There are plenty of great and descriptive reviews of the Buccaneer here already, but here are some of our tips from spending a week there with our teenage sons. 1) The website can be a little confusing regarding dinning, but dinner is at the Terrace Wed-Sun and at the Mermaid on the beach Mon-Tue. The Terrace is great, but I would plan on doing it just once during your stay (somewhat limited menu). Mermaid is a different menu each of the two nights and worth trying both. Entertainment is great and the location on the beach is fun. Load up on the included breakfast and keep lunch light. Make reservations for dinner in advance either at the resort or in town. While the resort and Christiansted never felt crowded, all the good restaurants fill up and won't have spots even a couple days in advance 2) If you play tennis, plan to play at the Buccaneer! It is a fantastic facility with a great pro (Dean). There is a round robin Saturday morning and clinics Tue and Wed mornings. Both are a mix of guests and local members and a great way to socialize and get in some exercise 3) The golf course is very unique and a lot of fun. It can get expensive if you play multiple days, but it is one of those courses that one day gives you your best round of the year and the next makes you think you should give up golf. It isn't long, but rewards you when you are playing well and can be sneaky hard when things start coming apart. Our room was wonderful, it was an Ocean View Room which is high up on the ridge overlooking the ocean. We loved it and didn't mind the walk down to the beach, but if you want to be on the water you are going to have to pay more for a room that specifically says ocean or beachfront. The Mermaid Beach is wonderful, staff is great, beach and water are great and the amenities are great. It can get a little louder with families or groups enjoying a few cocktails, so if you want something quieter head over to the Grotto Beach and pool. We rented a car which made getting around much easier. We saw multiple guests struggle with getting taxis and beware there is a $50 surcharge for taxis after 9:30pm. Check the cruise ship schedule for Frederiksted and head over there when there isn't a ship in and snorkel along the pier. We saw tons of sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, sting rays and plenty of fish. You just walk in from the small beach next to the pier. Sandy Point is worth a visit if you are luck enough to be there when it is open. Definitely include a half-day trip to Buck Island.

Hotel's Favorite
The Buccaneer doesn’t disappoint. The 3 beaches are beautiful. All meals are delicious. And most importantly, the staff at the resort (and in St. Croix in general) are some of the friendliest and kindest people you will ever meet. We stayed in the highest Family Cottage on the hill, which had stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and was a convenient walk to all restaurants and beaches. The Family Cottages were a great fit for my family because my two elementary school-aged kids got their own room, while my wife and I had a large room with a king bed and a window seat. The cottage also had a 4-person patio dining set and 2 lounge chairs on the front porch/patio. My kids especially loved the Monday night fire dancer show and the Tuesday night mocko jumbies show at The Mermaid. The Buccaneer truly understands hospitality and manages to be elegant without being pretentious. This was our second stay at The Buccaneer, and we plan to return again soon.

My husband and I returned to vacation at The Buccaneer this March. We had first vacationed here about 9 years ago to celebrate an anniversary, and this time we brought our school-age children (ages 5 and 6) with us. This is my favorite place to vacation in the Caribbean, and I highly recommend it - whether you are traveling for a romantic getaway or a whole family trip! In addition to the beautiful beaches, safe resort environment, and friendly staff, one of the best things about this pst trip was the childcare service Buccaneer provided. We were able to have our kids (both under the age of 10) safely watched by Ms. Dena and Ms. Melissa - both caregivers are warm, friendly, responsible and certified. That made me feel relaxed knowing they were with reliable caregivers. Our kids LOVED them! It was great to be on our own in the mornings (they have childcare all day but we typically had the kids to the "camp" from 9am-2pm). My husband and I played tennis, went for long walks, swam, relaxed, and enjoyed ourselves, and then met back up with the kids in the afternoons and evenings. It was truly one of the best vacations we have ever taken together as a family. I will also add that the food is delicious, and the staff are really nice people. Alberga, who is the Operations Director, is one of the nicest, most professional individuals you will ever meet. He has a radiant smile and so helpful!!!!!! .... And the owner of the resort, Elizabeth Armstrong, holds a welcome/cocktails reception once a week. We also went on a nature walk that she led. Elizabeth is very knowlegable about the plants and history of St Croix and US VI having grown up there, and she is dedicated to her family's resort as well as the whole community. It's really neat how Elizabeth made herself accessible to guests, you can tell she genuinely cares. I don't think I've ever been to a resort where the owner is open and available. The only thing I would change would be requesting that the family cottages be updated. The floors, furniture, and bathrooms were a bit outdated in the family cottages. However, the beds were very comfortable (we slept well! Kids slept like rocks every night, it was awesome....) and the rooms are very clean. .... Highly recommend Buccaneer!

The Buccaneer Handled My Last Minute Wedding and it was Everything that I dreamed of and More! Carmen and Nadia, Gloria did the flowers, Melinda, from Under the Palms Hair Studio did my hair, The Cake lady was Amazing and all of the staff did a wonderful Job! We had approximately 30 guests stay at the resort and our other friends live on island. I cannot say enough about the experience or how Beautiful the Resort is. Also, Kenny the Golf Pro helped all of my guests get a lovely round of golf in as well! Thank You All!

Beautiful resort. Professional, friendly staff in all areas. Food was great. Enjoyed the week so much. The rooms were very neat and organized. All requests were handled promptly. The only minor negative for me was my lack of experience driving on the left handside (European), so I needed a taxi for any trips off of the property. This was an extra expense for shopping on the Island.

We booked our Destination Wedding here and it was incredible! A million dreams come true. The service is unmatched! The views and the resort grounds are so incredible, we cannot wait to make our return visit(s)! Highly recommend to anyone considering a destination wedding in the Virgin Islands to check out this venue. They make the planning process so easy, and the executed on every level the details requested! We booked a golf scramble the day before the wedding to kick off events, and Kenny and his team were so accommodating. Our group started on Hole 4, which meant we finished on the most iconic hole in all of golf I would say (I am not an avid golfer, but my Husband and groomsmen are). Hole 3 is a par 3, where you are elevated and shooting towards the end of a peninsula! We hosted our rehearsal dinner at the beach house (on resort - rented by the bride's family for the week) which was a blast! The view from the beach house is probably the best view in all of St. Croix. It overlooks the golf course - Hole three mentioned above - and a small semi-private beach! The private pool was perfect and contributed to so many great and fun memories all week long! Wedding Day came and everything was so perfect! There are always some things that don't go as planned with any event, but even with the small things that didn't quite go as planned the staff handled everything in stride and made for the absolute best day ever! The food at the reception was the best meal we had all week! SO TASTY! Cannot wait to stay again!

Our stay at the Buccaneer Resort was very relaxing with plenty to do at the resort. We spent time at both pools and on the private beach with food and drinks brought to our seats under an umbrella or palm tree. The restaurants were convenient and the food was delicious, especially the buffet breakfast every morning. There was a fabulous local pianist one evening in the Terrace Restaurant who played while we dined. All the folks who worked there were friendly and very helpful. The Buccaneer is close to Christiansted where there were a fort and other old buildings to explore, plus a boardwalk with many bars, restaurants, and shops. Really loved our stay!
