Detailed Reviews
From the minute we pulled into reception. Extremely friendly staff, rooms are pristine white, comfortable, quiet, restaurant well priced and very flavorful, breakfast was outstanding with omelets fresh fruit and meats. Pools so comfortable. Easy access to other well known beach and town. Would recommend more hooks in bathroom to hang wet suites and towels. Highly recommend.

This cute hotel is tucked into the rainforest right off the main road through Puerto Viejo and is surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers. The rooms are clean and well stocked. The dining options are great at Noa or any of the little restaurants close by. La Nena Caribbean food was a short walk down the road, so yummy! Johnny’s in town is another restaurant where you can dine overlooking the beach. The jungle tour is a must! So many interesting things we totally would have missed had we not gone. We enjoyed our short ride down to Playa Uva where the beach is gorgeous. You can easily find kayaks and snorkel items to rent for pretty cheap. The pools and beachfront by the hotel are breathtaking as well.

My husband, 9 yr. old daughter and I stayed at the property for 4 nights and had the most exceptional stay!
Right from the time I made reservations, Aramis the reservations manager was very prompt in answering my queries and arranged a surprise for us when we checked into our rooms.
Additionally, Jamal - The restaurant supervisor checked in with us on Day 1 to make sure our dietary requirements were taken care as my husband is vegetarian. The food at beach club had a good variety and pricing reasonable.
All the staff in the hotel very responsive and helpful , good with recommendations. We also did a Yoga class which was so relaxing!
Highly recommend this property especially if travelling with children as it is very family friendly and bound to meet other families with kiss. Also, having 2 pools and beach access makes it a memorable family vacay spot :)

The staff who took our bags on arrival were helpful and friendly however the same can’t be said for the gentleman who booked us in who seemed disinterested and certainly wasn’t welcoming. While the idea of bright white rooms with a dash of colour which is changed every day seems novel in reality the rooms seem tired and dated. The facilities for a junior suite are well below standard eg no iron or ironing board and a very poor quality coffee maker that makes two cups and that is all the supplies you receive for the day. In the in house restaurant NOA is in an amazing setting however the menu is limited and it is ridiculously overpriced for food and drink.

It's a very "instagrammable" place - especially the giant sign out front, the beautiful jungle boardwalk, and the NOA beach club entrance and pool. However, beyond the veneer lies a number of problems.
Maintenance is poor. We had a suite with a rain shower head from the ceiling that went right into a large (non working) hot tub. There was a hand shower attached, but didn't work. We would have been fine with this but the shower head from the ceiling wouldn't stay on. It required a button to be pushed in as well as the handle to be set to on. Each time I showered I would have to figure out a number of ways to keep it on. Otherwise it felt like I was at one of those camp showers where the button would get pushed in and slowly would pop out as a way to save water. I don't know if that was the intention here but it was very frustrating and almost caused me to check out early (except I realized I had prepaid and had no way of getting my money back).
The sliding door dividing the bedroom and living room wouldn't fully close.
The bathroom doors (both the half bath in the living room and the full bath in the bedroom) are glass with a frosted stripes that would leave clear gaps so people can see into the bathroom. Realize this is not a two bedroom suite but the suite was advertised as suitable for 3 adults (2 in the bedroom and 1 in the living room sofa bed) so not sure who thought this was a good idea. Whenever the third adult in our party had to shower we had to remind them to not use the toilet or get dressed in the vanity area or we would leave to give them privacy.
One of the buildings is currently being painted. We were not made aware of this and when we arrived we can smell a strong scent. It was so strong that w could not use the pool or jacuzzi during the day. Of course you can also use the pool at the beach club across the street but the jacuzzi was out of the question.
Housekeeping isn't great. I'm not sure what entirely happened here but even though the room is advertised for 3, there were no pillows, blanket or sheets for the sofabed, and we had to also call for a third bath towel. After cleaning for the day, housekeeping took the dirty towels and would leave us with 2 clean towels for whatever reason, even though they can clearly see there were 3 people staying there.
Now on the positive side. Location, beach club and restaurant is great. Wait staff at the beach club attentive. The band they have playing in the evenings is fantastic. Despite what others said in previous reviews, the front desk staff was wonderful, and they dealt with the requests about the sheets, towels and other issues as best as they could. The breakfast is excellent - cooked to order from a small list of options.
We realize the Caribbean side infrastructure isn't as great so it's hard to find nice hotels, but we had really hoped for the price we paid some of these basics would be taken care of. With the exception of the shower issue, I do believe if you go with lower expectations, you will be fine.

We checked in at 2 pm, but our room wasn't ready, and staff said they would make it a priority. However, we got our room as late as 3 30 pm. There was a confusion with our room, because staff said we were assigned to room 65, but they gave us room 66, which let to a series of problems, one being a guy from the hotel opening our door in the middle of the night because our room had been assigned to someone else, too. The next day, our bathroom door wasn't working, so we intended to call reception, but there was no phone whatsoever, so we had to go tell them. Also there are some remodeling and construction works going on, so there's noice all around the hotel all day long. Forget about resting and sleeping.
Loud music at the beach club is not necessary nor pleasant, since at the beach you look forward to enjoying listening to the sound of the ocean and animals.

We were so excited for our stay at Le Cameleon, but were extremely disappointed. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at during our entire time in Costa Rica. At $500 per night, which is a hefty price tag in any part of the world, we thought we would get a truly luxurious experience. It was not. Our room was more like a motel room than a hotel room. The walls were paper thin. We could hear people talking outside, our neighbors flushing their toilets, alarm clocks in the neighboring rooms, the people upstairs moving furniture. The room was outdated and just not what you expect for the price tag. Having traveled throughout Costa Rica, we knew what we could get for this price point, and Le Cameleon simply did not deliver. For example, we stayed at the Umami Hotel in Puerto Viejo, in a huge and gorgeous super modern and stylish suite, for a third of the price of Le Cameleon! And we stayed at the super lux Makanda in Manuel Antonio paying less for a suite than we did at Le Cameleon for a “deluxe” room, which had nothing “deluxe” about it.
To make matters worse, they denied us service at the restaurant, even though we were hotel guests (again, paying $500 per night) because they had two large tables and the kitchen was busy (although there were many empty tables). Any good hotel would have accommodated us and offered a drink while we waited- not flat out refused service. We asked for towels at the pool and they told us to walk across the street to reception--not the service you expect for this price point.. It rained while we were there and the pool chairs got really wet. No one came to dry them when the rain stopped (or even the day after), making it impossible for anyone to enjoy the pool—again, not the service you expect for this price point.
To give credit where credit is due, the grounds and the pools are really nice. The breakfast is also good. But that is the extent of it. Save your money and stay elsewhere.

I have to be honest, I’m not sure where all the positive reviews come from. The only thing 4-5 stars about this hotel is the staff. They were kind, hardworking and attentive, but that is the case for all of the people in Costa Rica. The hotel itself is a dump! We had horrible plumbing and very little water pressure and the rooms are sub standard, especially taking into account what you pay. The property is beautiful and they should do better. No amount of white paint can cover up the flaws.

Pretty disappointing. We had booked a superior room and were given a lower room without compensation or explanation - on the highway. We had black mold in the room from aircon resulting in smell and allergy. As well as prolonged illness.
Attempting to relax by the pool we had horrendous music banging from the speakers and when finally we managed to get it turned off the other guests applauded us. Food was average at best at exorbitant prices, limited menu.
Don’t recommend staying there. In particular at the prices they charge!

Do yourself a favour and Star at this hotel. This place is absolutely fantastic with anazing stuff, super spacious rooms and cosy beds. The attention to details and tidyness in the hotel is exeptional. The variety and freshness of breakfast is wonderful.
We were lucky to meet the owner- such a warm and kind person - who gave us lots of insider tips and made our stay most pleasant and memorable.

Hello, the Restaurant and Bar is open to everybody’s, as well as the Beach Club but the pools are exclusive for guests, we can make an exception according with the occupancy, if there is not many people we allow external guests.
Sure, there is a bike rental close to the hotel, just 10 meters far.
Beach is in front of the hotel and all rooms have air conditioning
I fish but didn't didn't fish there. The surf was very high all week. I don't know if that is usual or not, but I also didn't see anybody fishing.
It’s about a 4 hr drive by Interbus ( you can book online) or slightly less if you drive yourself. There are local flights from San Jose to Limon and buses from Limon to Puerto Viejo.
