Best of all worlds: quiet yet close to all of the action, a beautiful, tranquil & authentic hotel away from tourist traps, yet right on the beach, waking distance from amazing restaurants, bars and shops, surrounded by locals and nature in a cool neighborhood. Extremely cheap Uber rides to all of the neighborhoods and destinations. The owner went above and beyond to be sure I was happy (upgrade to room with balcony!!) after a mixup with my reservation, not only alleviating my frustration but made me so so happy for the rest of the trip. Insanely cheap too. I can’t imagine staying anywhere but here if I return to PR - it made my entire trip great

The photos fairly depict the hotel. It's a bit dated, but clean. The staff was friendly. We did not have any problems coming and going morning, afternoon or evening. We ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner and breakfast and it was good. The A/C was way too cold, and there was no hot water for the shower. It's in the middle of a gated community and a five minute walk to Kasalta bakery, Walgreens, etc... and numerous restaurants and bars.

Upon booking Hosteria Del Mar (pre-paying in full), I emailed the hotel to notify them of our planned after-hours arrival, as our flight was due to land after midnight. I was assured of a 24 hour reception service and no issue with late check in. Immediately after landing, I tried to call the hotel as a courtesy to notify them of our impending arrival, but there was no answer. We made our way to the hotel some 30 mins later, which was locked up and nobody in sight. We called both numbers listed on the exterior of the hotel, incessantly knocked on the door and waited in the middle of the night, stranded with bags in tow, for over 30 mins. Our only option was to find replacement accommodation for the night. Arriving back at the hotel the next day I was directed to the manager, Chris. I explained the situation with grace, only to be accused of lying and that the story "did not add up." There was no acknowledgement of the lock-out and we were only offered (with reluctance) a room upgrade plus a 15% discount on the hotel restaurant. I requested a refund on the first night that we did not stay and compensation commensurate with the out-of-pocket expenses incurred after having to seek and travel to alternate accommodation (which totalled over $200). After a lengthy discussion, Chris very reluctantly refunded the first night and would not offer any apology or reasonable redress in line with the unreasonable inconvenience and expenses we were subjected to.

We stayed almost a week in May for our Wedding. We could not have asked for a better stay. * Staff - Above all else, the staff was fantastic. Going out of there way to make myself and other feel welcome. Changing rooms to make views better, etc. They were great * Cleanliness - The places was very clean. In fact, some may find the cleaning of the rooms to be too much with the cleaning fluids. But, I found it reassuring * Views - Views of the water simple can't be beat. The sound of the ocean was memorizing. The only downside was lack of a beach. We expected that when we booked and talking to them later, found out it had been washed away in the hurricane. If we had know about it earlier, may have picked another place, and that would have been a mistake. Overall, a great place to stay. Very local. Very nice. Staff was fantastic.
