A delightful little surprise. Humble but adequate accommodations, a little dated but comfortable. Virtually all rooms have ocean view! The site is compact but accommodates every ones needs for sun or shade, quiet or more action and music, there are two small beaches and you can snorkel the shallow waters right of them and enjoy sighting a small variety of fish and rays. They also clean the beach from the occasional “sargasso”, (sea weed) every day.
The personnel were without exception fabulous, from management, servers and maintenance staff. Fast efficient, all with a smile. They will even serve your drinks on the beach, no lining at the bar!
As for the food, we cannot hesitate to say how delicious and artfully presented the meals were in the dining room. Outstanding! We had shrimps, salmon, filet mignon, and chicken, all perfectly seasoned and cooked. The only exception was the pork tenderloin which was not tender. The wine is even very good for this level of hotel.
You have to reserve every day on the day, between 8:00am and 4:00pm for the A la carte dinner, served every half hour from 5:00 to 9:30. You can go every day if there is room and it’s well worth getting up early for one of the limited tables. The menu changes every second day.
As for the buffet, it is the most basic and limited we have encountered but if you are not too limited in your choices and preferences, there is always something we’ll prepared and tasty to enjoy... all day, without interruption! Breakfast 7 to 11, lunch 11 to 5 pm, dinner 6 pm to 10pm, with an area with burgers and hotdogs and yummy guacamole non stop! There is even a microwave to warm up tour plate should you like it warmer! Morning coffee week but there is a self serve machine for various types during the day.
For our quick very affordable break from our two month condo vacation in Akumal, it exceeded our expectations. With only about 254 rooms it was a relaxing escape just 10 minutes by car from the town of San Miguel and the ferry to Playa del Carmen.
You can socialise in the very echoey/ noisy lobby with Wifi or retreat close to the two pools where Wifi is still surprisingly good. Aside from movie night Saturday, we didn’t witness any other kind of entertainment which was perfect for us.

So if an older facility is not a deterrent for you, we recommend without hesitation.

My boyfriend and I just came back from our week away and it was great value for our money. We were on the south side garden view room which is in the renovated section and I had no complaints but wasn't anything extravagant. It was on the first floor but we still had a clear view of the ocean. AC and beds were good. **If you want your towels changed you have to put them in the shower and put the plastic card with their environmental friendly statement on your bed as they are trying to be more environmentally friendly. Some people we talked to did not know/ read the card and were upset that they were not getting their sheets and towels changed. We ate at the a la carte every night and it was great and had no complaints and would highly recommend. You do have to get up around 7:30 for a reservation but we wanted to make sure we got up early anyways (you can nap on the beach later!). The breakfast in the restaurant was amazing as well and lunch at the buffet was good but you can also ask for the menu and they were more than happy to do that too. Drink of the days were great. Pools were cold. Snorkeling was amazing and water was crystal clear. Staff was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcomed. There is not too much night life so if you're coming to party this is not the place. The down town by the cruise port is beautiful and just 200 pesos (round trip). I did not feel unsafe at all throughout my time downtown. We had a great time, played mini putting, tennis, ping pong and life size chess (lots of things to entertain yourself). We really enjoyed our time here. This is not a boujie hotel but it is great for what you pay for! It was an awesome vacation.

Certainly a beautiful property with all the amenities you'd expect from a Resort Hotel but a few things it just really bothered me.

First off, the hotel uses a laundry service that uses unreasonable amounts of perfumed laundry detergent and fabric softener good I couldn't even stay in the room 3 minutes without my skin starting to crawl. I had all the blankets and sheath removed and slept all and comforters. I did this because I know comforters are really washed but two or three times a year. So yeah, yuck. But it was better than wasting thousands of dollars on non-refundable Hotel packages

The food wasn't bad but it what really bothered me was have they lied about what kind of fish they were using. One waiter would say that it was sea bass, one waiter would say that it was grouper and so on. When the truth of the matter is it was all that farm-raised Vietnamese swai basa junk. You know, the stuff that tastes like eggs scrambled in mud. Yeah it was attractive on the plate but, that ain't everything. The Mexican Fair wasn't particularly good considering what usually available. Most popular buffet was the American breakfast buffet paid it had your typical American Bread's fruits oh, cold pancakes and waffles. For the pricey places are charging the food on to be spectacular or at least decent.

There were lots of water sports available front of the hotel. I chose snorkeling which wasn't good at all but had the token overabundance of surgeonfish and occasional barracuda. Completely uninteresting Sandy Bottom.

If I would go back to this area I would probably stay at Playa Del Carmen. At least it has more of an authentic local feel and better choices in restaurants. The beach is far prettier as well albeit
rougher surf not appropriate for snorkeling

We visited this resort over the Christmas week. We arrived on December 21 with a very slow and painful check in. We required a different room and they were very accommodating.
The problem with this Resort is that you are told not to even brush your teeth with the water but yet you are only supplied one 500 ml bottle of water per ROOM. Regardless of your reasoning you will not be given any more water. You are expected to buy it.
My second issue with this Resort is that there is supposed to be wifi in the lobby. The wifi was so bad you couldn’t even load the weather
Food in the a la carte was excellent. The buffet got kind of old since there is only one.
The staff are exceptionally friendly and hard working and deserve your tips.
No nightly entertainment, so nothing to do after dinner
Beautiful beach for long walks.

This was my 3rd visit to El Cozumeleno, 5th to the island. I would be hard pressed to find a reason to stay anywhere else. Roberto, Angel, Gabriel, Santiago, Carlos, Sandy, Julio, Frederico and Ana made me feel like I was amongst friends and family. Except for the lack of wash cloths, everything was great. The food, the beach, and the room were great. You will be well taken care of there. They don't just see you as tourist, but as family. I know there are people to visit twice a year and have done it for years because of the way they are treated.
The resort is small enough that you aren't hiking to go to other parts of the resort. I also think the value for the buck is great. You eat and drink real well and the service is awesome! Also, its a relaxing place. No loud music and lights into the late night, everything pretty much wraps up at 10pm and starts at 7 am.

Our trip to El Cozumeleno was a great trip a lot to see on the island with some really great excursions. The hotel was so so.. the room were not greatly cleaned they definitely do not look as nice as the pictures.. the water smells bad you can’t throw toilet paper in the toilet but that’s on the whole island. The beach is very small and mostly shells and rocks.. snorkeling in front of the resort has a lot of coral they say one of the best around the island. The staff there were super great. If you go you have to scout out roger and mariann for activity people so fun and great people made the time worth it down there.. they work with very little not much entertainment down at the resort. Food and drinks are cut off at 10 then You have to leave the resort with feels very safe people always walking around. For the pool at the night resort it was always very cold and the swim up bar you could hardly sit there and the smell of sulfur was horrible and the seats by the bar were kind gross and full of ants all the time. If you are sitting around the pool or On the sand bar you get full drink service and food service they don’t tell you about the pool side food menu have to know to ask. If you are looking for the best waiters make sure you sit in the spots that Jeśus is bartending and where Miguel and Santiago are waiting you will never go thirsty. The food was pretty much the same everyday and the food in the fancy restaurant was not great spending 7 days there the food gets old, definitely recommend going off the resort a few times to each.
I would say not a great resort for kids not much to do. Front desk staff and the guy that helps you with taxis were all very accommodating I would rate the hotel 3/5 all together.

Just returned with my family, had a good time and enjoyed my stay at this resort. The resort is kept very clean on the inside and outside. Staff were friendly and helpful. Customer service is great here. Views of the ocean from the rooms were stunning.
Buffet food is average at best but I did not mind it as I could always find a few things to enjoy.
The great thing is that they allow the one al-a carte restaurant to be book every night if a customer wishes, as long as booked on the morning of each day, and it was fantastic! Great quality of food and options of tasty dishes to choose from the menu in a fine dining style restaurant environment with superb attentive service from the servers. If you are picky about your quality of food, I would recommend booking the al-a carte each day as long as you don't mind the 30 minute wait for your food.

Here is my main criticism about this resort. There are 2 joined buildings and the rooms on one side is old and outdated and the other side (South building) is newer and more upgraded. I was initially placed in a room in the old building which was absolutely huge but horribly outdated and in need of upgrades. Cracks and gaps everywhere, encountered some bugs, balcony door would barely open and close properly, water pressure and plumbing just horrible, and it all just felt old, dirty and gross. Staying here the first night was a disappointing experience and we had heard that the rooms in other building were newer and nicer. Next morning we complained to the Manager who very kindly moved us to another room in the south tower. The difference was vast. This room was more updated and felt like a normal nice room you'd expect and I had no complaints or disappointments with my room from hereafter. It turned my experience completely around and I am thankful for the Manager's understanding and accommodation. But I do feel sorry for anyone who by bad luck gets placed in the old rooms which is just not fair. Every guest deserves a room of the same quality as the rooms in the south building. I know this is an expensive project, but its urgently necessary otherwise it will negatively impact this resorts continued reputation from complaints about the outdated rooms.

I am thankful for all the wonderful staff at this resort who work really hard non-stop and deserve our respect and tips. I enjoyed my time here and I would like to come back to this resort again but my only concern is that I will be placed in an old room as there is no guarantee that they can put you in the south building and this alone makes me apprehensive about booking here again.

There is no 0 star or that’s what I would rate this. Not trying to be rude but if you gave this Hotel a 2 star are above either your on a budget or it was your first All Inclusive trip. I travel a lot out of the Country and this was the worst I’ve ever gone too. The food is just plain nasty. They sale water ate the front desk for $20.00 a case. You get 2 bottles a day in your room for the coffee pot you brought with you and to brush your teeth. Our A/C never cooled the room off. We reported it immediately and nothing was ever done. We went to town to buy a fan for our room because they didn’t have any to offer. The water came out brown in our sink, you could see daylight through the front door of our room. There is absolutely no entertainment all they had was a DVD player a couple nights that were were there on a movie projector playing cartoons on the wall. Swim up bar was closed except the last few days of our stay. Wait staff gave you dirty looks when you called them over for a drink or food. Oscar is the only saving grace to the WHOLE resort. When you could get him he was an excellent waiter. We ate out diner ever day because the selection their was horrible. When we did see something we would eat it was cold. We went with a group of 12 and so far three rooms were overcharged on our credit cards we left our $35.00 on for taxes. I was overcharged $260.00. I will be disputing that. I bough chapstick from the gift shop for $5.00 and it was hard as a brick. Five days later ever in the sun it’s still hard as a brick. Room service closes at 9 pm. There wasn’t anything I would have ate on it any way. This hotel was built in 1971 and has not been renovated since. It’s comparable to the oldest Motel 6 you ever had stayed in. We upgraded to a room with a refrigerator and it didn’t work they did replace it so with the other one we got we drank room temperature drinks. Their milk is brown so there is no way I would have drank it. Beware of the birds you can be eating your food and they dive down and snatch it off your plates. Their are no fans anywhere at this resort. The best air you are going to get is when you get off of the elevator their is a good breeze

This resort has a wonderful staff dedicated to serving their guests. It is right on the beach and has great views. However, our room was pretty small and didn't have drawers for putting clothes away. The room also only had 2 outlets in the entire room that were taken by lamps. This made it very difficult to keep our devices charged. The food was below average at best. I have been to dozens of bargain priced all inclusives in Mexico so I have realistic expectations for buffet food but the lack of taste and variety was was the worst I have experienced. I understand that when travelling in low season that this might be necessary but we were there for a week over Christmas break and the resort was full. We are returning to Cozumel in March and though we would love to spend more time with the staff there, we will be staying elsewhere. I am not a picky eater or a foody but it was bad enough to be a deal breaker. I do want to shout out some of the amazing staff members that are the bright spot of this resort. Carlos and Rodrigo in the buffet restaurant, Durbel serving in the lobby bar, Ana at the front desk and Luisa cooking the omlettes at breakfast made our stay as enjoyable as it could have been. I hope the management of this resort gets the food figured out because this would otherwise be a place that we would return to.

This is a very nice place to stay, the staff is very accommodating! The rooms are large and the views are beautiful. I would suggest to take water shoes as there is coral on this side of the island. Clips to keep your towel on your chair are also a good idea. The airport is like a 5 minute taxi ride which is approximately 200 pesos give or take a couple so it won’t take you long to get there or back when you leave. The wait staff will make you any kind of drink 🍹 you can think of. Be sure to make your dinner reservations by 7:30am for the night you want to eat at the only restaurant they have. They will tell you 8am. It you need to be in line by 7:30. They also have a buffet you can eat at or order a la carte. There are several nice pools and pretty cool activities each night. Overall I would say this is the best bang for your buck to stay in Cozumel. Adios amigos!
