Pluses: friendly staff, units are updated, walking distance to downtown, most rooms have good views, restaurant was reasonable and good food. Minuses: some units require lots of steps to get to. No elevator, no beach, small pool.
Everyone has a different idea of what constitues a good vacation. If you want to relax at a low-key resort then this is for you. You can lounge by the pool and enjoy food and drink from the bars and the eatery on property and at night you can enjoy live music and karaoke. If you're looking for The Ritz Carlton then this is not for you. For one thing the housekeeping wasn't great and for another it was a bit difficult to get small problems ironed out. I waited days for a working hairdryer. All the staff are helpful and friendly. Here is the most important thing you need to know: the resort is overrun by (wild) roosters and not only do they crow at the break of dawn they crow all day. Some (like myself) are annoyed by it and some don't mind it.
I have never written an online review but as I was looking through these reviews I felt compelled. My family and I vacationed at this lovely resort about six months ago and I have to agree that it is the perfect destination to stay and explore St Thomas save for one bad apple, the Latin security guard. I have never in all of my travels been to a resort where a security guard is posted up staring at the women and harassing the children for having fun. I enjoy sunbathing, relaxing, enjoying a book and a poolside Mai Tai while my children play in the pool. This is my break from the stressful real world. On numerous occasions he would get up and come to my children telling them not to splash each other, to slow down (of course the first time they were running but immediately learned to fast walk which wasn't good enough evidently) and one time to stop laughing so loud. Unreal. At one point he came and towered over me in my two piece making me feel vulnerable and extremely uncomfortable and told me my 3 children age 10 ,8 and 7 could not be in the pool without me! My poolside lounge chair location was not enough. Mind you my children are very well behaved. They were just enjoying vacation together in a resort pool for heavens sake! Fix this issue and Bluebeards is truly a gem! Amazing beauty, fun and educational historic site. Rooms are clean and well maintained. The views! Oh the views! We dream of those views. And the on-site dining is as good if not better than anything we had venturing off property. We would love to return many times a year but not while this rouge security guard is allowed to freely roam. Carol…
This Resort is a really nice place. My room was clean and modern and had a great view. The Desk Staff was friendly. The quality food at the restaurant was a nice surprise. We ate there 3 times! Only had one issue and it was a major one. The behavior of the male security guard was unprofessional unacceptable. he reprimanded my wife for how she raise my children. Asked us if we were staying at the hotel. Why would you ask? Because of the color of my skin? Never been so offended of made to feel uncomfotable and unwelcomed. Not good. It seems to be an issue with his behavior as when i mentioned it to the staff nobody was surprised.
We went to dinner last night, and the hotel staff and restaurant staff were wonderful. However, the pool security/lifeguard was very rude and disrespectful to my children and friends children and made them feel very uncomfortable which put a bad ending to an otherwise great night.
Lovely views however it needs a lot of maintenance abpnd updates. I've never signed as many waivers on checking in anywhere. An attorney's nightmare or dream, depending on your perspective. Restaurant and bar are ok, but overpriced. Seems understaffed.
It was perfect, can not wait to go back. The view from our patio was priceless. Bed was comfortable and accommodations were all that we needed. We are already looking at dates to go back. So much to do while we were there.
Overall, my wife and I did enjoy this resort. THE STAFF - Like other reviewers the woman who checked us in was less than pleasant, but I did get her to smile, and she was actually very friendly the rest of our stay. We had a downright awful encounter with a woman working in the store. Otherwise, the staff were terrific, friendly and helpful. THE VIEWS - Just spectacular. Panoramic views of the harbor and ocean from the pool, bar and restaurant. Sadly, our room had no view and there was no upgrade available. If you book, make sure you have a view from your room. WALKABILITY - The resort is up a mountain. We walked down twice and took cabs back. It is walkable in theory, but you are not going to want to do that every day. You really need a car or spend money on cabs to enjoy the area. Tip of the day - The bell hop will take you halfway down the mountain in a golf cart if you ask. THE BEACH - There is none!! We took a cab to Magens Bay and to another beach by the airport. THE POOL - Very nice with amazing views. Lots of umbrellas and shade. Pool is only 3 1/2 feet deep. There is a hot tub. THE FOOD/BAR - We ate several dinners and lunches on site, and we never had a bad meal. There are multiple menus for what appears to be all one restaurant/bar, which is rather confusing, but we really enjoyed the food. The bar staff (who are also the wait staff) were all terrific, except one. I'm not going to get into details but he was really off putting and creepy. I believe that the crew that runs Greengo's and Tap and Still run the food service at the resort. THE ROOM - Large, comfortable and tastefully decorated with a kitchenette. Lots of towels. Bathroom was small and the toilet was too close to the sink. THE AMENITIES - I understand there is a gym, but I never saw it. There is a convenience store and gift shop. The concierge and bell hop were very friendly and helpful. There is a museum and gift shop that does tours of the castle. OVERALL - We had a pleasant stay at this resort and I would absolutely recommend it. However if you have mobility issues, need a beach on site or have Ritz Carlton level expectations then this is not the place for you. …
Although the property is beautiful and in a great location with renovated, comfortable rooms, the staff at the resort leave much to be desired. Front desk associates appear bothered by the check in process. The lack of warmth and customer service as a first impression was a lasting one. Also, to guests traveling on an RCI or other time share exchange beware of the fees and per person taxes you will get handed at check in after you've already paid to exchange...another bad taste in my mouth. The spiked coffee in the shop and all the food at the poolside restaurant were on point and the only highlights to this resort. I won't likely be back if other equal room types are available elsewhere.
We had a nice Pirate's Pension 1 bedroom unit with full kitchen and the view from the balcony was magnificent. Check-in was OK - had to ask for the parking permit after I filled out a form. The unit was equipped with a dishwasher and clothes washer, but no detergent for either. No laundry bag to exchange towels or linens anywhere in the unit. Housekeeping did bring dishwasher detergent and bag after I called. They also sent a stopper for the tub - can't use the jetted-tub if it won't hold water. No answer or response to messages from the "concierge desk" extension. Resort is still using the no service due to COVID excuse. I have never had to carry garbage up 2.5 flights to a communal can! Nice place, however the annoying issues detract from the vacation.
