We were a group of nine friends who stayed here, unfortunately just for one night. We all loved it, but I think it’s helpful to know what to expect. Castello della Pieve is the name of the small borgo where the hotel, La Torre, is located. The borgo is a small group of seven stone houses, plus a small church, plus La Torre, dating back to the 1300s. It is very well kept and charming. The access is on a gravel road, steep in spots, that is easy to miss from the highway in the valley, though when you look you will see a sign showing the turn. The best place to park is on the slope just before the edge of the borgo, which is where the road turns into a small stone street. You’ll want to walk up the stone street and then down a bit, and on the left you will see a sign for the reception and the restaurant, where you will find Bernardo. We were using 5 bedrooms, which are located in various parts of the main structure. The access to some is inside the main building, while others are accessed from the outside. Because it’s housed in old, stone buildings, it can be a bit dark inside, especially in the common sitting room and kitchen in the main building. The rooms themselves have nice windows and good light and are nicely sized, though, as you’d expect, the bathrooms are small. For the same reason, the WiFi seems to work only in the common spaces and in the restaurant, where there must be access points. We had arranged in advance for dinner, which Bernardo prepared with obvious care. He offered two choices of primo, a very nice tagliatelle with a sausage and zucchini cream sauce and spaghetti with chickpeas. Secondi were a spectacular beef stew and a grilled sausage dish with onions and peppers. For dessert he had prepared a chocolate pudding and biscotti with vin santi. We ate family style and everyone enjoyed all the dishes and the nice, local white and red wines. He then offered us grappa and another digestivo. We all slept well in the quiet of the countryside and arose for a nice walk on paths around the borgo and a good Italian breakfast. For all, we spent 80€ a person, which felt like a great value for all we received. One final note: payment is in cash, though he had accepted a credit card for my deposit.

Castello della Pieve is a beautiful and historic place to stay in the Metauro valley in the Marche region of central Italy. We swam in the nearby river and walked in the hills. On a warm July evening, we were walking back to the stone-walled guesthouse when a firefly flew past. We turned and followed it down a track to an open field which was filled with dozens of fireflies dancing beneath the stars. It was a wonderful experience. The next morning over breakfast, Bernardo, the owner of the guesthouse, explained that there used to be far fewer fireflies, but 20 years ago the farmers in the valley all started growing organic crops and produce to supply a nearby organic cooperative. The reduction in the use of pesticides and herbicides enabled the fireflies to return to the valley in great numbers. This was a wonderful and inspiring experience which gave me a lot of hope.

Castillo della Pieve is a lovely country house with an amazing view. It is like a little medieval village with its own chapel and tower on the top of the hill. We went by car and this seems the only viable option to get there (parking was free just by the entrance of the village). Bernardo, the host speaks enough English and was very friendly and helpful! The room was big and clean, equipped with a TV and hairdryer. The only downside that should be mentioned is that if it’s cold outside the room will be chilly despite the heating.. Nothing devastating but must be taken into account when booking (I can imagine this is not an issue during the summer). We got a nice Italian breakfast in the morning (3-4 types of cakes, jams and honey, fruits, cereals, bread, fruit juice, tea and coffee). For a decent price Bernardo prepares you dinner as well (we had first and second courses, dessert, wine and water). There is a pool (in March when we stayed was out of service) and a beautiful social room with books, toys and a fireplace. Within a 1-2 hours driving radius there are several historical destinations worth visiting. Overall, it was an amazing experience combining relaxation, romance and adventure :) Would return anytime!

We (4 friends from Holland) simply loved our stay at Castello della Pieve! It was very nice to stay in a historic castle (but with today's comfort!) Especially with a host like Bernardo: relaxed & gentilissimo. And let's not forget to mention Paolo, his "brother in crime": together they cooked & served us the most delicious meals. On the terrace of the Castello where you can imagine yourself on top of the world...Thank you both! And the painting looks lovely in our house!

I just came back from a weekend spent in Mercatello. I purchased a voucher from Groupon and I found myself super happy of my choice. The place is stuning. Relaxing and comfortable. The room was clean and perfect to spent a night in. I would not recommend the place to a family with buggies as the road is not Amazing to walk in...but lovely place if you are a couple. We had dinner at the restaurant and we were truly happy with what we had.
