The staff at Glen Clova Hotel The staff at Glen Clova Hotel answered the fire exit door to two Hill Climbers on Saturday night who had gotten lost in the dark after a long journey back from Driesh. Due to loss of phone signal, we found ourselves over 20+ miles from our car, and the weather wasn’t on our side. After hours of walking, the sight of the Glen Clova Hotel lights in the distance guided us home. The staff took us in despite the dirt and mud from the adventure we had taken. After a friendly welcome, my friend and I found ourselves eating a cheeseburger and fish & chips with a taxi on its way. The end of our journey was made easier by; Ellice, Beanie, Charlotte & Angus… and not to mention our driver who travelled a fair distance at such a late hour to help. We only wish we could repay the kindness received from everyone when it looked like we would have to continue ourselves, thankfully we were not alone. were generiou

This place is admittedly in a beautiful rural spot of Scotland, however, there are lots of equally lovely spots in Scotland and if this place doesn’t buck its ideas up the location alone will not wash for too long. This was our 3rd visit and sadly our last (we even cancelled our next paid for holiday here over Xmas based on this experience). We visited in May and we’re forgiving of certain things not being up to standard due to the whole worlds return from lock down etc. service was a struggle, and the only thing we managed to get served on that trip was a bowl of chips. It wasn’t enough to put us off and I echo most establishments were adapting around this time. Fast forward to October and the first thing we notice is service limited to residents and guests, expect that wasn’t true, even as a guest we couldn’t get a table until our last night, but poor considering there isn’t really much else to do on an evening so it’s nice to be able to visit the hotel and pub. I went to speak with someone to ask for some help with this or at least offer us a table so we could have a drink, accepting that food was now off limits for a few days. We were told we can try but there are no tables. Again after some negotiation and explaining we had encountered the same issues in May I felt this was not up to the standards expected when paying a thousand pounds nearly to stay here for the week! We were then offered the marquee outside in October. We sat and watched all of the shooters (who the owner seemed friendly with) for the outside looking in like 2nd class citizens! If this wasn’t enough our turn finally came to have an evening meal… in their defence they pulled it forward 1 night for us. We sat down, excited to try their food properly for the first time and we had 2 dogs (dog friendly apparently). Both dogs are rescue and one is only 10 months old so excitable but not aggressive etc. we had just ordered desert (so 3 courses in total which the steak pie was wonderful but everything else was poor- I had lime and chilli chicken) … anyway… a lovely waitress had met our dog earlier that evening and taken a liking to him. She again came over and our pup was keen to see her and get a fuss, she was giving him a fuss when the owner walked in, without a mask and half cut by the sounds, leans over our table and says to US “not having that keep him under control” in total disbelief I asked my partner if he was joking, I genuinely didn’t know how to take it, no one has ever said this to us before and we too live in the country with dog friendly pubs. He then appeared again to confirm he was not joking and that he wasn’t arguing about it. I was flabbergasted and really upset. I left the desert and returned to our cabin cancelling our Xmas trip on the way out. I waited before leaving a review for some acknowledgement or apology (given he walked in made an assumption and blamed his paying guests) but nope , nothing and didn’t even care we had cancelled. The accommodation is ok, great facilities, lovely location, clean but getting dated and tired now. The service of a few people (Iona and I think one of the managers, talks to her hens, was great and cannot fault), the culture and overall service and experience over 2 visits this year is enough to confirm it’s really not worth the money and the worst things is it’s the service from the top which has caused it. Will definitely be visiting Scotland again but will pay to stay somewhere the makes you feel welcome. The whole slogan of ‘leave as friends’ is nonsense.

We stayed the weekend of 24 September for 3 nights, my wife and I had a steading room and the rest of the family had the 3 bedroom lodge with sauna and hot tub with super views of the surrounding valley. We could not fault the accommodation, steading room was excellent and the lodge was well equipped and had a starter pack, we asked for two extra chairs and extra cutlery as there was eight of us eating in the lodge and this was done without a fuss, excellent service. We had booked a table for 8 people in the climbers bar for our 3 night stay, we had food in the Bar on the Friday and Sunday of our stay and had drinks only on the Saturday evening as we were eating in the lodge. The food was excellent, they even served us chicken each night for the two dogs at a £1 per dog per night, brilliant. The Staff were very friendly and efficient, Service was first class, nothing was too much bother for any of the staff that serviced our table. We stayed in the Steading when we visited last year, this was the first time we had booked a lodge as there was 8 of us this visit, when we visit again next year we will book Brandyburn House as it can cater for us all with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms which is located just across from the hotel.

We stayed in the steadng, room was modern and had everything we needed. We had a 3 course evening meal and breakfast and the food couldn’t be faulted. There was 11 of us staying at hotel and we had few drinks in afternoon followed by a lovely meal and drinks at night. The service at the meal was excellent. We then had a few drinks in the bar and we had been told when booking that bar was open till midnight. The barmaid shouted last orders before 11! She refused to serve any more drink as she said it wasn’t busy enough. Her attitude was appalling. We were there for a special occasion and this was a bad end to a lovely day and night.

This is the second time I have stayed here and I again loved it. Fantastic location, comfy clean rooms, excellent food and staff were great. There is so much to do in the vicinity, Loch Brandy walk starts from the hotel and Corrie Fee and a 2 easy munro's can be accessed from the nearby Glen Doll car park. We will definitely return.
