The location of the hotel is very good, between Shinsaibashi Station and Nagahoribashi Station, and you can get there just up the street from the subway underground. It only takes less than two minutes to walk from the hotel to Shinsaibashi shopping street. At the same time, there are many izakayas, bars or restaurants within 500 meters of the hotel. As stated on the website, the counter staff can speak Chinese/Korean/English. It’s not like other hotels where the counter still doesn’t understand your question after explaining it for a long time. The accommodation, whether it was the bed or the bathroom, made me feel very high-end, beyond my imagination. Furthermore, the hotel also provides delicious free coffee on the second floor. Finally, this hotel also provides luggage storage to the airport. Although the service costs money, it is very convenient for those of us with very heavy luggage. We don’t have to carry our luggage and run around.

Hotel's Favorite
Well worth the top rating on Tripadvisor ! This hotel is exactly what you need, it’s super clean, fresh, comfortable and high quality. The service throughout from front desk team to house cleaning was spot on! I was there with my son for 8 nights and it was so comfortable and convenient. The location of the hotel is great and you are nearby Dontonbori and many many restaurants and bars etc. Its surprisingly quiet too and you don’t hear a sound from outside from the room. We will for sure stay at this hotel again when we are in Osaka !

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.

This hotel was featured in at least three travel magazine articles we read before going to Japan. There are a few good things, but some important watch outs.
Pros:
- great location, very close to shopping street, department stores, nice restaurants, metro station, convenience stores, etc.
- really nice service, especially from the general manager who went out of her way to find and book a restaurant that served what we wanted to eat
- new construction
- cleanliness
- good breakfast
- washers/dryers available near lobby
Cons:
- the standard room is ridiculously small and lacks even the most basic amenities (there are no night stands and the only place for your luggage is the floor, and you'll have to jump through the bags in order to get in/out of bed). We ended up paying extra to switch to a larger room, which was not much larger to begin with, but at least had night stands and a couple of places for our carry-on bags.
- what some guests call "zen style", I call "minimalist". Minimalist as in "minimal beauty and comfort" - a small bed, no closets, a step-up bathroom good for tripping at night, and a general feeling of being cramped. You'll know what I mean when you see the pictures I took of the ceiling while lying in bed. Definitely not consistent with the price point.
Please keep all of this in perspective if you, like us, were drawn to this hotel based on the rave reviews published on travel magazines.

4 night stay
Upside:
(1) Staff quality - Staff paid attention to details and showed thoughtful concern about guests. E.g. when I indicated while making the reservation that I would be arriving late at night, they emailed me with instructions of how to enter the hotel after midnight. They also offered advice on how best to get from Kansai airport to the hotel. Then, when I arrived even later than expected due to my flight being delayed, they emailed to check on me.
(2) Location - Right in the heart of the action in Shinsaibashi, with many shops, restaurants and services nearby. Nearest Osaka Metro station is about a 5 minute walk away.
(3) Good soundproofing - Despite the neighborhood being busy at all hours, there was hardly any sound coming into the room. E.g. I'd no issue taking naps during the day due to jet-lag.
(4) Clean, fresh and modern room, with efficient use of space in both room and bathroom.
Downside:
(1) Limited views - Perhaps for privacy and security reasons, the sliding door leading to the external corridor is frosted and is blocked from opening completely. However, this means that while light can come in, my room didn't really have any view despite being on the 7th floor.
(2) No on-site gym - Although the hotel has an arrangement with a Gold's Gym, it's about a 10-minute walk away. Walking to/from the gym wasn't an issue at this time of the year, as the weather was warm enough that I could walk outside in gym clothes. But, in winter, you may need to pack clothes and toiletries to change and shower at the gym. Also, foreigners might be unfamiliar with certain gym norms in Japan - e.g. you're required to wear gym shoes that have not been worn outdoors (limited number available for rent at an additional fee); tattoos must not be visible; etc. A tip - to avoid having to bring along your passport to show to the gym's reception, take a photo of it on your phone.

It's a nice boutique hotel, efficient service, with awesome free coffee on its lobby floor. On-site laundry service makes it convenient for those that needs to have clean clothes after a lengthy travel. We book 2 standard twin rooms. The rooms are a bit small. I know that this is probably standard in Japan but there is just no place for your luggage to stay open. If 2 of you wanted to open both your luggage's to get stuff, then it is just very tight space. Location is good but not great. Near the Shinsaibashi station but not that close. My room's temperature was not really acting well. If I set is on heater mode even at 20C the room gets too hot. If I set to an aircon mode it goes quite cool so not sure how their thermostat works. However, our other room was fine. Rooms are clean, no coffee in room, only green tea. Showers are good, towels not fluffy but just standard and clean. Instagrammable front facade. Good room keys for security entering the building late at night and accessing the elevators. Get some restaurant tips from the front desk, some are good some are not as accurate on their opening times so better check directly with the restaurant's official site.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review for us. We are glad to see that you enjoyed the cleanliness of our rooms, and our amenities such as our coffee corner and laundry machines. We apologize for the inconvenience when it came to the air conditioner in your room. We will share this information with our maintenance staff so that we can better improve our facilities for future guests. Also, thank you for your feedback about our restaurant recommendations. As some restauants are privately owned they may change their opening times depending on the day. Wow. Firstly I would most definitely return and recommend this hotel. Let’s start with the interior:
From a smooth check in with beautiful Japanese modern architecture, we loved the style of the hotel. Immaculately clean, and friendly staff with the best free coffee I have ever had at a hotel. There I have said it!
The room was compact in typical Japan fashion but perfectly arranged, hot powerful showers and lovely amenities, comfy beds and slept very well. No noise just comfort.
Breakfast was very tasty and was included, totally worth it. The problem was is our expectations for hotels following this was quite high!
The location was perfect and even loads of restaurants steps from the hotel.
A fantastic stay and a great introduction to our two week trip over Japan. Would love to return!

A nice hotel that has (big bonus here a laundry!). you pay a small fee to do a load and there are also dryers, washing poder provided. I stayed here twice and have to say that when got off at Sinsaibashi train station and exited at the hotel sigested exit, I emerged on a very busy covered shopping street so that made it hard to work out where I needed to go. After wandering around and asking, I found the correct exit to take the short walk up the road to the hotel. I waited a short time to check in, there is a nice resting area to wait at at reception. There is another lounge where there is a enclosed smoking room and free coffee and free cold water. This was popular for hanging out and for families and for eating or snacking. Some of the reception staff spoke great Englis and were overall very helpful.
On checking in (each time), they gave me a free breakfast voucher (much appreciated). This location is handy for trips and sightseeing as it is close to the station which is worth checking out as it has lots of shops and eating places.
The panel (where there were switches and charging ports behind the bed was a bit awkward due to its positioning.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend.

When I checked in, I happened to meet a staff member of Hong Kong descent. I was very grateful to her for her help in handling some unexpected things and also gave me a surprise. I really appreciate her.
It happened to rain while I was in Osaka, and you can borrow umbrellas in the hotel. However, I was stupid and found out that my umbrella was missing somewhere in Umeda when I came back. I was really sorry, and I apologized to the front desk staff and wanted to compensate. But the counter staff was very polite and said no, I really appreciate them.
facility:
The room is fully equipped and equipped, which is perfect for one person. There is a coin-operated washing machine at the back of the lobby, which is very convenient. There is free coffee in the waiting lobby and a comfortable seating area to rest. The music that happens to be playing is very suitable for me and makes me dream back to my youth.
Place:
Located next to Shinsaibashi Subway Station, it is very convenient and easy to get to various attractions. Although the area is very lively at night, the windows in the room are very soundproof and will not be affected by the outside world at all.
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to single or group travelers. I will come back if I have the opportunity. Thank you for your care~

Stayed at Hotel The Flag Shinsaibashi. It is a small tiny hotel along a alley close to the busy shopping street, where we can find Diamaru and Parco department store. A short walk to Shinsaibashi subway (Midosuji Line), a few exits for access to subway. Guests are able to help themselves to ice and cool drinking water, plus coffee and tea at any time of the day. In my opinion, this is wonderful during this hot period. The Breakfast spread is good enough for us before the start of a day, we truly enjoyed it. Generally, the hotel rooms in Japan is pretty small in size, so we are prepared mentally. Though the room is small with not much moving space, the bed seem to be a supper single (I guess) and very comfortable too. Room assigned to us may be a bit closer to the night club, where we could hear faint tempo sound in the night, but it was not an big issue to us during our stay as we were so tired after a long day out. Counter Staff and café staff are very helpful and able to communicate in English. Notes were left for us of updates on our requests. Though it is not a hotel with many facilities but it is Good for us and we did enjoyed our stay at The Flag.

Thank you for your detailed review of your time with us. We are glad to see that you enjoyed our location and amenities especialy during the hot summer. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and breakfast as well. We always try our best to give our guests a comfortable stay, and we are sorry to see that you experienced some distubances in the night. We are in the busy downtown area which can get lively at night; however, we are always working on improving our soundproofing in our rooms. We hope that next time you come to Osaka, you will give us another chance. Thank you for your review!

My sister and I stayed at The Flag for 8 nights. It was the first hotel that I am totally impressed, not by the facilities but cleanliness. Being someone with a lot of allergies, I am always particular when it comes to hygiene. My twin bedded room, while small, was adequate. Not a speck of dust to be found anywhere. The housekeeping was meticulous and paid attention to details. I appreciate that very much. Slippers and bathroom robe were provided. One would hardly notice the housekeeping as they move about the corridors quietly. There weren't even carts outside much to my amazement!
Buffet was the run-of-the-mill variety with little changes daily. However the service staff (two young ladies, one with round glasses) were excellent. They remembered after Day 2 of my daily request for soya sauce. So each morning they presented me with a small ramekin of soy sauce without me asking. The food was not fantastic, but acceptable to fill one's belly. I do miss a variety of fruits and perhaps better bread.
The washing machines and dryer were a nice touch. And rather cheap too, all things considering.
Reception staff, with special mention of a Taiwanese guy named Joe, was very helpful and friendly. They were most eager to share tips about the restaurants nearby and how to get to certain sightseeing places. On my day of checking-out, it was raining. The receptionist on duty, a Japanese lady, was quick to hand us complimentary umbrellas. That was absolutely surprising and we were blown away by the good service!
Overall, I will return to this hotel in a heartbeat. The location was superb. Not too close to be disturbed by all the hustle and bustle of the city. But quiet enogh to get a good night's sleep. The firm beds helped a lot too!
