This place was very mellow and welcoming. Lizards, roosters, and pink flowers everywhere. Good staff ready to help and converse. Other guests friendly and chilled. Plenty of strong hot water and welcome air conditioning. And a beautiful orange cat who is clearly in charge. Bend the knee if you see her/him. I came here as a chaperone, quite accidentally finding myself in St Thomas, not at all a beach or snorkel kind of guy. But I ended up at the Galleon, a perfect spot from which to "raid" the town, keep eye on the ocean and its comings and goings, and retreat to to get some work done. Perfect fit. If you're looking for the Ritz Carlton, I think there's one on the east end of the island. But if you've got an adventurous side and you like other humans, this is a good place to stay. Harry and Sonia are very warm and patient. Place isn't perfect, but if you get that neither is life, you'll like the Galleon House.

We chartered a catamaran out of Tortola and needed a hotel when we arrived in St Thomas the night before we caught the ferry over there I chose Galleon House based on the reviews and so glad I did A very charming property with lots of character and great ambiance. Our room had a balcony where we had a bottle of wine and looked out over the harbor and all the great flora in the area. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable We had a small fridge in ours for our wine & beer. The pool was very nice. The continental breakfast in the morning had a wide choice of pastries, fruit, yogurt and power bars. Very good coffee which my wife made even better with some Baileys The location is excellent. There is a nice restaraunt right next door and the main street is just 2 minutes away There is also a little mini mart just a couple of minutes away for incidentals Sonia, Omar and Barb provided simply outstanding customer service and were so nice to us. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked it again on the back end of our trip while we waited for our flight home You will love this place, the location, and most of all the people that work there When we go back, we will for a fact stay here Thanks to Sonia, Omar and Barb for making both of our stays so much fun Michael & Jackie

A lot of steps to haul a bunch of luggage! But the balcony view and location were the focal points. Room was spartan as was customer service. Water pressure could be low but AC worked well. Mini mart nearby. American kestrel perched overhead a nice touch. Worth a stay.

As a 40th birthday gift to myself, I took myself to St.Thomas. I was careful in selecting accommodations because I'm a female and was going solo. This location was perfect! It was a block from some really cool shops and restaurants which offered plenty to do and see. You could catch a taxi or a "safari" to take you nearly anywhere from just down the street. It was a bit of a hike getting up to your room, as I read in other reviews, but I didn't mind. The room itself was pretty basic, but met all of my needs, as I didn't plan on being indoors much. Clean, nice king size bed, cute shower, and the best view! Price was right for what I was looking for! Only down side was the breakfast - I was expecting a hot plate (from what I read in other reviews), but it pretty much consisted of granola bars and bagels (perhaps because of COVID)? But again, it was good for me and I would definitely stay here again!

Really glad I stayed here. Read abt this inn for yrs in my Lonely Planet guide. The hosts Harry and Sonia are gentle souls who really want their guests to thoroughly enjoy their vacations. St Thomas is a very expensive island with digs that avg $250-$300 per night. Personally, I prefer to spend the extra money on food, drink and activities, as I’m usually out and abt all day and just need a bed and shower at the end of the day. High up on the hill, GH overlooks Charlotte Amalie and the harbor. The Grand and I stayed in one of the budget rooms with the shared bathroom. This is usually not a problem for me because I travel with my Clorox wipes faithfully. While The b/r is only shared with 2 rooms, I was surprised how immaculate the bathroom was when we arrived for check-in and also upon waking in the A.M. The room itself was comfortable with a small double bed, tv, AC and a ceiling fan. A nice continental spread is provided, complete with coffee, bagels, muffins, granola bars, yogurt, fruit and juice (a bargain in itself) Located in the downtown area you are near everything the area has to offer….restaurants, taxis, public transportation. The walk down the hill is not a problem at all, and there are a lot of stairs to access the property. Being fitter in my younger yrs, I appreciate the stairs to get in a little bit of exercise while on vacay. Someone with mobility issues may have a problem, as it is an older property without an elevator. If you are traveling light and can do away with all the bells and whistles of a hotel that costs $300 per night, then you will enjoy your stay. Will definitely stay here again.

I will start by saying the staff and co-owner of this place are friendly but unfortunately it is not enough to make up for our experience. To begin we had to carry our two large bags up at least 5 flights of stairs just to check in. There was a man in the lobby who told us he was the lifeguard and we needed to ring the bell to get the check in lady. The lady at check in said our room was not used the night before so it was already clean, this was not true. Our room was filthy with dirty bedding, walls and floors. After reading previous reviews of wonderful rooms, I asked the lady at the front if we could switch rooms and she stated she was not allowed to do this. I sat in the lobby area and was checking out the pool below, when all of a sudden the man who told us he was the “lifeguard” started screaming on the phone about how he was going to kill himself. Very disturbing. I asked the lady at the front if he really worked at the hotel and she told me no. I said I wanted to go swim but him being down there screaming was making me quite uncomfortable. She told me he was just drunk and harmless. Overall this whole stay was a very unpleasant experience and not an establishment I recommend to others.

Ugh, not what my husband and I were expecting based on these reviews!! It's family run (and I believe the family live on site). The staff are all warm and friendly, and it's in a great location. They'd get 5 stars. Heads up that breakfast is more like a continental breakfast, but we were in charge of making it/serving ourselves (IE toasting our own bagels, pouring our juice or water from a plastic jug into a plastic cup, choosing our choice of fruit cups and granola bars from a plastic bin). The main reason for this review is to describe the condition of our room. It gets 1 star. The room was not at all what was advertised. It smelled like Fabuloso upon walking in (it was almost overwhelming, I opened up the window to air it out). The decor was very dated, and several outlets, wall paneling, and the lock on our door were all in need of repair. There were mosquitos everywhere (even with the windows closed), and so we'd wake up each morning with fresh bites all over. Then one morning I found a freaking roach in the bathroom!!! A ROACH! My spirit just about left my entire body in that moment, I knew we had to leave. No way could I get any rest because I'd be wondering what' the heck may be crawling on or biting me while I slept!!! We originally booked a 7-day stay but we left after 2.5 days when I found that dang roach. I wish we could get our money back, but I don't expect that to happen. We found an actual hotel to stay in that's much cleaner. I hate to leave a poor review since I believe this place is a family run establishment (and I know reviews are so important to the business), but I feel like I'd for sure want to be warned of the conditions before making a decision, and it's up to people like me to be honest. Just doing my part to help you make a choice. The risk is up to you.

The vegetation is amazing on this property as are the views from this establishment which is close to downtown Charlotte Amalie. The challenge is that there is no elevator and you need to pull your own luggage up 100 steps plus various inclines to get to your room. The place was clean, the inn keeper was available by phone (the desk not manned) and the breakfast was continental. A value if you are fit.

The Galleon House is perfectly located in the heart of Charlotte Amalie. The host's Sonia and Harry happily welcome you into their beautiful historical hotel. As you walk up the numerous stairs you immediately are enraptured with the exotic trees, flowers, plants and picturesque views of downtown. The front desk areas architecture looks as if it were carved right out of a cave. You can't help but take a moment and soak in the incredible panoramic views of the city below. While checking in Langley kindly shared delectables suggestions on where to find authentic St. Thomian dishes. He then brought our 3 large luggages to the room. He made sure that we were comfortable before closing the front desk for the evening. We stayed in room 333 (one bedroom private bath). Upon entering we were welcomed by the brisk winds of the much needed ac and fragrant scent of fabuloso(IYKYK). The room is clean, small, and quaint.  At breakfast we throughly enjoyed speaking with the knowledgeable hostess Sonia. She peaked our interest in learning more about the enchanted island and hotels history. Sonia spoke so lovingly and gentle about the natives and those who migrated there. The amazingly gorgeous prime location, Sonia & the staff informative & vibrant spirits,  and the  budget friendly and comfortable stay will make you a frequent guest. Things To Note: • Sonia & Harry took over the Galleon House Hotel at the onset of the global pandemic and hurricane wreckage. As the world begins to slowly opens up they will continue renovating. Please practice patience and consideration. • Keep in mind to travel lightly, St Thomas is the land of hills. When you reach the hotel call the front desk and they will help you up with your luggage. • Sonia & Harry are following the governments strict covid laws, in the future they may resume hot breakfasts, but for now they offer a delicious continental breakfast with fresh juice, water, and coffee. • The Galleon House Hotel is hundreds of years old. This was the slaves quarters before they were emancipated in 1848. Keeping the integrity and authenticity is important to Sonia & Harry as well as the community.

Enjoyed a quick stay here on the way home from St. John. The hillside location and all the stairs add to the atmosphere of this little hotel/motel. Very simple rooms, fixtures, furnishings, but you are surrounded by the history of Charlotte Amalie as you gaze out over the town and its harbor from your balcony or the patio in the front desk area. Very simple breakfast, packaged baked goods, coffee, fruit. Pool is just fine to cool off in. Setting, price, and helpful friendly staff more than made up for the motel-style accomodations. Use the money you save to dine out more or buy from local stores in the historic district , all conveniently close. This part of town’s economy has taken big hits from hurricanes and Covid- related drops in tourism. Go before the cruise ships return.
