TUI downgraded this from a 4 to 3 plus TUI stars recently and I had seen very mixed reviews so wasn't sure what to expect but had a really lovely stay. I was initially put in a room without a balcony or terrace which was not what I booked, a mix up between TUI and the hotel I think but was moved to a better room the next evening. I used the TUI app to report the issue as advised by the hotel reception and between them they sorted it, so was pretty happy with that. I have read reviews saying people didn't get fresh towels or water bottles replaced but I had none of these issues. I did tip the cleaners daily as I feel they work really hard and my room was cleaned very thoroughly each day, water bottles replaced and towels left on the floor replaced with fresh ones. I ate in the buffet and a la carte restaurants (La Roca was my favourite), ate all the salads, had ice in drinks etc. and had no tummy upsets at all. The buffet restaurant does get very busy at times as it is such a huge resort but there was always plenty of food and plenty of choice, I was very happy with the choices on offer. They could do with a few more bar and waiting staff at busier times especially as they are run off their feet but all were very friendly and chatty and I loved that everyone spoke to me in Spanish first and let me have a go at speaking back in Spanish, I really enjoyed practicing my language skills and all the staff are really encouraging and help you along. My favourite bar was near the beach in the Italian village which serves prosecco and is perfect for grabbing a sundown drink. There were huge storms when I was there (which caused local areas to need evacuating and the loss of lives). I cannot praise the staff enough for how they were constantly going round cleaning and fixing things following the winds and overnight torrential downpours when they no doubt were very worried about their own loved ones. There is a big umbrella in the room for use to walk around the resort when it is raining - nice touch! My room was very clean and comfortable and I paid to use the safe. Never had any issues with anything being tampered with or stolen. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and where I spent most of my time when not diving but nice to have the option of different pools as well. I went to dive and just chill on the beach but for those looking for activities, the animation team are constantly on the go providing entertainment and activities. The on site dive centre were fantastic (separate 5 star review for that). I didn't get a chance to do any other excursions due to the adverse weather for a couple of days but easy to book on site for anyone wanting to go. The on site shops were good too. In particular the Hofman Jewelry shop I went into and bought a couple of items. The sales assistant was really kind and helpful and not pushy at all, she let me try on different pieces and take my time to decide which ones I wanted. The on site spa is really good too. I booked a couple of massages when the weather was bad and they were lovely and relaxing. All in all, this is a huge resort and so inevitably with the volume of people passing through there will be a few maintenance issues but these seemed to get resolved pretty quickly. A lot of people seemed to be asking to change rooms due to various issues, but again this seemed to get resolved in a day or so. I was a bit unsure after reading negative reviews before going but went with an open mind and had a brilliant time and loved the stunning beach and diving. I would go back :)

The resort is lovely, but I'm not sure which was the most annoying - the mosquitoes (I got bitten to death every day) or the Viva Club employees who constantly hassle you to become a member, and won't go away even when you tell them you're not interested. Good points first - there's lots to do on site, including daytime and evening entertainments, watersports, fitness classes and a choice of swimming pools or a lovely white beach with plenty of sunbeds. The buffet restaurant has a big selection of foods (some of it is weird, for example broccoli for breakfast!), but there's a very good salad bar if you can't find anything hot that you fancy. You can also eat free at some of the specialist restaurants, though you have to pre-book. The main activity area has a couple of bars and the theatre is close by. There's a nice arcade of shops, including gift shops, beachwear, pharmacy and a gelateria. Most items are priced in US dollars, but shops are happy to take Dominican pesos too. I stayed in a bungalow. The bedroom was rather basic, but the bathroom was lovely, with a wet room type shower, and there was lots of storage space for clothing etc. The bed was comfortable and very soft pillows. There was a small patio at the front with wooden chairs and table (seats not very comfy, but I padded with a couple of pillows). Bad points: the island was experiencing tropical storms with torrential rain when I arrived. The first night I got up to use the bathroom and stepped into a large puddle. I turned the lights on and realised that the roof was leaking and rainwater was running down the walls! It was very late, so I left it till morning to report to reception. As more rain was forecast, I expected to be offered another room, but was just told that workmen would sort it. It started to pour again late afternoon so I went back to the bungalow, and this time the rainwater was dripping onto the bed that I'd been using! The girl who was now manning reception couldn't understand a word I was saying,so I just gave up and slept in the other bed from then on. Luckily that was the last of the rain anyway as I don't think any workmen ever turned up. Secondly, I stayed for 10 nights and sheets and towels were never changed. I know hotels are more eco friendly now, but I would expect at least one change of bedding. Lastly, this is just a minor niggle. The pool bar is self-service for water and soft drinks, but the fizzy drinks dispensers are constantly crawling with dozens of wasps during the daytime (thankfully they vanish after dark). Even if you're nor scared of wasps, you can't get a drink out as the wasps are literally up the spouts, or fall into your glass The resort is really aimed at younger people and families, especially as there's quite a lot of walking required, but overall I did enjoy my stay.

AVOID!!!!!! This hotel is horrendous. We came as a family of 5, we had an interconnecting room. On arrival we notified the reception that our air conditioning was not working, they sent someone up, it was not fixed. We were told it would be fixed the next day, it was not. Everyday I spoke to reception , nothing happened. It was like I was being inconvenient . Our room constantly had a lot of ants in. We found most of the staff are extremely rude . We left feeling very disappointed . We saved really hard for this holiday and felt really let down. We know it was not just us who felt like this as we had spoke to a few other English/ Americans and they felt the same. Please do not book here.

I booked 2 nights here for my anniversary. They made me wait an hour to check in. Ok, that’s fine, I understand it’s busy at check-in time. Once checked in, it started to rain and our cabana was quite a distance from reception, so we were soaked by the time we reached our room. That’s fine - you can’t account for weather. Reaching the room we discovered the keys didn’t work, so we called the general switchboard to see if someone could come and assist us so that we didn’t have to walk all the way back in the rain. They did make us go all the way back, where I had to wait in line another half hour to fix the keys. Then when I asked for a direct number to call in case the keys don’t work again (so I don’t have to walk in the rain a fourth time), they acted like I was being an imposition on them. Two hours after arriving I’m just getting into our room, soaked to the bone. (And only one key worked.) I also paid for an Anniversary package to surprise my husband with a welcome drink at reception, and balloons, decorations, cake, fruit plate and champagne in the room. None of that was provided and when I asked about it they said they’d provide that tomorrow. All of this could be overlooked if the customer service team was at all welcoming, accommodating or understanding of our frustration …or even offered us an umbrella! (It wasn’t until my fourth trip in the rain before someone told me there are umbrellas in our closet.) Instead they were sullen from the very beginning and acted like I was imposing on them for asking about the package I paid for. The cabanas are very cute, but unfortunately our first impression was less than welcoming.

I wish I could say more positive comment on this resort. I’m a viva club member and this is our 3rd resort during our membership with them. To be honest, I don’t like it here. Lots of things are making our stay uncomfortable. Each point of place is a far walk from the other. Our first day, they gave us a dirty outdated room they quickly transferred us to a better one which im thankful for but only to run on different problems as well. The room is nicer more decent and no musty smell. The locked on our veranda is busted so we had to sleep one eye open the first night incase someone breaks into our unit. the water temp in the washroom is very hot and both tv has trouble working. They refused to transfer us for another day so we had to watch and wait for the people that fixes the room to fix it. Our aircon in the room barely blows air. Its our 4th day and still its not fixed. They refused to transfer as well. We had snorkeling on our 2nd day and it was not worth the money. My youngest was given a big life jacket so he was very uncomfortable in the water even had a panic attack. The tour guide was very rudee refused to give proper life jacket. I think staff here in dominicus beach are mostly grumpy. Doesn’t give a 2 cent whether you’re a club member or not. If they want to treat you rudely they will. Staff are not helpful they make you feel like you dont belong. Tables are dirty. They barely attend to your needs especially on dining hours when everyone is hangry! . They give you one option for meat fish chicken on the menu super minimal variety. They are very strict with restaurant reservation too it doesnt matter if you are a member they will refuse to any of your request for wanting a decent dinner. Once you get to a la cartes, service is 1hr to 2hrs. Viva club concierge trick you into believing they listen to your concern but dont really bother if you’re getting your money’s worth. Jokes on us i guess. We pay monthly for membership, saved tons for this trip only to feel crap. I can go on with my complains but for now I just cant wait for our vacation to finish. This is all a regret and if only I knew, I would’nt have pick this resort.

Our first trip to Dominican Republic , and I have to admit after reading previous reviews we have doubted our choice of this hotel but we were wrong. The check in was really easy and pleasant , we got offered cold drink as soon as we’ve entered the reception, Carlos the concierge was fantastic, helped us to book dinner at restaurant and explained all about the resort , whilst bellboy took our luggage to a room -massive thanks Carlos !!!! The hotel is lovely , all grounds are really well kept and clean . Our accommodation was a bungalow , and it was great , 2 comfy beds , and recently updated bathroom. Tv , safe and free-wi all working without a problem . Our room was cleaned daily and to a high standard . Both buffet restaurants provide ample choice of food , freshly pressed juices at breakfast and lovely desserts at dinner. All 3 a la carte restaurant we tried were really good too , with special thanks to Bamboo team who gave us really outstanding service. Entertainment team works really hard throughout the day to make sure guest are occupied with dance classes , competitions and more . Evening show was a hit every night ! There’s several swimming pools in the resort, our favourite was the one with sea water :) , with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. No need to get up at 5am to reserve one - though some guests didn’t get the memo 😅 Overall we are happy that we chose to spend our holidays at viva beach and had fantastic stay . Please don’t let bad reviews fool you

Grand reception beautiful beach soon to be spoiled by people leaving cigarette butts in the sand no option for a smoke free area. Noisy beach, no option for serenity, rooms basic and dated. Lots of activities if you want that from your holiday. If you want to lie on the beach, snooze or read a book uninterrupted then avoid. Geared for Spanish, German and Italian guests predominantly. Buffet. Restaurant repetitive and in resort shop prices hugely inflated. 3rd time visiting Dominican and other resorts have served my needs better. I will not book with Viva again
