We just came back from Phuket where we have spent a few days together with our family at the Kata Palm Resort & Spa. Living in Thailand since 3 years now we should have known it better not to go to Phuket during peak season but as our family came from overseas we have decided to join them for some days.
On the pictures the hotel looks quite nice and especially the pool area got lots of positive comments. In reality the hotel looks worn out, the rooms (in the older buildings) would need a renovation and the service some improvement.
The breakfast offer is ok but it can happen that you have to get your coffee yourself, that they ran out of ham or that some of the table wear is just missing.
The pool would be nice in case you manage to get one of the few sunbeds in time. We are early birds but even at 07.30AM some of the sunbeds were already reserved by placing towels. Haven't seen that in any other hotel in Thailand so far.
To Kata beach you have to cross a main street and it will take you around 10 minutes walking which is acceptable in case you will manage to get a sunbed there but the hotel is also providing a transfer service to/from the beach.
I was quite disappointed by the route staff at the reception when asking for a confirmation of the refund of my deposit payment. Only after some discussion I have managed to get such confirmation which should be a standard process like in any other hotel.
All in all we had a good time together with our family but I would like to highly recommend the management to improve the overall service (Thailand is famous for its great hospitality) and to renovate the rooms, especially those of the older buildings!

This is a long one and I’m sorry if it sounds moany, but we left so deflated as this had been planned for ages and I booked it as a surprise for my partner to spend Christmas there…

On arrival the lobby area was breathtaking. We received a warm welcome and were equally as pleased when we were taken to our stunning pool access room. At check in we overheard another guest angrily complaining that his air con was “still broken” but ours appeared to be fine so we were very relieved.

The bed was huge and comfy, room spotlessly clean, bathroom great and all the amenities you would expect. We were smiling from ear to ear. If I'm honest with you, I sobbed because I was so happy.

We were planning on extending our 4 night stay to a week or more, but unfortunately we didn't end up staying longer because it went downhill not just because of the excursion detailed below, but because of how the customer service changed.

Concierge arranged an excursion which costs a small fortune. We were meant to be taken to 4 different places. The quad bike place they took us to had a swaying elephant chained up in a tiny enclosure, the buggy buckles didn’t work so I nearly fell out; it was unsafe and I hurt my arm but hey, I put it down to being an adventure! The people were wonderful, but we got 10 minutes at the Big Buddha and the whole experience wasn't great. After a quick trip to a beautiful temple, we asked to go back to the hotel as it just wasn’t the one . The concierge lady asked how it went and was mortified to hear of our poor experience and was very apologetic. She spent a great deal of time helping us arrange a motorbike so she needs recognition for that.

Anyway, our bedroom aircon continuously broke after the first few hours of being there so we had spoken too soon. They came to try and fix it but they couldn't which was extremely frustrating. The staff got so annoyed with us asking if they could try again. We had to ask for a bucket of ice because everything in our room, including our drinks, were boiling. We sat outside and had a drink with 2 ice cubes in each drink and when I went back in to refill the ice, it had all completely melted, that's how hot it was in our room. At check out the staff showed little empathy in our issues and to be clear, we didn't want to hold back any money and were paying in full, but we did take exception for them charging us for the bucket of ice which completely melted within half an hour. We also got charged for mosquito spray which we didn’t even take. We just paid and left. Oh and one evening we went to the restaurant out front and waited 40 minutes for 2 drinks and after an hour and a half, we chased our dinner only to be told they didn’t have all the ingredients so we cancelled out order and went next door.

Some of the staff were great (really really great) and some absolutely not. All in all, it was beautiful and the pool AMAZING and whilst I would go back, it would only be for 1 night.

Amazing hotel friendly staff nothing too much trouble. Surroundings of hotel really pretty and tropical. 3 pools 2 with swim up bars and 1 roof top. Restaurant on site 12 til 5pm serving a wide variety of food at great prices. Pool bars serve lovely milkshakes and smoothies as well as cocktails. Breakfast was included and a good selection available.
Rooms large and clean mini bar providing cold drinks as well as drinking water provided daily free of charge. Rooms made up daily fresh towels provided white for the room red to take the pool. Great walk in shower. Lots of plug sockets.
Location perfect 5 min walk to the beach shops and restaurants along the way. Famous 7 Eleven 5 min walk for all snacks and drinks.
Taxis and tuk Tuks outside hotel.
10 min walk from the night market
Overall great hotel

The pillows are rock hard, the food is outrageously made by children who don't know what they're doing in the 1st place. The sewer manholes being located next to the breakfast area is quite frankly disgusting!. Besides all this it has potential to be quite the buzz, friendly staff(could learn a little more English) rooms were serviced in a very tidy manor on an almost daily basis, our view from the room was great, aircon was impressive, shower/bathroom area was nice, the lazy river pool was a godsend for me due to being hungover almost every morning, so it helped with alot of that morning grogyness. On that note the swim up bar could be manned more often especially the one on the far side of the pool(from lobby entry)which was never once manned the entire stay and i was there for 8days/nights.

We had originally booked a different hotel on Kata Beach, which was so disappointing we felt we had to move. Pauline on the front desk was wonderfully helpful, she showed us different rooms available and suggested we try a room in their “modern block” that was built in 2019/2020. The room was modern, clean and well decorated and we were very happy with it, would recommmend asking for a room in the modern block. The pool is really cool, big tropical plants everywhere and it goes on forever. Great location in Kata. Friendly staff. Breakfast was ok, a little basic but ok. All in all would recommend.

Check-in was fine and we were shown to our room on the 1st floor. One section of the corridor was blocked off and by the end of our stay we realised that each room in that portion of the corridor had been upgraded.
We found our room comfortable, but extremely dark and a slight smell of damp/mould. The room was definitely in need of an upgrade, but everything worked fine and we had a comfortable stay nevertheless.
Breakfast was provided, however we did not enjoy it. The tea/coffee were not drinkable (I will drink most things) and I just stuck to eating toast as the rest of the food options did not appeal to me. There was quite a bit of variety which included continental and Asian options.
The pool area was nice, plentiful beds with parasols and the service at the pool bar was fine.
The location of this resort was perfect as it was a 5-10 minute walk to the beach, with a minimart, shops, bars and restaurants located within minutes. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Kata Palm.

I've been here a few days, and there are a number of negative views to dispell.

The staff are nothing other than polite and willing to help. If someone did receive poor service, I can only assume it's a one-off as the checking in, cleaning, breakfast, and bar staff are nothing other than user polite.
The water in the pool is fine. The colour of the tiles does suggest it's not clean, but it is.

Flora and fauna is in the water however all is fine. There are trees and plants around the pool, so it's obvious stuff will drop into the eater however most swimmers throw them to the side and the cleaners go around daily mopping up what is in the water.

The pool area is fine. The pool isn't dirty.

Room (pool access) is excellent. Very spacious, and beds are lovely and comfy (though I concede beds will always draw feedback based on personal requirements)

I also concede that the breakfast is limited, however its not the end of the world, and market food is that cheap. It hardly eats into even the most limited of budgets.

Overall, so far, there isn't anything concerning I've seen that warrants some of the comments about the place on here, though I will post further towards the end of my visit.

I was transferred to Kata Palm Beach Resort after a poor experience at Rawai Palm Beach Resort which is owned by the same parent company. The rooms at the prior hotel had grey stained towels, mold on their pillows, flies swarming the buffet bar and broken electrical outlets. I was unable to cancel the remainder of my stay so, the hotel suggested switching over to Kata Palm Beach.

While in Kata, I left a valuable antique vase (purchased during my travels) in my room which was broken by housekeeping. After trying to contact management, sales and price line multiple times I never received an apology, any attempt at compensation or resolution. Management is non-responsive and did not take accountability.

I would not recommend staying here and would suggest any another hotel on the island that values customer service and guest experience instead.

Watch out.
Reception demand £40 deposit at check in, then try claim everything they can for damage and losses. Make sure you photograph your room condition upon arrival and send them an email. Woe betide your pool towel isn’t back in place at the prescribed time.
We insisted on Visa, not cash, and wouldn’t back down.
Please be warned.

Probably the best resort I ever been in my life.

Big and many options for breakfast, Asian and western food and drinks.

The pool is amazing, big enough and all surrounded by threes and vegetation. Can see animals too like birds, lizards, and unfortunately mosquitos and flies 😅

The room are spacious, provide everything you need: towels, shampoo, body wash and they are clean. If you book the room at the ground floor you have double access, from the main door and from the balcony, and is so pretty with all colourful fishes.

The location is good too, just few hundred metres from beaches, shops and restaurants.

I’ve been to Thailand 4 times but never Phuket. We have booked this hotel b&b 31 July 2021 for 18 nights. Cannot wait. Street food locally looks great and close by, the beach is a short walk away. We didn’t choose a beach front hotel as they were generally more expensive and not very Thai looking.
