This resort was our last option since we couldnt find a good resort in Calatagan .. After searching flr resorts around the area weve decided to stay with Ricky Reyes resort!

This by far as compared to the other places is the average or ok place to stay. It is accredited by the Phil Tourism but its so run down! Its like its being built and then left to rot !

The brochures photos are outdated! The pools growing algae in it! The rooms fairly clean enough thou .. But theres nothing amazing ..

And i probably wouldnt go back to this place..

We booked a deluxe room w/ loft for one night on may 21 (sat) for a family of 4 about a week before that day. When we were about to leave about 9am, the front desk in charge of booking called up and said that our room wasn't available because of rain water dripping from the roof due to frequent heavy rains (yup experienced the heavy rain at night). We were forced to "downgrade" our room to a standard room with 2 extra mattresses so we can fit (so 2 people slept on the floor). We were at first given the price 4270 vs the 4370 of the deluxe. We complained about the price because it was their fault anyway, so they gave us a price of 3800. We accepted it.

When we arrived there, we proceeded to the front desk and got the price they gave us. After that, each group that reserved will have their personal tour in a somewhat touring vehicle. We kinda liked the environment. They have many pools, an outdoor 12th century Chinese pots and ceramics museum, a butterfly garden (which had no butterflies at all) and Jacuzzis (2).

When we arrived in our room, it was kinda small, considering it only for 2 persons. Bathroom was clean, TV, like other reviews, no cable and sucked because there is a cable wire attached to it (btw, language was in Korean and only local channels are shown which are blurred). Rooms by the way are really far from the front desk. A telephone is located outside near a room to call the front desk. Water from the faucet and the pool is salt water as it comes from the sea beside the resort. The sea by the way is not swimmable.

Food was for me, below average. There food is expensive and doesn't taste good at all some even don't have taste.

They don't have an ATM in the resort and they do not accept credit cards so better withdraw in advanced. They have this prepaid cashless payment scheme a.k.a. passport. You let the facility where in you bought something to sign to get the item paid.

They also have a Saturday cultural show, outdoor cinema (no movie because of heavy rains), spa and a big fish pond. You can go fishing but keep your hopes up to catch a big one. Management said fishes are still small. Fishing rod is free to use but fish should be bought per kilo depending on if it is bangus or tilapia.

It's a good thing we were forced into a standard room. Although we saw most deluxe rooms occupied, we wouldn't feel safe if only 2 of us would sleep in the loft at the deluxe because it is OPEN to everyone passing. You might not know while sleeping someone is already there, entrance to loft is outside the room through stairs and I think if the outside temperature is warm, you'll also feel warm because electric fans are the ones cooling the loft excluding the big window.

WiFi access by the way is only at the lobby.

Well despite the bad side, we kinda enjoyed my stay. But I am not sure if we will still book in this resort in the future.

Stayed with my family on May 31-June 1, 2014 in a roadtrip where we have no definite plan where we will spend the night. So on our way to Calatagan we saw a lot of signages with the face of Mother Ricky Reyes and his Golden Sunset Resort. So we followed the directions and arrived there after lunch

1. Service
When we asked for an available room, the Receptionist offered us the most expensive room. So I asked about the most affordable which is the standard room and she told me it is available. Upon paying, the Receptionist didn't even care to give us an official receipt. When I asked for one, she said they will just give it upon check out. I said no. I paid now so I need to have the receipt now.

Shuttle driver is very accommodating and helpful; same with the restaurant people

2. Accommodation
The place I should say is already outdated with more of 90s type of rooms and façade. Aircon is small its not enough to cool the whole room.

3. Swimming Pool
Very dirty. Although I saw the maintenance people clean the pool early morning. The water looks like it hasn't been changed for a long time. Molds are present, and a lot of tiles are already damaged. Filtration system is not enough because the water is dirty. Metals are rusting. They need to change it.

4. Beach
You cannot swim in the beach. Its also dirty and there are fish nets right in front of the beach.

5. Fish pond
Small fishes can be seen, but you can't really have a big catch

Ricky Reyes has a big beautiful place but the Resort is not well maintained.

After arriving on site and touring the grounds we cancelled our reservation and left. The place is in total state of disrepair and neglect.

Pools are empty, most equipment is broken and many buildings are overgrown with vegetation, restaurants are closed and staff is limited and poorly managed.

There is no beach and the resort is adjacent to fish pens. The resort is invested with mosquitoes and other insects.

There is no reason to stay at this place whatever your economic status. Save the time and money and go to one of the resorts in Anilao.

Do not believe these photos. They're totally different.

Before to read it, my apologize for too much complaining but for own good.

To all people, do not visit this resort because they have no responsibility cleaning and taking care of the resort. It's so dirty and many holes and cracks everywhere. There were 4-5 cockroaches in the bathrooms. :( I had a hard time taking a bath because I couldn't stop feeling scared of cockroaches. I have phobia of cockroaches.
There were so much broken tiles everywhere. I really don't know what's happening this resort. :( I wish the company should know this review and also other reviews. Pls improve your resort.
Of course we wanted to stay a beautiful resort like in photos. :(

We have avail of discounted room packages last travel expo in smx. Since, ricky reyes own it and maganda ang mga pictures, we have decided na i try for my son bday get away. We get the garden cove, nakasya raw ang six person at may pool na in front ng room. When we get there, it was so layo from the city, the lobby was so old and not well maintained. Then, the room, typical room, no toiletries, super daming mosquito, no cable tv, may local station nga pero very poor signal. Then the pool, very dangerous ang daming nakakasugat na tiles. And even we experience multiple brown outs, no generator to back up. The resto, no good. Better not to go to this resort or else im pretty sure ma di dissapoint din kayo.

We thought this is an awesome resort... from the tagline of their tarpaulins "Welcome to Paradise" plus of course, the picture of Ricky Reyes set our expectations too high... but it was actually THE OPPOSITE... As my son said " Welcome to HELL !!!"

In fairness, the facade of the resort was nice... beautifully landscaped in fact. Moreover, the view from our room, considering the pool just outside, the ocean (which is by the way, not swimmable) as well as the landscape, LOOKS fantastic.

However, it was the food, the rate, the room and the service in general, that will really irritate you to the max thus, will not appreciate the resort at all!
Comments / complaints:

THE ROOM: "Only LOOKS nice"
The Php 5,000 +++ rate of the room, PGH 10, for an overnight accommodation becomes expensive when you encounter this:
- no telephone thus, you have to walk to the front desk (which is quite far from our room) to bring out your complaint or your needs.
- there is a blurred TV with no cable channels, not even a dvd player!
- no refrigerator, thus the water that you will be provided with is definitely not cold, argh!
- bed mattress is hard, as well as the pillows
- the extra mattress which we paid for , for i think 600++, is just a foam with cover and
1 hard pillow.
- our balcony chairs are totally worn-out!
- toilet bowl flush is not working!
- and worse : THERE IS NO WATER IN THE TOILET / BATHROOM when we arrived and we were just attended to due to my persistent complain!!!
- our room is just beside the helper's or maintenance people's room thus you will hear them talking, see them cooking, without a top and slippers!
Hotels that command that rate do not even show how their dirty work is done!
I also realized why the room is named PGH, it's like PGH (the Philippine General Hospital) with a poor service. At least the Philippine General Hospital doesn't charge that much for their rooms and service... and they have competent people!

THE FOOD: "Definitely SUCKS !!!"
- it's served cold!
- There is no choice but get what they are / will be serving
-You cannot even have the eggs cooked differently, even as simple as my request : " Scrambled eggs" for my son, instead of the "sunny side up" which he doesn't eat.
- You have to pay P195 for the kids' breakfast but there is no drink meant for kids, even as simple as MILK or MILO! They only have COFFEE... for kids????
-The "BUFFET" dinner, which the front desk people said "eat all you can" is just good for one-time serving, as we were told by the people serving the food. Thus, the violent reactions of all customers which forced them to serve another round. Anyway, the food is not something you'll go back to.

THE SERVICE / PEOPLE: UNCOURTEOUS and INCOMPETENT!
- people lacks proper training !
- kitchen / restaurant staff do not even smile at you and will tell you that every thing is not available except for what they serve.
- it takes time for your complaint to be attended to, such as my complain on the toilet in our room.

This resort definitely deserves a negative rating!

We spent one night at suite and also had another room. Place was old, maybe has been nice a decade or so ago. Pools were nice and there were many to choose from. However they were lots of leaves and stuff floating. The worst thing was that we travelled with kids and the playground was extremely dangerous and my daughter had a serious accident in rusty slide. There was no way to avoid it as there were no lights in the playground. Food was ok.
We complained about the playground, no hot water but hotel just ignored that completely. I don't recommend this place. It is just too old and not maintained properly. Staff wasn't helpful, except the nurse did her job well.

Date of Visit : April 4 - 5 2015.

The place was not well maintained. Their Deluxe Room was nothing compared to other hotels i stayed with. There were cracks all over the floorings and even the walls. The door has gaps and comfort rooms were too small. House keeping was very poor. We asked for 6 towels but they gave us five and 1 complimentary shampoo and soap. Whew.. we paid for 5700 a night for this. Not only that, we experienced 5x power interruptions during the night. And so i have to wake up and open the air con, (take note their aircons are manuals).

Overall, this place is not worth to visit especially if you're from manila and you want to relax. The expenses and the time you'll spend for this resort is totally a waste.

Thank you.

We booked as a family. First, d resort took abt 30-45mins before we were taken to our suite. It was already almost 3pm!
Second, the water in d CR was so mahina, salty & smelly (mapanghe).
Third, no cable for the TV. fourth, d intercom service are located outside d rooms. So if it's raining, it's very inconvenient to use them.
As a final blow, we ordered food at d cucina de oro restaurant only to wait for our orders for a long time, only to find out that most of our orders were not taken!
