We had a wonderful time everything was great about the resort except the beach club being closed. If the beach club had been opened I would give them 10's across the board. I would highly recommend the Explorean great value. The excursions were great also!
Nestling snugly behind the Fiesta Americana is The Explorean Cozumel. Delightful thatched cottages with balconies overlooking the tree line; the figs are filled with hummingbirds and iguanas, the latter sunbathing lazily. Fresh coffee and orange juice are delivered to one's door each morning. You awake refreshed from a good night's sleep and sit enjoying the forest whilst sipping a morning cup of joe. And then breakfast, which is delicious Mexican food. There are beers or cocktails aplenty as you rest on a lounger beside the emerald green jungle pool. Perhaps you want a swim? I swam countless lengths in the cooling water, feeling one with nature as I passed beneath the shading canopy of tropical hardwoods. Lunch is always a treat here, dinner an experience. The staff are, to a person, incredibly warm and friendly. At night-time, the lights slung above a path through the forest is delightful. The neighbouring Fiesta Americana doesn't have a beach club at present. There is, however, access to a rocky shore, beneath whose surface are waters teeming with fish and other marine life. The shoreline snorkelling there is great. So is the pool, with a friendly bar where one can sit in the warm water whilst enjoying a pina colada or ice-cold cerveza. The entertainment there is fun, the Explorean's excursions fantastic. Needless to say, El Cielo was the highlight of the week on Cozumel. One last thing, a big shout out to our American fellow guests, whose warmth and friendliness made us feel as though we had known them all our lives. The Explorean was a week of sunshine and luxury. After which, onto the Riu Yucatan for the first time in a quarter of a century...…
Let me start off by saying we really loved our stay here. We would absolutely return. I’m going to get the brutal honesty out of the way first so you can get the full picture. Are some pool tiles missing? Sure. Is service on the beach not operating? Yes. Is the hot water in the shower not never ending? Accurate. But you really have to understand Cozumel is an island still recovering from the pandemic like everywhere else. The level of service they are able to give is still luxury and high end. We checked in on a Sunday afternoon and we’re greeted by Gabriela, Saul and all of the lovely front desk associates. As a gay couple, we are always a little on guard on vacation. But the front desk staff treated us like family and celebrated our vacation as a couple. They are truly gems. The room was spacious, modern and with amazing air conditioning. Wifi is reliable and strong. No TV but you don’t need it. The views are of gorgeous jungle foliage. The grounds themselves are very beautiful. It has a very jungle aesthetic. During our stay we encountered birds, iguanas, geckos and other cute creatures. Housekeeping was very friendly and did an amazing job. A great perk is getting full access to the next door (steps away with two paths connecting) Fiesta Americana. All together we had access to three pools, two jacuzzis, two bars, a cafe, one buffet, four restaurants and one area of beach access. All the food was great and that’s hard to find in an all inclusive. I enjoyed literally every meal. Our favorite bartenders/servers over at the Explorean were Manuel and Daniel. We spent a lot of time specifically with Manuel and he is among the best. Over at Fiesta, Joao took great care of us as our buffet server. Overall we had such a great time and are so thankful of the staff for our fantastic stay. We strongly recommend staying here.…
We went on a family trip and I was very impressed. The food was good at the explorean every time! Usually all inclusives are mediocre at best but this food was legit good. I was disappointed every time we spent money to eat off property. The staff was super friendly and so nice. They remembered your name by day 2 and went out of their way to treat you like a regular. The tour guides on the included excursions were amazing. We had Armando and vega and both were very knowledgeable and so happy! The included excursions were all pretty cool! The rooms were super clean everyday and restocked. The fiesta pool was more party vibe so we went there a lot. The snorkeling off the hotel was better than most snorkeling I’ve seen especially in the morning. Only negatives are they do need to replace pool tiles and their beach beds don’t have mattresses on them and the bar at the beach is closed. That’s super disappointing but they definitely made up for it in all other aspects. Love the intimacy of this hotel with the option to go to bigger fiesta resort! The dinner at the Italian and Mexican was good at the fiesta.. buffet was mediocre and Asian we had a bad experience but that’s at the fiesta. …
We returned for our 7th stay at the Explorean Feb 26 through March 7. As you can guess we really like this place. The staff here sre so great. Alfonso at the Explorean restaurant has become an old friend and made our visit feel like visiting family. He went out of his way (again) to provide a few extra special touches to our stay. So glad he is back and not on the Fiesta Americana side like last year. The enormous gap left by Roberto's departure was filled at the pool bar by Samuel very well. Luis was there again and so was Manuel at the restaurant making for an excellent relaxing visit. On the Fiesta Americana side hostess Alejandra was always smiling and greeted all guests pleasantly at the Italian and Mexican restaurants, Danieli was the same at breakfast. Jose and Glenda at the Cevicheria (sp?) were always upbeat and helpful. Isabell and Gabriel at breakfast were fast efficient and friendly. Jean at the pool was great and my wife says Jasmine at the spa was a wonderful masseuse. We will return next year if we can. If you have never visited, here are a few things. The Explorean property is in need of a little repair. The lounge chair cushions are showing their age and the pool tiles are really in bad shape. I give up on the jacuzzi EVER working again. It has turned into a kiddie pool/ loud bubble noise making device. The beach front at Fiesta Americana is still closed (3 years in a row for us) Probably never to open again. You can still use the waterfront but no services there. The clientele seemed a little shabbier this year. People were reserving chairs and day beds by placing towels and books on them and not showing up sometimes until 2 pm. Go to Cancun if that's your thing. There are 3 day beds and 11 lounge chairs at Explorean. The hotel should nip that practice in the bud.…
We had a nice stay at the Explorean, although there's room for improvement in terms of the scheduling of the excursions and the closed beach club. The food is great (it's always cooked to order instead of being a buffet format), as are the rooms, which are aesthetically pleasing, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast baskets were a nice touch for those who like to have a light breakfast in their rooms, although we definitely preferred the lovely cooked to order breakfasts at the restaurant. Service was generally good (especially the wonderful man at the front who helps arrange taxis, who helped us negotiate a reasonable price to rent a taxi for several hours to tour the east side of the island), although the people in charge of the excursions could have been better, in my opinion. We also loved the great snorkelling easily accessible from their beach club area. A great feature of the Explorean is having access to the sister property and its facilities and restaurants, and the a la carte restaurants that we dined at had great food. However, one of the selling points of this resort is supposed to be having access to the beach club at the sister resort, but it was closed when we were there, and it seems like it's still closed. When we were there, there were no facilities (chairs, sun beds, restaurant, etc.) at the beach club area, but we were still able to go snorkelling (and the snorkelling there is great!). It's just a shame that one of the selling points of the resort has been closed for so long, and considering the price of a stay at the resort, it really is a noticeable loss. One thing that I think should really be improved on is the way that the included daily excursions are scheduled. You don't find out which excursions you're scheduled to go on until you arrive, and they won't take into consideration any communication that you make prior to check-in (via email for example, which we sent far in advance of our check-in) indicating a preference for certain excursions. I understand that they can't give every guest what they want in terms of excursions, but I would have appreciated finding out our schedule in advance just so that I could have, far in advance, booked my own tours or made other arrangements to do the other things that we wanted to do on the island that the Explorean offered as excursions but had not scheduled for us. However, knowing that the 3 things we wanted to see off-resort were possible Explorean excursions meant that it seemed potentially like a huge waste of money to book them all in advance only to arrive and find out that those excursions had been scheduled for us by the resort. Upon arrival, we found out that only one of the four excursions that we were scheduled to go on was one of the three things that we wanted to do off-resort (the Punta Sur trip), and the the rest weren't of interest to us. We politely asked if we could have our schedule changed to at least include one other excursion that we were interested in, but we were not accommodated. In the end, we had to spend time while on vacation making our own arrangements to see the east side of the island (which was one of the possible Explorean excursions that we weren't scheduled on) and to book our own snorkel trip (another possible Explorean excursion that we weren't scheduled on). As I said, I wouldn't have minded organizing those on my own before we arrived in Mexico for our month-long trip, but having to do so while we were at the resort once we received our schedules was a waste of time and was a little frustrating when it would have been much easier if we had just received our schedules in advance or had been told that certain excursions would not be scheduled for us during our stay. As for the Punta Sur excursion itself, it was quite good, although I do think there's room for improvement from an organizational standpoint - for example, it would be good to give guests advance notice of the entrance fees so that people can prepare the right amount of cash, which would speed up the process, instead of the fairly long amount of time it took for the guide to make their way through the bus collecting money and trying to get enough change for certain people on the tour. Other than that though, I think the Punta Sur excursion was run pretty well and we had a great time. With the excursion scheduling process and the closed beach club, I can only give the Explorean 4 stars instead of 5, but it's still a good resort.…
This is our second year at Explorean and we love it. The staff especially are amazing! Victoria at Fiesta in Concierge really really helped me out when I made several mistakes in our bookings. Miguel at the cafe is fantastic. Nestor and his counterpart (can't remember his name) did such a great job w/the snorkeling trips - even took us 2x when we didn't see that much. He was very aware of the currents and safety. If you have a massage or scrub, ask for Naomi. I'd like to take her home with me. We have already booked for next year - our 3rd in a row.
Just spent a week at the Explorean. This was my second time staying at this resort. Both stays equally wonderful. Explorean has everything that a top resort in Cozumel has but also includes access to fiesta Americana’s facilities so it really is like getting a two for one. It’s also a benefit that the Fiesta Americana guests can not access Explorean services which makes the resort very quiet and private. What really separates this place for me is the staff, the most accommodating and genuinely friendly people i have ever met, they will do just about anything you ask and always with a smile. Also the excursions are included and the staff and guides are equally as genuine and friendly. The excursions are planned in advance, you will be given an itinerary when you arrive, it's a good idea to look over everything that is offered and request what you want even if itit is not assigned to you. There are four table service restaurants and a buffet, three at the Fiesta Americana and one at Explorean. You will need reservations except for Explorean restaurant which is never busy and very private. Food is not five star but it is very good and fresh, there is also a sushi bar that is made to order and is excellent. The overall vibe is relaxed and extremely happy with a lot of families, bars and pools are laid back even late at night, pools however close at 8pm which is somewhat of a bummer. There is one thing you need to be aware of, the beach and dock are not open, however you can still access the beach and the pool is maintained, there are also chairs and beds that you can use. I was really disappointed the first time i stayed but it actually is nice because nobody really uses it and the snorkeling is unbelievably good. I snorkeled all the popular spots on the island and none of them were better than snorkeling in front of the hotel. My room was very nice and clean with an awesome walk in shower, a/c was ice cold, fridge was always stocked and free and the room was made up every day. I don't have one bad thing to say about the place, Cozumel is wonderful and extremely safe, I will be back again and I will be staying at Explorean,…
Our trip to Explorean was great mostly a credit to great staff there! Food also was always great and they try so hard to meet every need! We enjoy activities as well! Place is always very clean! They do need some pool maintenance done and pool was too cold so needed heated! Special thanks to Arturo and Jose who are real rock star employees!
We stayed at The Explorean for two weeks. This was our second trip here. We choose it for the great snorkeling out front. The staff are very friendly, the rooms comfortable, and the food very good . We would be happier if the beach service was reinstated. Big thanks to Julio doing the excursions. He is great to point things out when snorkeling and very safety conscious ( there were a lot of novice snorkelers) . He and Luis gave up their evening to take us night snorkeling 🤿 which we really enjoyed. Thanks to Edgar and the rest of the staff at the Explorean restaurant for the excellent breakfast service. Until next time!
