The 24-hectare coral island, located on the Southeastern tip of Cebu, is home to Bluewater Sumilon. Pristine white sand beaches abound. Its sandbar is known for its changing shapes and shifting locations around the island, depending on the season. There is a natural lagoon teeming with high mangroves. On the south side, a lighthouse rests on a protected tree park and a "Baluarte", a 19th century historical watchtower. It is also home to the Philippines' first marine sanctuary. At Bluewater Sumilon, let the islander's easy-going friendliness shine through and keep the pace low-key enough to let you feel pampered.

Always read reviews. I didn’t for this one for it was highly recommended by a friend. My fault.

I was really looking forward, in fact I was super excited for this trip since I’ve heard of the gentle giants/butanding, what could have been a great vacation for me turned out to be a disaster, I had 100+ bites I when I woke up on our 2nd day. I had never in my entire life been bitten with this amount. I had taken every precaution I can think of to tick away the bugs since I know that I attract insect/bugs. I even showed the crew my bites; he said it might be jellyfish.

The island and the resort have a charm in it if they had maintained it. I would have recommended it if it was preserved. It was very serene and peaceful but…
The room badly needs improvement as mentioned by most reviews (w/c I just read now). They need to update everything. They are adding up new cabins (currently constructing) instead of updating the old ones. On high tide you can appreciate the cabin area since it covers the dead corals. Pool needs lot of scrubbing. Pictures can be deceiving.

The area of the beach and dead corals has a lot of trash, it’s a shame they don’t attend to it. Unlimited kayaking but limited to a small lake? How can you even admire the beauty if you’re confined to that area? I understand the risk/safety precaution but hey they should hire MORE crew to serve as a lifeguard. I would not risk going beyond my limits. Badly need a manager to organize everything!

I personally love the crew from the dinning (kudos William - the running man); although they were unmanned they tried their best to attend to your needs.
I would return to oslob for the butanding and tumalog falls but not for sumillon island.

Lastly, cliché as it may sound, foreigner’s got a welcome visit at the dock by the information attendant, bags we’re being carried while we had to ask for a drink while we wait. Aren’t we paying the same???

advertised and priced as an exclusive high end island resort. what they hide from the website and brochures is that the resort is OPEN TO PUBLIC from 8am-5pm and high foot traffic traversing areas supposedly exclusive for checked in guests only. nothing private or exclusive nor peaceful considering prices we paid. must demand for senior citizen discount on ALL as this is not willingly given even if mandated by law. staff friendly but needs additional training in briefing guests . Hotel probably makes more money from day trip guests maxing at about 400 guests a day during the peak time

I was really excited for my stay at the Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort because of the fact that there is only one single resort on the whole island. That’s a huge private island! And I didn’t get disappointed. Throughout the entire time I was really impressed by the resort, staff, rooms and food.

First of all you check in on the mainland before a ship brings you to the private island. Unfortunately, we just missed the boat by not even five minutes. So we had to wait one and a half hours for the next one. We took that time to check in, enjoy our welcome drink, talk to the staff and work a bit because there’s also pretty fast Wi-Fi.

After arriving on the island a nice man showed us our Premier Deluxe Room with a fantastic panoramic view of the stunning southern Cebu mountain range. The room is big, comes with two queen sized beds, a desk, TV and a sofa. The private veranda outside is also nice. The bathroom is also nice designed and comes with everything you need.

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to stay two nights at their Honeymoon Villa. The villas are located on the cliffs of the island, comes with its own private pool and garden. It is just stunning! The bathroom is huge and has its own door to the outside. Wi-Fi is just okay at both room types.

We had full board to enjoy every single meal of the day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are buffet and really delicious. The staff recognizes you and is really friendly. We joked a lot with them.

You can hike around the island, go kayaking, snorkeling or get a SUP. The island also has a sandbar which is really popular for guests who don’t stay on the island. The sandbar doesn’t always have the same size during different seasons. There’s also high and low tide so make sure to get there when it’s the most beautiful. We snorkeled there two days in a row and it was pretty amazing.

The pool has a fantastic view over the ocean. I highly recommend you to look at my pictures to get an idea how beautiful it is. Unfortunately, there aren’t so many sun beds at the pool. It’s pretty crowded.

I’d love to come back one day to this great resort. I really enjoyed my stay.

We booked 2 glamping tents overnight for myself and 3 girlfriends looking to relax. First of all they did not honor my discount voucher which came with the booklet for becoming a Bluewaters member, which was fine as i did my booking on www.booking.com, apparently you have to book this through their Indulgence office, which was not explained to me. Nevermind that, i will overlook that, even if 70% is a huge discount.

The stress mainly was that they don't explain the Full Board package and poor coordination of info in reception, which makes it hard to relax, having to check on status all the time.

So this is basically what happened:

Arrive Saturday: check in is 3 pm (a bit late, no? check out is 11 am too. early, no?) so we hang around til we are given our glamping tents. tents not so glam so we opted for a change to one room instead, aircon necessary for the heat on the island. we chill on the beach for a few hours.

5:15 pm we get our airconditioned room. we take our stuff from glamp site (please note that this is only a few steps down by the beach, but if you order anything (as in, room service) they charge 10% "delivery" fee, which is ridiculous

we have a relatively okay evening. staff at restaurant nice enough to sing and deliver the birthday cake i requested for my girlfriend.

Sunday check out was a headache - as i checked the bill, we were charged FULL for both glamping tents, and FULL again for the one night in the room. We literally only put our bags in the tent, did not avail of the snacks, did not even lie in the beds. I had explained this to the receptionist Saturday night and we had come to an agreement that i would only be charged for an upgrade. I thought it was sorted. Thats the annoying part - i had already arranged all this the previous night with the receptionist, but Sunday morning was ANOTHER receptionist, so i had to break down the events again and negotiate again and basically narrate everything from the previous day all the arrangements agreed upon with the other girl, all while rushing to make the banca trip back to Oslob. There was no turn over of info or any sort of endorsement, it seemed. I also had to review my receipts since we were charged for meals that were supposed to be part of the Full Board package, etc etc.... If i was mindless i would have just paid, given the rush to make the banca boarding time. This was all very very stressful.

What was supposed to be a leisure stay was pretty much an exercise in STRESS.

Its not like we could up and leave when faced with all the inconvenience: i mean, this is an ISLAND, we were pretty much stuck there, leaving little or no room for "back up plans" or alternative hotels. the island IS the hotel, and i honestly felt like they bank on this fact and do not truly make efforts for the stay to be a hassle free experience for their guests/members! Disappointing. I left relieved to be headed back to the city, which is sad.

Never again, Sumilon Bluewater.

I always refrain from writing negative reviews about any establishment, but I think this experience is so noteworthy that I have to make an exception.

How to get there: Sumilon Island is within the town of Oslob. Oslob is a three and a half hour bus ride from Cebu City. My partner and I took the public bus which cost roughly 155PhP or 4USD. This was a mistake as the trip could have been cut at least an hour shorter if we took a private car or a hired a taxi. The resort has its own dock and their own boat that takes you from mainland Cebu to the island and vice-versa within 15 minutes. This boat has a schedule that works around 1hour-2hour intervals within the day. 50% of the time, this boat leaves later than the scheduled time. (I've only taken it 4 times and it was late twice) This was the cause of one of the biggest mishaps that happened during my stay.

The place: The island is gorgeous. They orient you before you get to the island. Food was pretty good and reasonably priced, staff were nice. (or so I thought) Pool, restaurant, spa facilities are available. There is a white sand beach that you can share with day-trippers, and another beach that is completely private to resort guests. They offer a lot of activities, you can trek around the island, and a mere 15 minute boat ride away was the whaleshark watching area. Needless to say, it was a great place where I would willingly have paid more to stay longer.

Rooms: The rooms are spacious with old furniture and interiors. Some rooms were being remodeled during our stay so this may well improve soon. The room had a nice patio that faced the sea. It was gorgeous.

The horrible experience happened upon check-out. We requested for late check out, and were even willing to pay the fee. Most reputable resorts and hotels usually grant this as there are some cases when it is absolutely necessary. We were after all late for our activity in mainland Oslob because their boat left an hour later than it was scheduled. We proceeded to our activity anyway not knowing how poorly they will be dealing with the situation.

When we arrived at our room 2hours late from check-out time, it was empty and cleaned out, ready for the next guests. All our belongings were unhygienically packed in a plastic garbage bag. Shoes, clothes, toothbrushes, toiletries, cameras all put together and dumped at the reception area. How amazing, I did not know that they had an extra packing service available!

It was the first leg of our holiday and I refuse to ruin it with a burst of anger in a room full of strangers. I let it go, merely mentioning that i was not happy to be paying 9,500 pesos for a room in resort where we are being shooed away like animals. I paid for it anyway and left.

After my trip, I sent them a complaint and was replied to quickly. I believe I was being diplomatic this way. They apologized and said that they will get back to me once they have settled the issue with their employees. It has been a week now and I have yet to hear from them.

Needless to say, it was a lawsuit waiting to happen as soon as they packed my things without my consent. I have never been humiliated like this in my entire life and by an establishment that should be providing a relaxing holiday.

We booked the island discovery package for our group and got a little disappointed with the full-board meals - we thought the food was not worth the price and wished we should've just booked the regular package. But apart from that, I thought everything was satisfactory. They got spacious deluxe rooms with ocean view and queen-sized beds (maybe it's time to upgrade that TV), a sandbar, a snorkeling area, a lagoon for kayakking, a trail for trekking, and the accommodating staff. Oh, and the breathtaking views...

I just hope they'll offer a drop-off and pick-up service from the main road to the receiving area and vice-versa. It's a bit of a trek going up the main road with heavy luggages.
Also, I told the manager it would be nice to have an omelette station and better selection for breakfast.

You can go see the whalesharks and tumalog falls as a side trip. The resort's boat transfers are free if you go within the regular schedule. There are also tricycle drivers from the mainland who are willing to offer a ride but be very cautious and try to haggle because some of them charge quite high and take advantage! (It cost us 500 pesos for the ride from sumilon to the resort for butanding watching, vice versa)

Don't go to Sumilon looking for a place to party. It's a quiet island that's perfect for relaxation and quality time with family and friends.

I love this nice, clean, beautiful, and peaceful resort. The rooms and it's bathroom are big and spacious with high ceiling. The ala carte choice food is nice but limited, and the food price is acceptable for a resort i would personally rate it a good 4 stars although they don't have buffet, me and my girlfriend feel that the room rates should, and can be adjusted lower. Beer, alcohol, food, drinks bought outside is not allow to bring on board the ferry to the island, as the resort itself have those for you to patronise but at a higher price. So you have to either finish it or let the staff keep it for you at the pier house until your return day where you can collect it back at the same pier from the staff. But me and my girlfriend have a really happy good drinking and partying time at night in our room during our 2 nights stay at the resort ha ha, you friends figure it out yourself how ha ha. The sea waters are clear, good for snorkeling and diving and the surrounding is tranquil, unspoiled and beautiful. You can go kayaking as well. But most importantly, the management should take action immediately to clean up the disgusting unsightly rubbish, debris washed ashore along the beach near the beach house for borrowing life jacket, aqua shoe, snorkeling gear. It cost $3500 peso per car trip for us to take the 3 hours car journey arranged by the resort to take us from the airport directly to the pier where we take a free 20 min ferry to sumilon blue island resort. We seriously also hope the management can arrange a pier near the airport for guest to take a ferry directly to sumilon island the next time instead of the long car journey, before we plan and consider our next trip to sumilon in june again.

the long hours travel from the city, didn't bother us that much since we are too excited for the superb resort we will be relishing for a day trip. as we arrived to their main port, the staffs there accommodated us very well. then we landed the main island of sumilon! to our dismay, it wasn't really what we expected.the infinity pool is nice even the dining area but the food is not delicious, the comfort rooms are not so clean as well as the kayaks, there were a lot of fallen leaves on the white sand, the chairs on the beachfront were kept down on the tables which just caught my attention since they don't bother to organize it well even if there were a lot of guests in the resort. there were big waves so we ain't had the chance to experience the blue waters! the resort has the potential but it ain't that well established yet.
the service was good, i can salute to that yet the facilities didn't go well with that.
we just had to stay by the pool and thank God there is wifi to at least drive our disappointment from great anticipation! since it was me who chose this resort from my colleagues in manila, it was a bad deal to remember!
i just hope the management can find ways to develop their resort since it has really a good potential.

A small island with partly white sand.
Breathtaking Scenery, great for trekking and checking the whole island, Kayaking in the river.
Nice Swimming Pool and the Sorrounding is astonishing.
Food - Average because they serve the usual food like fried chicken, pork chop etc. Hardly any seafoods.

sumilon was where we had our mini-moon.
the difference of our mini-moon was we brought my mother-in-law with us.
I wanted a resort that would show my korean MIL how beautiful Philippine beaches are.
Boracay is the place to go but it's too crowded and noisy there.
Needed a beach that was beautiful yet relaxing and secluded.
Found Sumilon by chance.
It was great!
The food was good not so much choices but they all were cooked well.
The rooms were big, which actually looked like a casita because of the size. The room had a tv, a dvd player, 2 queen size beds, a rain shower, aircon, a refrigerator with snacks ans drinks, a veranda with a table and chairs with the view of the beach.
The island itself was small, and you can't directly go to the shore from your room, because it actually was sort of a cliff.
but you can take a short buggy ride to the short. the sand there is perfect. white and thin.
the water was very blue and clear.
for times when we didn't swim in the beach, we swam in the infinite pool and enjoyed the jacuzzi, we trekked with a guide (this was scheduled), kayaked, got massages, we borrowed and played with boardgames, we had yummy pizzas and fruit shakes in the veranda and we borrowed dvds from their library and watched it in the room.
the only thing i didn't appreciate was the minibar. there was no price list, and i asked the staff if the things there were free, they said that there snacks were free so my husband ate some of the chips. when we checked out on the last morning, they charged me for the minibar items.
didn't mind paying, but it was just irritating that they said it was free when it was not.
one room is big enough for 4.
there are 2 airports you can use, 1st is the mactan airport ad the other one is the dumaguete. the one is mactan takes -2 to 3 hours by car. 30 minutes from dumaguete.
i would have wanted the shorter car ride, of course, but the flight schedule in mactan was better.

Depend on your budget. If you want a cheaper way. Ride a MyBus from airport to SM City, taxi from SM City to South Bus Terminal. Ceres bus from South Bus Terminal to Oslob (Sumilon Port)
