The location is about a 15 minute walk from the highway/port. Very nice looking place with a view straight out over the water where there is good snorkeling to be had. Aircon was quiet and worked well. As did the cable TV. The bed had clean linen and I had a comfortable sleep. There was a storage unit with hanging space and a desk and chair with power points conveniently located. Very good lighting.
The bathroom shower was separated by a curtain. The water pressure was okay but the hot water was lukewarm at best. Only hand soap dispenser provided.
Table and chairs right outside your door. You can order your meals at reception from a fairly comprehensive menu and it will be brought to your room at whatever time you request.
Overall, I was impressed with the set up here. Very relaxing place if you just want to chill out. Certainly one of the better places to stay on Leyte. Thoroughly recommend.

Our third time of visiting and the owner joy was as super helpful as ever.
Rooms are simple and functional facing into their covered courtyard area and onto the sea.
Joy knocked up a couple of nice dinners at short notice - but give her a few hours warning to do something a bit more complete! Her team were good as well helping buy a birthday cake in advance of our stay.
All in all can't fault the arrangements and help and at the price offered its a good place to stay.

This hotel was nice to stay at for 2 nights right on the water. It is a lovely place to sit outside and chill. The staff were all nice. The rooms are clean. The view is nice. The wifi was ok but a little weak in the end room. We had to book direct and with cash as they are not on any booking sites. But a good choice if going to Padre Burgos. It is a nice place.

Did not have reservations and came upon this gem of a Hotel by luck. Rooms were spotless service was perfect and food was spectacular. My wife and our family had an excellent time watching the moon rise and sunrise the next morning. Thank you for making our trip to Padre Burgos one we will not soon forget. Ted and Daisy

What could you ask more?
A perfect location right in front of a coral garden, wonderful hosts and happy personel, dedicated to help you in any way and who can arrange anything around Padre Burgos.
F.E, I ask Joy, the day we arrived at 7pm, how to join a Whaleshark tour. The day after, at 9am, I was already in the water, swimming with them.

Went here two times already and both times we were taken care of by the owner. Very hands on and always making sure we were alright. That kind of customer service alone merits this place a very good rating.
To get here though is an adventure in itself. Maasin is about 3-4 hours via Tacloban and usually you ride a van. But there are also buses that ply this route. From Maasin proper you then take a jeepney ride for another 30-45 minutes to Padre Burgos.
But once you get to JD it's all worth it. It's small, like 4 rooms only but it has that homey feeling that just puts you at ease right away.
We love hanging out at the common area where you sit there and just look at the calm sea. Very relaxing.
They serve really good food. Everything's fresh and made from scratch. So expect to wait a bit. But it is worth it.
But the best part is the beach where it is located. Not for casual swimming or sunbathing but really for snorkelling. It was so amazing to just walk down the hotel and snorkel some amazing fishes and coral. We also saw sea turtles! Sea turtles! Amazing!
If you want a beach where you can swim, there's one near the hotel. Just ask the staff about it.
Another good thing about the hotel and its location is you can make your way to Limasawa Island (an hour away) or Siargao. Yep, surfer's heaven Siargao is near Padre Burgos.
Will always go back here whenever we would be around the area again. Also planning on a trip from Tacloban-Maasin-Siargao!
P.S. If you plan on booking tell them you got the information from the people of PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association).

We came there without any reservations nor knowing much about Padre Burgos and we were so lucky to find this pearl. Definitely the best hotel we have been in the Philippines. Fantastic and very helpful owners and staff, which helped us with our every needs and gave advices for the following days. The place is beautiful, right in front of the Napantao Marine Sanctuary (you literally have breakfast two steps away from beautiful corals, fishes, turtles... unbeliavable). The hotel itself is awesome: simple rooms but very clean and big, beautiful terrace... and the sea. Oh my god the sea!

We went there for a couple of days because we wanted to dive in the South of Leyte in order to see the whaleshark and the fabulous dive site of Napantao. This is by far the best hotel that I did in the Philippines. You are not in a hotel, you are at home and the owners Joselyn and Derek will do everything to please you. The rooms are clean and nice. The food is excellent. The staff is so friendly. And at the end, it is cheap. For sure I will go there again just to see Joselyn and Derek again and maybe the whalesharks

The resort is simple, cheap, yet very homey. Very clean and direct to the point with and outstanding view of the ocean. Our host, the owner, for me was the deal maker of the trip since she was super accomodating and really nice. She gave great advice on where to go, she bought us the yummiest food and really just treated us like her personal guests. We were treated like guests, not just mere customers.Hands down to her hospitality

My family and I really enjoyed our visit here. As a westerner I like my comforts when travelling abroad and JD doesn’t disappoint. Fabulous food, lovely staff, comfortable accommodation and fantastic swimming. I highly recommend this place. Wonderful. The owners Joy and Derek deserve every success with this place.
