I read the reviews before I booked this hotel and I was a tiny bit scared. Bugs, faulty doors, lack of AC, and no pool. It didnt deter me from booking Hotel on the Cay. My stay which turned out to be 26 nights was absolutely amazing. I didn't know the pool was open until somebody said it it was on my second to last day ( never assume) you use your key to get into the pool area and it was awesome. Sarah at the front desk was most enjoyable person to start your day with. I love her. There is a man made river thing on the premises but it doesn't work. I've seen pics of it working. I walked by it all 25 days and never even looked at it. It never affected my stay. There is a guy with a smoker/ BBQ on the island and the food (Amazing). He's an independent cooker(assumption) so they close early but the food is AMAZING . The beach is AMAZING. Get goggles at the little store. Right off the beach you can see turtles, sting rays and a bunch of other fish . Hotel on the cay is the place to be

First of the resort is run down, and by run down I mean mold on the walls, unclean restrooms, and trash around the “Resort” . We left after only one night, there was so much noice and on top of that someone tried to get into our room!. We called the front desk and all the guy said was “ just come down im the morning” this because the front desk closes at 8pm. The beach is beautiful but there are million others like it, with safer places to stay. Don’t get me wrong, I wast expecting a 5 star hotel but man at least half a star. Anyways we got ahold of the “General Manager” Cathy Decker who trying to say that someone breaking in was not a reason to reimburse us like okay, should he have killed us? Ultimately we got our money back, but we will never come back to this place.

I cannot say enough good things about our experience staying at Hotel On The Cay. From the boat taxi drivers, to the owner, every person on staff we experienced was incredibly kind and accommodating. The location was perfect for us, it’s a quiet little island, but a quick two minute boat trip and we were in the heart of Christiansted, the boardwalk! The beach was the best beach we experienced in St. Croix. We went to Fort Beach and Rainbow Beach in Fredricksted, as well as Buck Island, and this was by far the most swimmable water, even with the boats! We were also able to buy Snorkel gear at one of the dive shops on the boardwalk and snorkel right off the beach. We saw starfish, stingrays, and a ton of gorgeous fish right by the dock. We attempted to go to the backside of the island, but didn’t have Fins and backed out when the current got strong. The rooms were a bit dated, but honestly, they were clean and very well air conditioned, our showers were always hot. We had two rooms, one overlooking the back of the Cay, and one overlooking the beach. Both were incredible views, and I honestly doubt you could find a room with a bad view. Overall, we would 100% stay here again!

The most romantic and unpretentious spot of paradise in St. Croix, hands down! Our room boasted the best views of diaphanous water and swaying palms. Clean, comfortable, and affordable - privacy, character, and charisma. Fantastic local people and endless fun, fun, fun. This is the best spot to experience true island flavor, walkable and convenient, the best location! New improvements had been made, and the pool was bliss - all to ourselves and a treasure. From the first ferry boat ride over, it's clearly a plucked dusky jewel, has never gone out of style, and ascends all others. Yes, it is a little run down and rough around the edges, yet an icon and full of history and romance! Virgin Islands Magic at its best.

This was my 1st solo trip and I am glad I chose this hotel. Let me just say this is not a resort town. If you're looking for some big dollar place that charges 90 extra dollars a night to put a mint on your pillow, this is not it. My bed was clean. My view was beautiful. The people were very nice and accommodating. Everybody at the pool bar is extra friendly. The drinks are not expensive. James is an amazing bartender who loves people and will randomly hand you a shot if emerging he whips up. Drink it. It'll be amazing. The bar closes around 10. The food at the small beach grill is good and inexpensive but it closes early. If you want food after about 5:30, just take the water taxi across and there are restaurants (and bars) over there. A water taxi comes along as often as needed to take you to the boardwalk where there are restaurants and shops. It is free to hotel guests but tips are appreciated. If you need a ferry after about 9 or 10pm, the hotel will get one to you. Otherwise, stand on the dock and the water taxi will see you and come grab you. I sat at the pool and nobody was there because the beach is just so vibrant. The pool is not fancy. It is a pool much like one you may have in your backyard. But I'm not sure how concerned I would be about a pool when there is a whole beach 2 steps away from the hotel lobby. If you have challenges with walking, ask about availability of a room on the lower floor BEFORE YOU BOOK as there are no elevators. All the people here are more than willing to take you out, show you a good time, and make sure you feel at home on this island. Most of the people that I have talked to always stay here at this property. One couple had been vacationing here 20 plus years. Again, if you need a fancy hotel room with frills this hotel is not for you. But, if you want a good clean place to lay your head in the middle of enjoying what's going on on this beautiful historic island you will not be disappointed with Hotel on the Cay.

The location is remarkable, situated on a small island just a couple hundred yards from the boardwalk in Christiansted, with many very good restaurants, shops, and excursions. However, the hotel is very dated and needs updating; the kitchen cupboards and drawers are losing their veneer, the pool and outdoor water features are dry. The city is historic (Alexander Hamilton grew up here), the old Danish Fort within sight of the hotel is part of a National Park, and shows the diverse culture of the Virgin Island. The cay itself where the hotel is located is home to a couple of endangered species of tiny reptiles and plants, as well as iguanas. The beach is beautiful and snorkeling from the beach enables one to see sea turtles and rays as well as several kinds of tropical fish. The shuttle boat that transports guests to the nearby boardwalk is efficient and always available. running continuously. So much about this place could be great... if only it were maintained and up to date.

They took out the tiki huts. They make you rent chairs/umbrellas. Used to be first come, first served. No more watersport rentals. No rafts, snorkeling equipment, jet skis, paddle boards, etc. They don't serve breakfast anymore. Sunday evenings are horrible with local boats anchoring on the beach blaring loud music and getting rowdy and raunchy. Forget relaxing. This activity also happens on the boardwalk by Schupe's and Brew STX.

We were supposed to stay for over a week, but left after 1 night. Woke up in the morning to Roaches in our hotel room. Not only the roaches the ceiling had black mold that they had painted over, the sliding glass door to the run down balcony was broken and would not close. Went to inform the manager and she was very rude! Instead of trying to solve the issues and apologize she said I guess this hotel is not nice enough for you. Then told us to leave and find somewhere better. In fact we did!!!! I have never experienced such bad customer service before nor seen a hotel room so disgusting.

I stayed in the hotel for a 7 night stay. I was very disappointed based on the pictures that I saw of the resort. THEY DO NOT REPRESENT THIS RESORT. The rooms are 1 star quality. There is absolutely no activities onsite with the hotel. There is a nice beach bar with great staff and the beach was great but was disappointed that there was no jet skies, snorkeling equipment rental at the hotel. The description for this hotel needs to be updated. You have to take the short ferry over to the boardwalk for EVERYTHING. There is absolutely nothing to eat or drink after the beach bar closes ar I understand 9pm most nights not even a vending machine. I expected to experience the rebuilding after past hurricanes and COVID but the owner of this resort has done nothing to maintain this great location. The pool is not open and the water features are not working which make the resort look run down. I did enjoy the beach, the bar, the ferry operators were great. Christiansted boardwalk was great. If you are going to stay here lower your expectations and it will be fine.

Best location on St Croix. Resort needs some major repairs but the suite was clean and adequate and the snorkeling right off the cay was phenomenal! Maybe by next year the pool and main restaurant will be repaired.
