I booked a three day adventure at Camp Cabarita as a surprise for my husband's 40th birthday. We hadn't been away together in 11 years, and it was perfect! We went for a swim in the river the first day, up Mayfield Falls the second, to 7 Mile beach the third, and to the Ginger Works Cave the last day before leaving. I think this is a pretty typical schedule for those staying three days. Things move on island time, which was perfect for a relaxing vacation. Let go, relax and Desmond, Buddy, and DuBlack will decide everything for you: what you eat, where you go and at what time (they will ask if you have preferences, but for us, part of the fun was letting go, not having to make any decisions, and fully relaxing). We stayed in the Jungalo Treetops room, which was clean, comfortable, and had a bathroom. FYI the water in the outside showers is not heated. Which is perfect during the day, but chilly once the sun has set. We didn't use the expeditor service at the airport and didn't need it. Our plane landed at an off-peak time. Check out when your plane lands, and if there are a lot of other international flights landing at the same time. When we flew out, the airport was super busy, with lots of lines. Make sure to get there in plenty of time. Also, DuBlack is an amazing cook. I loved eating fresh, local food at every meal. And supporting the community that helped built the camp and helps give the tour to the falls and cave.…
I booked this trip as a surprise for my husband's birthday! From the very beginning, Ryan helped me with arranging the itinerary, plan transport, and some surprises throughout the trip. The location of this camp is picturesque and very secluded from the busseling groups of Jamican tourist. The team at Camp Cabarita made sure we did at least one activity a day, my favorite trip was wading up the river to the "washing machine". We also visited the 7 mile beach in Negril and Buddy took us to Ricks Cafe to listen to live music and watch the divers. The food at Camp was amazing, DuBlack and Desmond really know how to make authentic Jamaican cuisine. I didn't have one meal I didn't 100% love while i was there. All the food is full of flavor and very wholesome, make sure to request their famous Jerk Chicken. My husband's favorite part was the fresh cocounts around Camp, i think he had one everyday! I can't say enough great things about this place. I highly recommend this Camp to anyone with an adventurous spirit who would like to visit "the real Jamaica". My husband and i finished our trip at a resort in Montego Bay, and we can tell you we were bored and missed Camp by the evening we arrived. Thank you for making us feel at home and making us part of the Camp Cabarita family. We will be back, i can't imagine visiting Jamaica and not coming back to visit. Side Note- not having to do with Camp. If you are planning to use the expediting service at the airport, DON'T. Maybe it was just when we arrived but the normal line for immigration was shorter than the line we were placed in for the expediter. I would say just take your chances and wait. It was not worth $25 pp.…
So my girlfriend and I hadn't taken a vacation in more than 5 years, and had limited time this year to book it. Hear about Camp Cabarita from a friend, and decided on it based on the website. From the get-go, Ryan (the owner) was extremely helpful. Set us up with airport gateside pickup. Then Buddy, the on-site manager, picked us up. Camp is located up in the mountains, and you would be hard pressed to find a better place. The bar/restaurant is US-standard, even though you are about as remote as you can get. Rooms are beautiful, double-screened cabanas. All the food is grow - literally - right there at camp. The back property line is a river as warm as bathwater and crystal clear. Dwight and James are two knowledgeable old gentleman that take care of everything from giving you knowledge of local herbs to cooking your meals to serving you drinks. The remote, peacefulness of Camp is one of the things that is most unique. Your vacation will take a more introspective, contemplative turn when you are not at the river or walking the backroads of Jamaica. We are already planning to come back.…
After staying in a big resort, it was really great to get away and experience the real Jamaica. Buddy picked us up at the resort and gave us a wonderful tour, including stopping at a local beach and market. Camp Cabarita with its river and waterfall make this serene place Heaven. This is nature at its finest. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch, specifically prepared for us. Buddy made Jerk chicken with Jasmine rice and beans. Absolutely wonderful. Their sauces are homemade and have a great kick to them. The bar area and grotto shower added to the natural surroundings. This "up and coming" resort is a definite return for us.
We had a great day and where very pleased with the flexibility to adjust to our time. Buddy was friendly and always there, the place is off the beaten track and inviting, to relax and the walk up to Mayfield Falls with James was a great and interesting learning experience to learn about the history, the plants, the trees....the falls don’t disappoint and a great home cooked tasty lunch is waiting for you. We wiould love to go back and maybe stay the night too... take the chance and enjoy it ! We surely did!
