City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

Front desk, concierge and hotel staff get top points. I don't know what happened to the breakfast room personnel, though. First, you have to pour coffee yourself, but it is not easily accessible, and second, the staff is not very friendly, like in the rest of the hotel.

Spent three nights here while on a tour of Japan. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was a good mixture of western and Japanese style food. Lighting was good. Staff was very courteous and language was not a barrier to our enjoyment of the hotel and facilities.

Hi all, What is difference between double room and twin room in term of payment? Is twin room devided in two about payment or not?
Twin room just means two smaller beds instead of one large one. I would guess the rooms would be very similar in price but best to check with hotel directly.

How would one get to Kyoto convention center from your hotel? thanks
Hi, I had no reason to go to the convention center when I visited so I used Google maps to see public transit options. Put the convention center into Google . Click on the map that appears and use the Get Directions function to see transit to the Okura. That's the little bus icon. You get a tap card for public transit and load it with yen. Then you just tap and use for all buses/trains etc. You can use the same card in other Japanese cities like Tokyo. You could also just take a taxi. They are very reliable and very honest. It is about a 20min drive.

Is there anywhere I can see the menu for the hotel?
Can’t recall seeing a menu. I only ate at the hotel during breakfast and it was buffet style. Anyway the spread was wide ranging and of good quality, so don’t worry about it.

What is the difference between a double and a twin room?
Hi, All these questions about rooms can be easily answered by going to the Okura Kyoto web site. It is in English and on the front page if you scroll down and look on the left there are explanations and pictures of all the rooms. Double -means a bed for 2 people Twin means 2 beds There are really good pix on the web site but I am not allowed to post links to the web site here. Just use Google to find it and click on the one that has English in the site.
