The holiday village is very well laid out . Our chalet was close to the entrance to the park but still near to the complex. The chalet was clean and the bedrooms very comfortable only complaint lack of drawer space perhaps change the bedside tables for ones with drawers when next renewing them The pool was great, kids had a great time there. The fun factory crew all work hard entertaining the children and the acts were good. The Borders restaurant on site had a good choice of items on the menu and the kids menu was good. Portion size was good. All the staff were very attentive when we visited this restaurant it was always busy so that shows how good it is. The fish box looked OK and prices were comparable with the chippy in the town The park is being upgraded from when it was run previously and is really looking better with more improvement going on. The staff in the reception are always polite and helpful. The small shop is good. We definately will come back.

Just got back from a week at Solway, the kids had an absolute blast. I stayed on both the camping site and in hired accommodation. I think there were positives and negatives, the negatives which improved would mean I could give 5 stars.

Positives

All the staff are really friendly, Josh in the arcade was wonderful with my autistic son (so much that he wanted to make him a goodbye card), an absolute credit to the site.

Everywhere was clean and tidy, I saw staff picking up rubbish daily.

The ladies on reception were amazing.

The places where there have been refurbishment were lovely, and it was very relaxing.

Hired accommodation was really lovely, I stayed in basic accommodation and it was cleaned to a very high standard and was a really nice van.

The entertainment was amazing and my kids loved it! Yes, it was very 'old school' but it was lovely seeing my kids enjoy the same things I did as a child.

Negatives

Some of the staff in the bars and entertainment could do with some customer service training. I appreciate that lots of these staff are very young, but they seemed more concerned with checking their phones or having banter amongst themselves than doing the job. The ladies in the Entertainment were the worst for this, they should really be interacting with the guests as the animation team and seemed to be more interested in having banter with themselves at times. And one of the bar staff mocked my accent when serving me in The Borders Restaurant, I took it as banter (this was the way it was intended, they are only young) but it was unprofessional and could have caused offence to others.

The play park needs a complete refurbishment, at the moment it's really not fit for purpose.

You need a cash machine on site. I have never been somewhere which relies on cash so much.

There is no entertainment during the day, as this was peak season, I would have expected a small kids club in the afternoon to break up the day. Wouldn't need to be anything excessive, arts and crafts, a film, games or bonkers bingo etc.

There needs to be more lights on the site, swathes of it were pitch black at night when walking back from the complex.

Overall, a lovely relaxing holiday. I know you are going through a period of modernisation, I intend to return next year to see what has been improved.

Thanks Solway, we really enjoyed ourselves 😀

We have been coming here for a couple of years with no issues at all and absolutely love the place!
We’ve just been for a week and the state of the swimming pool is appalling. We reported glass in the baby pool which is shocking when you are in with a baby and the amount of hair in the pool is disgusting. Please can the new owners revamp the pool and the changing rooms to the modern date instead of being in a dirty time warp.

We have a touring caravan and stayed here a few years ago. We thought the place was quite run down but once we heard it had been bought over and 8 million pounds spent we decided to come back, which was a big mistake. The first night we decided to eat in the new restaurant which wasn’t a huge menu so expected the food to be reasonably good but it was inedible. The next day we wanted to do some indoor activities (as the weather was bad) with our 3 year old son but the soft play was closed due to a leak and the small amusements they have were closed until lunch time so we ended up having to go to the park in Silloth where again everything was also closed. The following day we went to go swimming and they had to shut the pool on arrival due to a faulty light. With everything else closed we had nowhere to go to entertain our son.
Thank goodness to STANWICKS holiday park who provided us with a day pass for £5.50 per adult under 5 go free to use all their facility’s all day and salvage our holiday.
The only positive feedback is the new toilet block is probably the best one we’ve been too. I’m sorry to say we won’t be back which is very disappointing as we do like the touring pitch set up (even though it could do with some attention) such a shame as they still have a long way to go. It doesn’t look like 8 million pounds has gone very far even the roads to the pitching area is full of pot holes and the entrance which is your first and last impression is damaged and falling apart.

I booked Solway for 3 nights through Sun holidays after looking at reviews and it did not disappoint! I went with my 3 children aged 5,6 and 8. The whole site was spotless and well maintained. The caravan was immaculate, spacious and very modern. It wasn’t too busy or overcrowded and there was plenty of things to do on-site. We went swimming ( free with passes ) painted pottery, body zorbing and hired a pedal cart for an hour. I did think some of the activities were abit expensive, especially if you have more than one child. We went to the arcade and the kids loved the 2p machines and other games. We didn’t go to the entertainment at night purely because we were all worn out by the end of the day! We also didn’t eat in the restaurant but did see the food and it looked really good. The location was great, a 5 minute walk and you were at the sea and we managed to see a beautiful sunset from the green on the front. There is a coop a couple of minutes drive ( or 10 minute walk ) from the site which was very handy. I would definitely return again and would recommend to others.

We are just ending our 5 day stay at solway and I have very little complaints. Our caravan was brilliant, lovely and clean. Had everything we needed (we booked gold caravan)

The on site shop was relatively well priced. The free pool was great for the little one, we went every day at 4.30pm and there wasn't a wait. We didn't take part in any on site activities but there was pottery painting (£8 -£25 depending on what you paint), zorbs, archery etc.

The evening entertainment was good for the little one and the bar reasonably priced.

The on site restaurant is really nice, we had breakfast and dinner here and we had no complaints. We also ate at the onsite fish and chip bar and it was really tasty.

There are some areas that need updating, but I'm sure this will come as part of the ongoing works. The children's play area is dated and desperately needs a revamp. There are outdoor tennis courts and ping pong tables, but no equipment to hire. So the site should consider adding these to hire.

Also bring bikes/scooters for the kids. We left ours at home and wish we had brought them as its a short ride to the seafront and there is a free bmx/skate park there.

We will definitely be back.

We were welcomed on arrival by a cheerful lady at the reception desk.
She advised us of the location of the caravan and drew the exact location on a map.
We purchased a few necessities from the well stocked shop, which was very reasonably priced, and went and parked on our caravans driveway.
The caravan itself was immaculately clean.
Everything worked as it should, hot water, shower, TV, and even WiFi connection in the caravan.
Beds were made up for the size of our party.
On site facilities were brilliant.
We used the kids entertainment venue on all 3 of our nights, as we were on a family holiday.
My 2 children felt comfortable straight away with the friendly staff, who were very engaging, and involved everyone in the entertainment.
Princes are about average for what I would expect to pay in a bar on a holiday park.
We used the arcade which the kids loved, and was bigger than on other holiday parks we have stayed on.
We didn't use the food facilities so we can't comment on those.
We also used the pool on 2 occasions, kids had a great time.
My partner did comment on the cleanliness in the lady's changing room, but I would imagine this could have been due to the weather and people's shoes, and the gents were absolutely fine.
The surrounding area is beautiful.
I would recommend the amusements on the seafront and the cafe is very good.
Carlisle has many attractions and is about 40 mins away, if the weather isn't great.
I would recommend this holiday park to families with children.
It really is ideal.

If you are thinking of camping on this site don’t bother. The pitches are in shocking condition, there is no camp etiquette with people shouting to their camp members early morning, car alarms going off and dogs yapping.
The toilet blocks although new looking aren’t cleaned often enough (make sure you take your own toilet paper) oh and the shower block had no hot water, had to get redressed and walk back to my flooded camp to phone reception and inform, they did remedy the problem fairly quickly.
Ate in the restaurant and the food was good just takes a while to catch a staff members eye to reorder drinks as she seemed more interested in looking on her phone.
The entertainment was great if you had kids but good look getting a seat snd good luck getting in the pool too.
Lovely town, lovely walks and lovely locals. Wouldn’t recommend camping there tho unless it was in a chalet.

To be honest I was dreading the holiday a little after reading the reviews after I had booked , but I was pleasantly surprised. The Chalet had just been revamped so everything was new inside , carpets ,utensils etc. it was lovely and spacious. Although it could do with a towel rail in the bathroom as there was no where to hang one. The pool was clean and never really too busy . The site is getting a total make over so you do have the bear this in mind. The staff members were all lovely, helpful and friendly. They would do anything to help and all of them had smiles on their faces all the time.
The aqua attack activity could do with having more water pistols as there were only 2 for a group of 6 kids so there were arguments fighting over them. We have rebooked again for next year as intrigued to see how much would have changed and also for the price it’s not bad.

Currently at the park and leaving tomorrow. We are in the tourers camp area. This situated at the back of the camp, out of the way. It's very muddy and not all pitches are accessible. The showers and toilets block is very new but it is only checked once a day. In the current situation with a packed camping area and only one wash/toilet block this is not adequate. Floors are filthy and no toilet roll, take your own. I have not had a shower as the floors in there are filthy.
I can't comment on the activities offered as although dogs are welcome on the park they aren't actually allowed in anywhere which meant us having to sit outside and although there is a covered courtyard it is too cold.
It appears there is a wait to use the pool whereas once full you have to wait until someone comes out and no one knows when that's going to be.
We ate from the chippy. My partners food was lovely but my fish was burnt and the gravy was cold. I was ill later into the night.
There is a cement works towards the rear of the camping grounds which begins loud banging at 6am in the morning and continues all day.
The rest of the camp has some really nice parts and some suspect looking parts so check your accommodation before paying.

They are fenced but some don’t have a gate and therefore are not enclosed as such. I’d call Simone who is responsible for holiday bookings and ask to get a Chalet that is fully enclosed.
