This hotel was a top notch boutique hotel with amazing service. From the noment of arrival til we left we experienced too class accomodation and service with a personal smile. Hotel is just z few minutes walk to a secluded beautiful beach. With bar, assorted chair types and sarongs and snorkeling equipment provided complimentary if you chose, this was a lovely spot to spend the day. So relaxing. The hotel pool was equally lovely, but without sea breeze a little hot. One criticism idhave was the limited loungers however i think the beach was the cooler option. Food here was lovely. We hadbreakfadt inclidex each day, vadtchoices and excellently presented. Dinner one evening equally delicious. We had abasic pavlova suite yet thd outside space, showers and seating areas within were super comfy. As were the large luxurious beds and linen . Thehotel provides afreedrying service andwater fladt andbeach bag to take with you to the bay. Top-notch seevice at reception as withwauters and house keeping. We would recommend and return. Wonderful way to finish our 3 week trip to Costa Rica. Thankyou Hotel Aguas Claras..you were amazing.

I'm a crier, but I don't often cry upon leaving vacation because I'm usually ready to be home. Leaving Hotel Aquas Claras today, I'm crying. First of all, any place can be beautiful, but what truly stands out is how the people there make you feel. Every single person here made us feel known, welcome, and special. We travel extensively and have never encountered a more pleasant team of wait staff, groundskeepers, front desk staff, and housekeepers. One server, who was just a week in, learned our names immediately and used them regularly. He didn't have much experience with the espresso machine, but practiced to make a cappuccino for me with a design in it. Loved that! The grounds.... natural beauty abounds! And we were in our own rainforest jungle bungalow that was appointed with unique little luxuries like body scrub, reusable water bottles, umbrellas, beach bags, and nightly turn down service with treats. The bed was so comfortable and the decor, exquisite. The restaurants were wonderful, featuring a large selection of unique, fresh options. Tacos by the beach at Delime and cocktails on a sofa then dinner at Papaya was our favorite routine. For breakfast, the daily fresh mixed juices were delish! Gorgeous beaches, unique art everywhere, close to all the local shops and restaurants, howler monkeys, sloths, lizards, butterflies, toucans and other birds, great excursion options- it's all right there. Couldn't ask for anything more.

Thank you for this wonderful review. Now you almost made us cry. You found the best of Aguas Claras in its installations, nature and people. We loved having you stay with us. Please come back soon. Did you know that mid-August to early November is the best time of the year to visit the Caribbean Coast. It is our dry season here. Thank you for your visit and a big hug from all of us at Aguas Claras.

The small resort is one of the nicest places we’ve stayed, and we’ve traveled the Caribbean extensively. The grounds are beautiful and are well maintained. Service is great and food is good but not great. That being said there a few items one should know: 1. The hotel is not directly on the beach. It is a good 5 -10 minute walk down a gravel road and path. 2. Ocean is rough in February and March and difficult to swim although it’s great if like surfing and boogie boarding. September and October is much calmer. (Which we prefer) 3. Beach is nothing great with drinks and lunch served at Beach Club. Not much privacy with people coming and going all day long. Lots of dogs. 4. Excessive road noise can be heard at pool and restaurant. Reserve a room away from road such Cacao. Probably won’t be coming back any time soon.

Thank you for your visit to Aguas Claras. We appreciate you taking the time to leave this review with great recommendations. You are right, the best time of the year to visit is between late August and early November. That is the dry season at the Caribbean Coast. Februrary and March are more for surfing, but most of our guests still enjoy that experience. As you might know, all beaches in Costa Rica are public and, on the weekends, they can get busy with locals. But overall, our little Dalime Beach Club is very secluded and special. And thanks for the heads-up about the noise fromthe road. Your room recommendation is great. Cacao is probably our best bungalow. We hope you consider coming back again in the dry season. Thanks again and all the best from sunny Puerto Viejo.

Per recommendation of a costa rican friend we booked two nights in this boutique hotel. While the price per night is on the upper level, we didn’t regret for a minute to come here. A restaurant, a bar at the beach and perfect service made this an unforgettable stay. A surprising feature, all communication across the property and all matters happened very conveniently via whatsapp. Top.

Thank you, Ann, for choosing Aguas Claras for your vacation. We are glad that your Costa Rica friend recommended us as the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica and Aguas Claras are still not quite as well-known as other destinations. Thank you for all the praise on our guest service and we are especially excited that you noted our focus on sustainability. Please come back soon or visit any of our Cayuga Collection sister hotels in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama.

This is truly the most unique family safe hotel with excellent food and private beach in the area. We noticed that the local jungle wildlife is a part of the experience and within a short walking distance from the Jaguar Rescue Center. Don't forget to book the Caribe Horse Riding Tour at the front desk, or in advance for day one, to find your favorite jungle (Pura Vida!) beach during the tour. Cheers to the Caribbean!

We asked a girl about a service and she answered us very rudely that she did not see guests and that she only saw employee matters. Apparently her name was Maria. I understand that she could have had a bad day but that is no reason to take it out on the guests.

We take the feedback from our guests very seriously. We admit when we make a mistake and work hard to correct it. We carefully checked our records to look for a guest who might have written this review but did not find anything that would match. We asked TripAdvisor to remove the review as we strongly suspect that it was written by somebody who wants to do harm to our reputation. Maria is our human resources manager and the sweetest person you will ever meet. She does not wear a name tag and is usually not in contact with guests as she does not speak English. But if she ever runs into a guest, she will do anything to help him or her. Ask to meet her on your next stay with us. Greetings from Puerto Viejo.

We had two rooms here for five nights: a bungalow (Kua Kua) and one of the Pavlova Sweets rooms (Tropicana). Our teenage/young adult children stayed in Kua Kua so they could have separate beds and we stayed in the cheaper room. Kua Kua was so dark (nothing like the pictures on the website, which must have been floodlit for the photo) that I didn't think it was worth the extra money. The hotel is small but they have thought of everything in the rooms - from beach bags and water bottles to wet bags for clothes to be dried (needed as it rained a lot during our stay) and really good toiletries. The outdoor showers in both rooms were beautiful and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The beach is small with only a few (very comfy) mattress-type sunbeds; I was expecting European-style loungers and umbrellas but it was much more rustic. The beach is beautiful however, not crowded at all in August and good cocktails were available from the beach bar. We only did a dolphin-spotting trip during our stay as this was the relaxing part of our trip; we had to wait out the rain in a very rustic part of the reserve but we saw lots of dolphins with a lovely guide. The food in the hotel was very good for breakfast and lunch, not so good (and very quiet) in the evening. Puerto Viejo is very backpacker touristy so slim pickings foodwise, although we stumbled upon the Black & White restaurant which was great. I'd recommend Aguas Claras but perhaps ask for a light room away from the road.

Thank you very much for your stay with us and we appreciate the feedback very much. You are right. Almost every room at Aguas Claras is different and unique. Aguas Claras was built and designed by a mother-daughter team, both of them artists. For sure Kuakua is one of the rooms with the least natural light, but there is a lovely outdoor bathroom in the back. We actually just finished the building of two new Premium Two Bedroom Bungalows flooded with light and featuring their own plunge pools. Thank you also for the feedback on the food. Our guests typically really enjoy the culinary experience, just like you did at breakfast and lunch, so we will check on what happened with dinner. We will also review your other comments and make a big effort to improve. Pura vida.

We stayed at Aguas Claras for five nights with ten family members. We rented the largest bungalow- Casa Floralia. Everything exceeded expectations- the privacy, service, food, and secluded beach! The staff are attentive, friendly and fun. The food is spectacular- breakfasts are incredible- many options that will help you start your day on the right track. They also helped us book several local activities and arranged transportation. Can’t wait to go back. pura vida🇨🇷

The grounds were impeccable, but the staff was even better. Though all the staff was stupendous, we absolutely enjoyed Arriet, Leandro, Rodrigo and Jonny. Their customer service was beyond compare. We will never forget our stay there in Puerto Viejo. The town is unparalleled. We definitely prefer the Caribbean side. We will be back.

Our family of 4 truly enjoyed our stay at Aguas Claras. We stayed in the Coral bungalow which was perfect for our family. The only downside to the bungalow was bees were attracted to the lights at night but if you didn’t have the lights on bats would come and leave droppings. This was a nature issue, not sure what the hotel could do about it. Other than the bees at night, we really didn’t see other bugs which was fantastic since we felt like we were staying in a beautiful beach house in the jungle right next to the beach! We loved the staff, everyone was friendly and very accommodating. The food was the best hotel food we’ve ever had! We also loved spending time at the beach by the hotel, it was close enough but far enough away we felt safe. The pool was also fantastic, beautiful, and clean. We did visit downtown PV, great shopping (don’t miss Luna May) and great food. The hotel offers bikes which you can use to visit town or the other beaches however, I found the main road to be too busy to want to bike on. Overall we had a fantastic stay at Aguas Claras and we will be back!

Thank you for spending your family vacation with us. We are thrilled to hear that you had such a great time at our hotel and Puerto Viejo in general. We will see what we can do about the bees without using harmful chemicals that would harm our gardens and all the animals that live there. Thanks for all the great comments on food, room, and especially service. Please come back soon. From late August to early November is the best time to visit the Caribbean of Costa Rica. It is our dry season while the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica has its wet season. We hope to see you again real soon.
