The road up to the park is paved,narrow and lots of turns...but,lots to see. You move up the mountain through different ecosystems. At the top we had clouds on the 1 side and cinder cones on another side.

The two campgrounds that are combined under this heading are entirely different and far apart so do your research before you go. I just stayed at Hosmer Grove, a free campground halfway up the Haleakala Summit just near the Visitor Center. There is drinking water,...More

Make sure to leave early and beat the traffic! You can't beat the views from Mt Haleakala. Sounds silly, but it looks like photos of Mars. We talked to a park ranger at the visitor center who was sort friendly.
