Rooms are very spacious. Excellent resort for the weekend.
One of the lifts was not functional. That seemed to be inconvenient for members with leg issues.
Visited the spa. Elena and Toli were good masseuse.
Overall a very good experience!

It is very rare that a hotel is above expectations but our experience here was amazing. Service throughout was impeccable. Friendly, efficient and exceeded expectations. From the moment of check in to the last wave on departure. Club staff were great as was the food and drink there. A small menu of freshly cooked food all day and a different snack menu with drinks in the evening. As the food is all cooked to order there is sometimes a wait but well worth it. Loved the club sandwich and the veg kebabs. From cleaners of the rooms to waiting staff in the restaurant no one could have been more helpful We especially want to mention the junior sous chef Charul for all her advice on what to eat at the Melting Pot for breakfast and the lovely beach shack. Someone who really listens to what you want, gives well informed ideas and goes out of her way to share her love of Indian food, then delivers more than you expect. Do try the fresh sea bass and the lovely squid in the evening. Most days there is a breakfast special as well an an excellent buffet selection in the Melting pot. Again service was excellent from everyone. Loved the suffed parathas and the dim sum.
Suite rooms with sea views are lovely. In fairness the decor generally in the hotel is a little tired throughout but everything spotlessly clean. The suites are of generous size and were lovely to sit out in the evenings although in full sun until mid afternoon. Concierge services were really good from Paul. We used the hotel car to sightsee in Malabapuriam and hired a guide there. A local taxi provided our onward journey to Puducherry and was fine.
Just be aware you are a little distant from much else which is why we selected this hotel but that may not suit everyone
Not cheap but excellent value for money and an experience we will not forget.

Just returned from a 9 night stay.
First impression is a building of all concrete, but the design is based upon a Temple, and you soon get used to it.
The rooms are on 2 levels arranged in a “U” shape around the pool and fish lake. Its about a 200 yard walk to reception from the farthest room, and about 300 yards in the opposite direction to the beach.
Rooms are large and well furnished with all necessary accessories. All rooms are serviced twice a day, so no shortage of dry towels.
The outstanding feature of this hotel is the staff. They are all so friendly and helpful. Nothing is of too much trouble.
There are 3 restaurants on site, The Melting Pot, Kokomo Beach diner and Tao of Peng Chinese restaurants.
Melting Pot offers a wide range of differing nationality food option, supervised by Jahir. Great breakfast options.
Kokomo sits right on the beach, and it is fantastic to eat under the stars. We were looked after by Sadia who advised us on food choices to ensure not too hot for our UK taste buds!
Tao of Peng very good.
I would mention that individual portions are large in all outlets, so you may just want to share a dish between two.
They also have a Gatsby Lounge, primarily for the exec rooms, which offer food all day and host a “happy hour” every evening. I cannot praise the 2 main hosts, Hema & Buswajit enough. They were always smiling and attentive throughout our stay. Not only knowledgeable about a wide range of cocktails (a lot of which we tried! Thanks Jit), but also on the local area and what tours to try.
I only have one slightly negative comment about the food/beverages. There is a local state tax of 58% on all imported alcohol, but this is not shown on any menu, only that local taxes are excluded. This comes as a bit of a shock when you sign the invoice and find that your INR 3500 bottle of wine actually costs about INR 5580, as I assumed, wrongly, that tax levels are the consistent throughout the resort. I did discuss this issue with the hotel management, and they ensure me that there is an action to resolve this by showing prices including tax. Good reaction.
The hotel is also used for conferences and weddings, but we were not affected by crowds or noise. In fact, most days we had the pool to ourselves.
Transport to/from the airport, arranged by Paul, the concierge, on time and friendly.
I would certainly recommend the hotel as a base to stay in the Chennai area. The staff are a credit to the hotel and the IHG group.

My 3-night stay at Intercontinental Hotel Mahabalipuram in early September 2021 has been an unforgettable experience.
The hotel has a vast property and a private beach. During my stay I spent most of my free time at the beach restaurant Kokommo where manager Satinder and Gautam Dogra rendered excellent service. This beach side restaurant serves coal fired kababs, wide range of drinks. It plays nostalgic English music of 60s 70s and 80s which I loved the most. If you are staying here, you must take out time to experience this beach side restaurant.
The breakfast has a very wide range of fruits, fresh fruit and vegetable juices and several live counters of South Indian preparations, eggs and pancakes etc. They have an army of dedicated and courteous staff who takes care of your every need and being your orders to your table.
However, the top honour of serving best food goes to the Chinese restaurant Tao of Peng. I loved the food prepared by Master Chef Sudeep Taramu so much that all my lunches and dinners were at The Tao of Peng. Sudeep was kind enough to take out time to come from kitchen to personally understand my specific requirements about food. Thanks Sudeep for the amazing Asian delicacies and I will have to come again to savour your mindblowing preparations.
Room are well appointed and very comfortable. The reception frequently calls to ask for any specific housekeeping requirements in the room.
The hotel staff is highly motivated and have raised the bar with top class hospitality.
However, I found their concierge below par and their cab rates prohibitively expensive. So I did not use their travel servies and availed outside services. They could not even provide a list of things to do in nearby places even after waiting for half an hour at the reception.
However, on the whole this hotel is great value for money. This is the best hotel to stay if you are coming to Mahabalipuram.

Amazing place, matched only by the superb service and hospitality of its staff. We stayed for 3 days and two nights, didn’t even feel like stepping out of the resort. Must try:
1. Watch the sunrise over the bay
2. Dip in the sea and the pool. Pool is a comfortable 4 ft deep uniformly, so kids of 6+ age can be left to enjoy in their own
3. The Chinese cuisine restaurant (ToP) is really top class
4. If you are a tennis fan, they have a tennis court close to the beach
5. If you can, stay in the suite with bay view - you won’t mind paying extra money for it

The property sits right at the beach, its one of the most beautiful hotel i've ever stayed. the rooms were perfect, spacious. The food was amazing, I wouldn't have a second thought about recommending the place.

once the nigh light is on, the place becomes magical, excellent hygeine protocols in place. I requested for an anniversary cake which the team really helped with. I appreciate the efforts and it arrived on time :)

The only two reasons why i had rated is 3 instead of 5 is as follows, They are completely understaffed
1. I tried reaching them since two days prior to my check-in, no one ever answered the call, finally reached out to them over email.
2. The check-in time was 3 and we had to wait 40 mins past that to get the room, the person at the reception told us room was getting ready and it would take an hour for the cleaning to complete, come on this is unacceptable
3. The second day, we were bombarded with multiple calls to pick a time for house keeping, like 3-4 times even after confirmation we were continously disturbed, I don't want to be disturbed about house clean up and plan for it when i am in a holiday with a 5 star property.
4. During Dining, Vikas did a great job, but other than that there were really few people to even come and serve us water. For us make a order from the live counter we had to literally wait for someone to turn up to take our orders, its not that people were lethargic, there were really very few people.

I think the management should fix these issue, else we really loved the place. Hope things get addressed before our next visit.

Hello Ambrish, I appreciate you sharing a candid and constructive feedback- really appreciate you highlighting the best features of the Resort such as spacious room, maintenance, vibe and prompt service. I do take your feedback on board with regards to the boardline call response, time taken before you were escorted to the room and call follow-up's on scheduled housekeeping. I will be working with my team to streamline these minor shortfalls. It was our truly pleasure to do our best to make your stay comfortable and I am sure that my colleague Vikas will feel extremely proud to receive your recognition and know that he was a part of your memories at the resort. We were at this property for a week long ‘Workation’ and to beat the COVID monotony. The property was very well spaced out with good attention to sanitization, with plenty of outdoor space. The beach was clean and private, and for the most parts unoccupied by anyone other than the hotel guests. We had a pretty larger room with its own pool, so had plenty to do both in the room and outside.

The staff was simply amazing!! Cordial, very compassionate to our needs and special requests, and did everything possible to deliver a great experience:
- Chef Sudeep is truly a Rockstar!!! He was genuinely enjoying putting together new dishes for us and surprised us at every meal. The manager Jahir was fantastic and has a great team – Manoj, Chef Yash, Chef Tenzing, and pretty much the entire staff at his restaurant.
- Chef Rajkumar at the beachfront restaurant put together some amazing dishes for us over dinner. His fish dishes are not to be missed.
- Special mention to Abhishek from the front office. He was available at every hour of the day/night to help us with anything and everything, and ensured everything worked like clockwork for us.

Room service was not up to the mark, I was not able to connect to WiFi and I called them twice asking for help, they told they'll send someone but none ever came. Next thing, I called and asked for ice cubes and they just told that the machine is not working which to me is not an acceptable answer considering how much they charge you per night.. the place and ambiance was very good but their service ruined it for me

Celebrated my birthday over the last weekend of July. Was treated to amazing hospitality and food. Special mention to Vikas, jahir,Akanksha and Gayatri besides the many others at the restaurants The Amrtam spa offers a variety of packages. Special mention of zotei and Estée who were our therapists ,and very good. The waterfront is clean and the beach is beautiful and pristine. The water is turquoise green blue and not very turbulent. You can watch the waves and happy families while sipping on some amazing mock tails esp kaala khatta which is a spicy guava based drink
The only flaw I found was that the waterbody in the centre of the property was unclean and probably unattended to as there was a film set in place. The rooms except the 12 suites do not have a sea facing view ;actually no view at all which disappoints in a big way. It takes time to adjust to a room which initially appears odd but later grows onto you. Having the children in the adjoining room was so convenient and enjoyable.
I definitely would love to go back and recommend this place to others
We had taken an all meal inclusive package and am really glad we did so. The meals were delicious, well planned and varied throughout our visit.
I’d rate intercontinental chennai as 8.5/10.

We were here to attend a family member’s wedding for a couple of days and were treated amazingly. We arrived at 5am in the morning and were worried we wouldn’t be able to check in since it was so early, but the night shift staff were very accommodating and immediately gave us a room to rest up. The food is AMAZING and we loved having breakfast every morning. Huge thank you to the chefs who made such great food. Also if there is anything you need help with, you can text them through WhatsApp and they are extremely responsive with resolving the issue which made us feel safe and taken care of. Everyone was so nice and made us feel at home but two people who really stood out to us were Hema, one of the concierge staff, who helped arranged all our rides and Suresh, one of the hotel greeters, who always brought a smile to our face every morning we left to go somewhere and every time we arrived back at the hotel. Overall it was an amazing experience and if we are in the area again, we definitely will stay at intercontinental mahabalipuram!!!

Depends on age of the kids. There is an outdoor and indoor playing area and they are of decent sizes. if too young, obviously parents would need to be around.
