encouraging guests to participate in games, etc and this would be helpful since the resort does offer a lot - mini golf, bingo, beach volleyball, ping pong, pool, etc. They just need an animator to encourage participation. It would also be nice if they could play music in the pool area and in the restaurants while eating. Finally, the gym is quite run-down with broken equipment. If they could fix the equipment and provide a full set of weights, that would be great.…
Overall, a disappointing resort, although it does have a quiet charm. The pros: a beautiful view, great swimming and snorkeling. Taxi service was really good. Quiet resort, peaceful and relaxing. Large rooms with nice balconies. Some activities on grounds include mini-golf, bags, giant chess, and bingo games. There is a small playground for kids. The bar service was great and the drinks amazing. Nice staff. Resort is close to most adventures. Close to downtown shopping. The cons: Service was extremely slow (in every area: front desk, restaurants, housekeeping). Plan to wait a minimum of 40 minutes to check in or get waited on at dining. The room was spacious and would have been delightful, but the furniture was very old. Bed sagged horribly in the middle. Couch was uncomfortable and stained. No washcloths, Kleenex, or phone. One towel per person for the day. Some days we were left a hand towel at the sink, others we were not. Had to ask for more toilet paper as it wasn’t replenished. No refrigerator. Only one place to eat - menu pretty bland and birds are everywhere in the dining room. My husband got pooped on during a meal. Plan to wear water shoes in the waters (lots of large rocks to bang your toes on). There was often a horrible sewer smell in certain spots on the resort. Overall, it was a peaceful, relaxing stay and we enjoyed our time, but probably wouldn’t stay there again.…
You get what you paid for. Hotel was sub par. Food was awful. Unable to schedule dinner at the restaurant even trying to book at 8am. Forget about getting a chair by the pool or beach. Towels were placed saving the seat. Hotel ran out of mint, guacamole, limes. Hotel staff at the front desk need training on customer service. We asked for a king bed and received 2 full beds. Rooms on the 9th floor are not able to obtain a towel by the pool. We were told that our towels were up in our room. NO towel were there. Front desk girl was not offering a towel and she walked away from us. The gentleman at the desk left his desk and got a towel from the back
This was the worst experience we have ever had at a resort. We went to this resort on a day pass from our cruise and from the moment we came in we were treated like crqp. When we came in the front desk lady didn't like we were on a day pass and she made that known as well as trying to upcharge us for the other half we owed as well as renting the towels. The resort was clean but looked really worn down, the swim up bar had no bar and the drinks were crap. There are no umbrellas at the pool and there was no staff walking around to get drinks etc. We ate the "buffet" which was not good and the staff walking around came up to everyone but us while we ate to get refills etc. We were there less than an hour and when we left the front desk staff didn't even speak to us. The best part of this visit was the guy in the front who flagged down the taxi for us when we left and the taxi drivers. We will not be back and I do not recommend this resort for a day pass, maybe you are treated differently when you stay there but I highly doubt it. …
