Detailed Reviews
Our group (of 8) drove up from Quezon City to visit Apayao, Kalinga and Abra. First stop was Luna, Apayao. Not knowing about hotels in Luna, I checked the internet and somehow in Google Earth, I saw the structure of Star Jewel Lodge looks nice, so, I called their number to reserve rooms for us. The owner, Josefina 'Sefing' Purogrog met us and showed us some rooms -- cottages or the newly built rooms. We opted for the new rooms -- a Deluxe room, good for 4, for just me and my wife for P1,000 and our 6 companiions got the Family room for P2,400 (P400;/pax). The rooms were excellent, specially for the price. Sefing served us Kalinga coffee while we were resting @ their dining (open) area and also gave us 3 different kind of suman that she purchased from the market (for free, though she bought it for P2/each). We had them cook our dinner and food was superb and plentiful. Sefing and her staff is very friendly and helpful.
I highly recommend this place, when in Luna, Apayao and vicinty.

This place was highly recommended by friends who stayed three weeks earlier. And my friend actually helped me book when I decided to go to Apayao for adventure.
The friendly owner, Josefina, gave me instructions via phone on how to find the lodge. And I made arrangements for dinner as I was arriving in the evening.
Dinner was a pleasant surprise. Crabs, adobo, sea weed salad, and bananas for dessert. To think I did not know what I was going to have for dinner, this was such a treat after a very long drive to this northern province.
I was ushered to my room, admittedly their best room. For P1,000 a night, the room had a queen-sized bed, a single bed, and a ready mattress in case the occupants would be more. I am not sure about the price if I had company in the room. But I was told that my friends, a group of 8, stayed in a family room at P2,400 a night.
The room had airconditioning, towels and toiletries. A nice clean bed and a blanket.
I understand they have cheaper "homestay" accommodations.
The best thing about this place is the way the owner and the staff treats its guests. The friends I made there, visitors also on an Apayao adventure, all felt the same way, when we were having drinks in the restaurant. In fact we said we insist that they do not do up the place into anything fancy. Basic is perfect. Especially suits the personality of its adventurous, no-frills guests.
I would have rated the place excellent, 5 stars, but then other readers might think I am exaggerating. Thus just 4 stars even if the place, warts and all, is perfect for the visit.
If one visits Apayao, one must stay 2 nights at least to explore the beauty of nature in thes province. I did.

The lodge is located in a far away province of Apayao and one can experience a provincial feel as you can imagine. Here you can still hear the crisp chirping of the birds, the joy of watching the fishes in the fishpond, breathe the clean air of the rice farm around, experience the hospitality of the people in and out of the lodge and so on. At the same time, you will not be disappointed with the amenities as there are airconditioned rooms with hot and cold shower, lots of clean towels, a 100 peso meal for sinigang na sugpo with pink salmon plus more, an unlimited rice and coffee and a very generous hostess.
Nakakatuwa pa, when asked what we want for the next day's lunch and they suggested for a native tinola which we agreed on, they immediately got a chicken in their resting place in a tree within the compound. Di ba nice, its a free range chicken in the truest sense of the word.
Star Jewel Lodge is the best place to rest after an awesome and extreme adventure in all the stunning and splendid rock formations, caves, rivers, et.al. this Apayao offers.
