This was our first trip away without our young kids. We love the Bahamas and were looking for quiet, super chill and great food. The Island House couldn’t have been more perfect and exceeded all of our expectations. The resort only has 30 rooms so even when at capacity, it is quiet and tranquil. Our first day we longed by the pool (which is beautiful - see picture) and throughout the day there were only 4-6 other people at the pool. The second day we took the shuttle to the private beach. It is located at a private beach club that has some great history and ambiance. The beach was beyond stunning and reminded us why we love the Bahamas so much. The private beach is quite large and again, there were maybe 10 people in the beach. There is a little bar and food truck at the beach that serves cocktails, beers and simple food. Perfect for what you need. There are 3 main restaurants at the Island House and a great little cocktail bar. All excellent. The rooms are stunning. Spacious, elegant and quiet. There is a really cool movie theatre on the property that shows new movies. The seating consists of lounge chairs and bean bag chairs. It was a great thing to do after a great dinner. The service is the best we’ve had in all our trips to the Bahamas (which is always generally really good). The staff were incredibly friendly, courteous and very helpful. Again, best service we’ve ever had in our travels. My wife and I both agreed, “this is our new favourite spot.” We are already planning our next trip. Thank you Island House! Life has been hectic this past few years raising our children. This was EXACTLY what we needed. Thank you for a truly great experience. Cheers!…
I booked a 5 day stay at the Island House for the first week of August. While there were no issues during my stay, I would like to make future guests aware of dishonest business practices. I booked my stay through Expedia and paid extra for free booking cancellation/modification. For personal reasons I needed to amend my booking to arrive a day later than originally planned. I called Expedia within the free cancellation period and was given confirmation by the customer service agent that my booking would be amended with no fees. Upon arriving at Island House on the new arrival date, I was subsequently made aware by management that my cancellation request was denied and I would be charged for the night that I was not there. I was not given a valid reason why the amendment was not made, despite Expedia confirming it had been. Whether the blame is to be held with Expedia or Island House is of no significance. To be charged nearly C$1000 for a night that I was not at the hotel, and having made the amendment within the free cancellation period and accordance with their policy, is not only entirely unjust, but is an instance of two companies acting dishonestly. I would not recommend using Expedia or Island House to future guests.…
We reserved a several night stay at the Island House, which we unfortunately had to cancel at the last minute because of unanticipated issues. We were aware of the hotel's no cancellation policy but had hoped that they would work with us so that we could either move our reservation or pay a penalty. Instead, the hotel gave us the runaround (repeatedly asking us to email Expedia but then not responding to Expedia) and did not work with us. We would have loved to have stayed here but were very disappointed that the hotel charged us for our entire reservation and was not flexible with our booking.
Wow! This hotel was a fantastic stay. We ended up here for one night as our flight got cancelled and I am so happy we did. We had stayed previously at Baha Mar and it really turned us off from Bahamas. Price gauging at every turn, line ups everywhere and just really not our vibe. The Island House knows how to do it right. Beautiful grounds, great customer service from The moment you arrive, comfortable and beautiful rooms, GREAT food (best food we had for the whole week in Bahamas was at the Thai restaurant here), beautiful pool area and the private beach shuttle is a must. As frustrating as the cancelled flight was, I am happy it happened so we got to stay here as this really changed our perspective on our stay in Bahamas. We will only stay at the Island House when we come back. Thank you for a memorable visit!…
We went to dinner at Shima Friday night around 7:30 (July 8), we were sitted outside during the sunset. Needless to say the view was absolutely stunning! Then we met our waiter Henry. He made our night that much special he was AMAZING! The service provided was more than excellent and the food was delicious! We had the pleasure of meeting the chef! Again, what a wonderful person! He made us laugh and his food was perfection! LITERALLY THE BEST CHEESECAKE WE’VE HAD! We were visiting from Montreal and it was our last night in the Bahamas. We will remember this night forever and we are so grateful to Henry (the best waiter of all times) and the chef! Thank you so much for being part of our memories, we will be back for sure!!! Make sure to tip them well they deserve it :) Thank you for a beautiful dinner!…
A great boutique hotel. Very spacious rooms, large well lit bathrooms. The hotel has everything you could need, large pool, gym, spa, cinema. Fabulous restaurant, use of a nearby beach. Love staying there. All the staff really friendly. Feels like a private members club. My preferred hotel when visiting Nassau. The opposite to a resort Hotel.
When I thought of booking a hotel in the Bahamas, I thought, "it must be on the beach." Not quite true in the case of this lovely little gem. What it lacks in being oceanfront it makes up in its style, great people, high quality food and drinks, and the awesome service to the private beach. That beach though... perfect white sand and clear water inside a private residential community. The food there wasn't the greatest, but it was a day well spent. If you want to get away, and don't want to be near all the activities of the capital, this place is perfect. It's far from Atlantis and mostly everything. Perfect for relaxing. The rooms were nicely appointed, clean, stylish, and the views out over the garden were tranquil. Wish I had time to enjoy the spa or the gym, but they have both and they looked very nice. On site restaurant (Asian, can't remember the name) was pretty good. And with a short taxi ride, you can visit other great little spots for dinner nearby.…
I cannot fault this hotel. We found the staff to be constantly friendly and attentive. There is no dining room as such within the hotel but there are three restaurants. Yellowbell cocktail and bites bar offers a good choice of breakfasts and cocktails. In the evening an excellent bites menu is curated by the chef at Shima . Ideal after a day at the beach if you don’t want a large meal. Shima , the Thai restaurant,is situated on the top floor of the hotel with very good food and very good views. Mogano , the Italian restaurant, is a short walk at the bottom of the drive, pizzas are available for room service. The highlight of this visit is the private Fort Bay beach club. This is available to hotel guests. You order a London taxi courtesy car at the front desk. This usually takes 15 minutes to arrive and is a short drive away . On arrival you collect your free beach towels, then a few yards walk to the beach where we were taken to free sun beds with an umbrella a few yards from the sea . You can eat under shade at the bar or have anything brought to you by the staff who were very attentive.…
Came here for a week for some R&R. Everything about this place is first class. We had a king room with marina view which was fine except probably not worth the extra $ since the marina/ocean was quite distant. Room was large and clean and was attended too nicely every day. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent as were the drinks/cocktails. Well equipped gym and lots of yoga, barre etc classes. Pool was great. House car to the beach was a nice perk. All in all a great place. Expensive but highly recommend.
Loved the hotel. So well built and fitted out, the bathroom was a particular delight. The pool was lovely and chilled and landscaping well maintained, the rooms really sizeable and generous, there are great dining options and the hotel is in a lovely situation on the western side of the Island. The massive, not to be underestimated, perk is the shuttle access to the Fort Bay Club with private beach. This is really the best place to hang out on a sunny day, by the beach, have food and enjoy people/boat watching. The staff in the Breakfast restaurant (Yellowbell) and Shima (where we had dinner on a few occasions) are lovely and really made us feel really welcome and relaxed. The "doorman" who drove the taxi to and from the Old Fort Bay Club was also incredibly helpful and lovely. There were however, a couple of points for attention: 1. It felt like sometimes staff, particularly in the reception and poolside, would give attention to whoever shouted the loudest, regardless of how long you have waited to be served. Often the staff would interupt serving me to help/serve/take an order from someone else or "Mr" so and so. This isn't great from either the customers side, as it doesn't exactly make you feel special, or the hotel. 2. The COVID testing could have been so much better organised! Not only did the reception not take/ask us if we needed a booking when we checked in (we had to chase it), they would have been aware of how many people were booked in, in advance. Therefore, they could have assigned 10 minute slots (for example), so not everyone would need to be grouped together sat around aimlessly for 30-45 mins wasting time waiting to be tested. Furthermore, we were not given advance notice, on booking the test with the reception that we needed to fill out a form to register to do the test and get the result. Again, further wasted time on the day of the test. The whole process, despite probably being around for a while, just didn't feel organised at all. 3. On asking about activities to do in the local area, the reception staff didn't really have anything to say and didn't seem interested in helping us. Instead sending us to Google. 4. I asked for help for information etc. on another couple of occasions and again, didn't get much in return. Just promises that staff would get back to me, which didn't happen. 5. The guy running the pool side drinks service was completely over run on some occasions, sometimes when it wasn't even that busy by the pool. On one occasion he thanked me for going to the bar myself and ordering the 2 drinks with the many staff behind the bar, who could have really been helping him by the poolside. I did this after he told me he had too many orders, so couldn't serve me. I got served 10x quicker at the bar! 6. I am not sure who designed the rooms, but the plug sockets are in terrible positions in compared to both beds, and the USB socket between the beds didn't work. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. However, there were some massive drawbacks as outlined above. It is a bit of a shame, especially the part about staff serving others over customers already being served, but at least these are elements that can be improved upon for the benefit of guests in the future.…
