Many reviews mention the impressive breakfast but be warned that of recent date the proprietors have decided: "room only at the moment on these prices I am directing anybody to stanway where all the eating houses are." Somewhat confusing as their own web page clearly states: Dining (Tick) Cooked breakfast. You are encouraged to take advantage of the dining area should you take your own breakfast. So, as long as you are clear on that point It is a delightful B&B (-B) 29/07/2023

Very nice accommodation and we had a good nights sleep however and it’s a big however we did not receive B&B, just B. When I confirmed our arrival for the following day the lady said your just bed. I queried this via email and received a somewhat curt reply telling me I hadn’t booked breakfast and that if I wanted to add it we could at a cost of £20 per head!! I was given the option to cancel but only 12 hours before due to arrive this wasn’t really an option. So I checked our booking and could find no where we could opt in or out of breakfast. Who books a bed and breakfast and then has no breakfast. I shall be pursuing this the booking agent but whatever I would urge the Proprietors to review this policy if indeed it is one. I actually went through the motions again of booking a room and again there was no option in or out for breakfast. Sorry but this is really not on.

The property is in a great location if visiting Layer Marney Tower, which was our prime reason for booking. However, we were very disappointed with our stay. For £90 per night and being advertised as a B&B, you would expect breakfast to be included. However, all the literature on this property doesn't mention breakfast, which should perhaps have been a red flag. Neither does it say room only. But breakfast is not included and actively discouraged by the owner as "not cost effective". If that was the only disappointment, it would have been OK. The room we had was a converted garage under the house. It was cold and slightly damp, especially in the en-suite. There was no heated towel rail and no light above the mirror and our wet towels were not changed. The only place to sit was in a solitary garden chair by the door and the kettle was showing bare wires and no signs of a PAT test. Seemed rather tired and lacking in care and attention. Not worth the £90pn... Sorry

We stayed whilst on a cycling trip and appreciated the warm welcome and comfortable accommodation provided. We chose a cereal/toast breakfast but were offered a cooked one - we were not hungry enough to require the full monty, however the cereal and toast were just fine. Cycles were stored in a locked shed. Tea and coffee facilities and TV were provided as was en suite shower. Overall a very pleasant stay and lucky find. Owner Julie was extremely friendly and welcoming.

Really enjoyed our stay in this lovely part of rural Essex. Our double Ensuite room was really lovely, peaceful, comfy and spotless. Breakfast cooked and served by our friendly host Julie was really tasty. Would not hesitate to recommend this lovely B&B.

This is one of the loveliest bed and breakfast places i have eevr stayed in. Wood beams, farmhouse kitchen, spotless everywhere. Julie is so lovely she helped me when i was stranded and was so kind. Her husband is lovely too and their house is immaculate. The bedroom is warm and cosy and nothing is too much trouble.

Proper oldy-woldy house with floors that undulate gently up and down. Julie was a fantastic house, very welcoming, felt like we were old friends by the time we left the next morning. Breakfast was a real treat as well! Not only were we made welcome by Julie, but also a very talkative African Grey called Ernie, and two Alsatians who have clearly learnt that guests = cooked breakfast for doggies. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and really comfortable. I could not recommend Woodview strongly enough, and for the price I really would not look anywhere else!

Travelled to this B and B from Llanelli after all the positive reviews and we it certainly lived up to its expectations. We The purpose of our visit was to see Major Rocks live and as soon as we arrived which was quite early in the day we were shown our lovely room with no hassle and were able to unwind before we left for the festival. Julie the owner was a fantastic host and the breakfast was very tasty. She then gave us some ideas where to visit which were exceptional.George and Eli the dogs were absolute beauties and so friendly. We mustn't forget Ernie the parrot who was hilarious. If you want a welcoming B and B in a stunning location oozing with friendliness then this is for you!

Convenient location between Colchester and Mersea. Lovely old house (16th Century, I believe ) in extensive grounds. Easy parking. Short walk to country inn. Made to feel at home the moment I arrived. Clean, comfy room. Good breakfast. Just one observation; room charge was taken from my debit card while I was there without alternative payment methods begin offered. I had planned to pay by cash. That doesn't knock a star off though! Recommended.
