Be careful if you book here, they literally lied to us. We went to check in and the Manager told me that someone from our travel agency had called and asked them to upgrade us so he 'moved' us from a two bedroom tent into two separate tents(??). I told him that we are traveling with a 13 year old boy, and do you think I would want two tents and to have him in one by himself out there?? I told him there is no way anyone from our travel group would have called to ask for this as they know there is no way I would want it. It was a lie. He remained fixed to his 'call' story and I was not believing it. We went and looked at the two tents and there was no way I was going to do that. I told him that I did not want to call him a liar, but I did not believe his story. I asked him to call the 'person' that called him so I could speak to him and he would not, he said he would go back to reservations. I told him we paid for and were confirmed for a two bedroom tent, and that is what we want and expected. He was obviously full of crap and did not have a two bedroom for us, as he probably gave it away and was trying to spin it off and it just infuriated me. If something happened, then just be honest with me and offer me solutions. We ended up coming to a compromise, after he offered us another option and a 'free' Dune Ride that I had already paid for and have not been refunded for. The maybe owner or manager came by our table at dinner and while I can appreciate his effort and thought, it was not appropriate to do while I was eating with my family. I was not going to get into it with him in front of my family at dinner. His employee lied to me and I will not forget that. It is unfortunate, as this is an amazing area and the accommodations were nice (thus a 2 rating), but it should not have been this hard. Be careful what you book, confirm it, show up earlier to ensure you can get your room and book your activities.…
The Desert Nights Camp is reached after 10 km offroad (4x4 required). The resort is well kept and managed, all staff we interacted with were professional and helpful. We only stayed one night which was enough to get a glimpse of the desert, some other travelers stayed longer, using it as a base to visit some other sights such as the Wadi Bani Khalid. Prices in general at the resort are high if not very high for the activities.
Spent 1 night with my family. A quick 7 km drive from the town. Very comfortable tent. Hot in April during the day. Wide choice of food at dinner buffet and very good breakfast. We arrived at 14pm and relaxed in our tent, then we did desert drive with our guide late afternoon (17pm) and we had a great fun. Staff is very helpful. Didn't try the morning camel ride (included). One of the highlight of our trip in Oman.
Very beautiful location at the desert. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. They drove us up to a dune so we could enjoy the sunset. In the morning we could go for a short camel ride. Both activities were included in the price that we had to pay for the room. Dinner was very good. We recommend to go to the Desert Night Camp and enjoy your time.
Difficult to find as there are a lack of signs. The last 11 km is on sand with no clear marks as to which is the road. Super "tents" with only the roof canvas. Very comfortable with a very modern shower room and comfortable bedroom and lounge. Meals are taken in a modern restaurant on site and the food is very good. The highlight for me was being taken up an almost vertical dune in a 4 X 4 to view sunset. This was included in the price as was a short camel ride. Beautifully quiet except for the birds early in the morning!
