Detailed Reviews
My wife and I dropped by just this morning at around 11:30 today, inquiring about booking this venue for our company's team building event.
As we tried to enter the resort with our car, the guard told us to just park by the side of the dirt road as we were only inquiring and that their parking area was full. It didn't look full at all. As we were parking outside, 3 SUVs and a sedan arrive and were allowed to enter. I assume those guests already had bookings. I asked the guard why he allowed those cars to enter but not us. He just replied "magiinquire lang naman kayo". That was quite insulting so we just decided to leave. Whether it was the guard's sole discretion or management policy, you should treat potential customers with more respect.
Your staff was more accommodating and warm back in 2008 when we first visited and stayed in your resort.

Response from PuertoDelSol_ph, Community Manager at Puerto Del Sol Beach Resort
Responded Apr 27, 2017
Hi prego72, Good day! We have conducted a full investigation regarding this review. In behalf of PDS Management, we sincerely apologize for what happened. The security guard in question has been sternly reprimanded. We do take our customer service very seriously. While it is true that the driveway (parking is presently across the street) should be as clear as possible for incoming guests, there is no excuse for poor behavior. We hope this isolated incident won’t discourage you from staying with us in the future. Rest assured this will not happen again. Please get in touch with us if there is anything we can help you with.

We went here for our annual staff outing and had very high expectations since the hotel looks really nice (on their website; been to Bolinao previously and saw the nice villas) and they charged pricey rates (so we could allow ourselves to expect at the very least, a truly relaxing vacation for our group of 32). They asked us to pay in full 3 days before the trip and we obliged, assured that everything would be taken cared of by the hotel as we were their "valued guests" (as they claimed in their marketing materials).
From the 1st day, our expectations were already smashed because we didn't really feel welcome (unsmiling front desk who just read us all the guidelines as if we were children: "no this, no that, and if we don't comply..blah, blah, blah!) What a truly warm welcome from a hotel boasting of the "friendliest staff" :(
Throughout our stay, we felt like we were walking on eggshells, like we were being "policed" by the staff and we were staying there for free (instead of being paying guests). Even simple requests were met with hostile refusals, and there was no effort to be "of service" in any way. Worst was our 2nd day when we had a land tour arranged for 4 different sites. We left at 12:30pm and returned at 4:30pm. Upon returning to the hotel, the assistant HR manager scolded (no exaggeration) us saying that we would be charged extra because the tour was only for 2 hours and we came back after 4 hours.
I reasoned with her that when we agreed to the tour, no one said anything about the tour being for 2 hours (which is unreasonable considering the distance and amount of time needed to appreciate the sites) and she disrespectfully told me "wala naman kasi kayong kotse, nag-rent kayo sa amin." I was very insulted with her attitude and her disrespectful remark and asked to talk to the manager. Only then did they waive the fee they were charging us for "exceeding the time limit."
That night, we asked where we could stay as a group for some team-building activities we planned. They refused to allow us in the restaurant nor the seaside veranda which we requested for, and instead made us stay outside the restaurant (underneath a leaking canopy - it was by the way raining hard), with no lights (had to request for some candles at the least since they turned off the lights, "sinasara daw kasi iyon sa gabi," and locked the nearest comfort rooms (as if we were going to steal tissue paper and maybe soap? or the bathroom fixtures??). Never before have I encountered hotel/resort management as unaccommodating as this resort's.
At check-out time, front desk was inefficient in billing us (making us miss our bus, just because they cannot account for 2 bottles of mineral water from our mini bar), and they refused to give us coke in can (we requested for our buffet food to be packed since we'd be travelling by bus) in place of our soup and dessert and insisted on giving us 1.5 liters of bottled softdrink and some plastic cups (which they expect us to serve inside a moving bus!). Worst, they forgot to give us utensils which we only found out when we stopped over.
So, in summary, it was our most stressful company outing ever! Will not recommend this resort to anyone who would want their vacation to be a stress-free one and would want value for their money.

We just came from an overnight night stay in Puerto Del Resort. But what I can say is this is “Worst” resort/hotel I ever stayed.
Reasons:
1. INCONSIDERATE - We drive 6hours to go to Puerto Del Sol. We arrived earlier than the check in time because we decided to travel as early as 1am because it’s our first time to go to Bolinao we have no idea of the place and we want to have more time to explore the place. Upon arrival the guard at the gate asked if we have a reservation and we said yes we have. He told us that the check in time was 2pm (in a rude manner) and treated us as if we are not a guest. We told him that we are asking for little consideration since we came from a far place but his so arrogant in answering us. So we try to understand that is there policy so we just asking for a place where we can stay and he answered “dyan dyan sa beach muna kayo” as if we are not a guest to tell us that way.
“Treat your guest right and in the first place we are not walk in we booked and settle full payment that you requested”
2. Not well trained receptionist – the front desk was open at 7am. So still we asked for a little consideration if we can check in early but he told us the room was not yet available. Again the way the receptionist talk was still arrogant. She even told us that she’s not on duty. We asked her if we can just upgrade or avail a room which is available so that we can take a rest. She told us that we will pay for the extra hours we will consume but avail the same room we booked. “The room we booked was not available but if we pay for the extra hours the room will be available” what was that??? We do understand if the resort was fully booked or on peak season but they only have few guest.
So we just decided to pay for the extra hours because we need to rest and we have no sleep.
3. The food was too expensive but doesn’t taste that good for the price.
4. The rooms are too small for the price that they charge.
5. The beach was not good for swimming.
6. We are asking to talk for the Manager so that we can air our complaint but the manager did not bother to show up.
Total Rating: Don’t go to Puerto Del Sol is not worth to travel 6hours just to treat as if you we not a Guest but they to insist that it’s a first class resort but the staff are not well trained. But credit to Ms. Briget and other staff at the restaurant the only people who manage to smile and serve us properly.

Me and my cousin booked 2 villa mansion rooms which is good for 2 pax. We travelled with our husbands, my 5 year old daughter, my cousin's 2 kids (1 yr old & 9 years old), our grandmother and my mom, in short 6 adults and 3 kids. We expect to pay for 2 extra adults but to our dismay we were demanded to pay as well to our daughters who are less than 12 years old same cost as we have to pay to the extra adult. They have a VERY unfair hotel policy. They allowed 2 kids, free of charge per room but it should be 0-2 years old. Otherwise they are to be charged as adult. We complained to the staff but they insist, that is their policy. I was really didappointed because i know in most hotel resorts even 5 star rated hotel they normally allow 2 kids below 12 years old as free of charge. But here only 2 years old below are considered as kids! We have to pay for the 2 kids who cant even enjoy their buffet breakfast!
We are also disappointed during our dinner. We asked the waiter if they can served our food near the sitio amore pool since there's also a restobar in there but the waiter told us that he wont be able to do it and can only deliver inside the room. I didnt get the point when they are allowing delivery to rooms but delivery on the other restobar near the pool is not allowed.
Their rooms also need a lot of maintenance and improvements. Sinks and shower are stained and toilet bowl are not properly cleaned.
They have complimentary coffee inside the room but there's no way to heat the water. You will need to request a hot drinking water in their resto so you can have your 3 in 1 coffee and it will take them a very long time to deliver it.
Lastly, the beach is not with my expectation. We were not able to swim in their beach as the water seems like half kilometer away from the shore. It also has a lot of sea grass and trash which is so disgusting to look at. The only good thing about this resort is their pool and ambience which you can easily find near manila without travelling for 5 hours.
I am very disappointed Guest!!!

over all the resort is good, except for their pricey restaurant/cafeteria and their rude Restaurant manager (sir mark) ..the management should know about this.. the resort will surely have bad comments because of this manager.. tsktsk.. pity much...

I was very disappointed with Puerto del Sol. I bought last month a promo offered at Ensogo.com.ph. Accordingly, it is 50% off the regular price. With all the beautiful pictures displayed in the ensogo website, I was lured to buy such promo. However, when we went to Puerto del Sol for check-in in order to claim the promo, I was disappointed that the promo was for nipa hut, with just curtains, no comfort room. The nipa hut is not in good condition. There is a foam mattress that is already dilapidated and quite dirty. Aside from the fact that the nipa hut has shabby appearance and untidy, there is no privacy! With this, I talked to the front desk and asked if I could possibly upgrade my accomodation. She said that if I upgrade it, I would pay around PhP3,900.00 which is more than twice the price of the promo I paid which is PhP1,800.00. I asked why is it that I have to pay such amount for the upgrade(in a room), she shaid that what I availed was good for 4 pax that's why I should also pay such amount for 4 pax. For such a shabby nipa hut, and very limited space (around 4 square meters), it is for 4 pax? Oh my gosh!
I asked how much is the price if ever I would just check in as a walk-in guest in a room(not nipa hut). The lady in the front desk said that it's PhP3,400.00. Because my companion was quite tired already, I told the front desk that I would just check in as a walk-in guest because it's cheaper and I would just forget the promo voucher that I bought at Ensogo which is PhP1,800.00. as according to Puerto del Sol, my voucher cannot be used anymore because it was already booked and it cannot be refunded or rebooked.
The lady replied that I cannot check in as a walk-in guest because I availed the Ensogo voucher. She said that the Ensogo made the reservation..and blah,blah,blah..I said what's wrong with checking-in as a walk-in guest when I will be paying the amount just like other walk-in guests. She said that they will still ask Ensogo for appoval, the manager cannot decide. Because of this, I was very dismayed, disappointed and really got angry! We left and looked for a resort nearby. We were able to check in at Punta Riviera Resort and only paid Php3,500.00. Punta Riviera is a very nice resort, nice front beach being sliced by a river.. very nice. It's a very unique resort.
Truly, I was deceived by Puerto del Sol in their promo offer at Ensogo.com.ph. So to all of you reading this review, be careful with the promo offers as these are just deceptions. They don't really tell the disadvantages. All they want is your money.
Furthermore, the staff of Puerto del Sol do not know how to deal with their guests. why won't they allow me to check-in as walk-in guests when in fact I will pay the cost for it.
So guys, don't ever try Puerto del Sol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate that resort!!!!!!!!! I lost my PhP1,800.00.!!!!!!!!!Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just arrived yesterday from our stay at the Puerto Del So resort. I must say that our experience has not all been that pleasant and far from the expectations one might get from seeing inviting pictures in their website or the net. I don't particularly write reviews but this time I am compelled to express my thoughts for a stay that could have been far better.
First of all, the place itself is nice. I like the facilities like the houses, the pool, the jacuzzi, the green grounds, and peaceful setting. But that is all that I like.
Housing
We stayed at their Casitas which has 2 separate rooms and shared bathroom. With the promo, it costs 7k plus. Without promo it costs double. My impression? It's not worth it. It's nice but 14k or even at 7k discounted, go somewhere else. It's overly priced I think. If you spend 7k for a room at a 5 star hotel, you get far better accommodation, food and service. More on these below.
Breakfast
Our package included free breakfast, but you have no choice as to what free breakfast you can have except Continental breakfast. Fine, Continental is not bad I said until I saw what it was. About 6 pieces of triangularly sliced toasted bread, and one little piece of butter which is not even packed. Now tell me, how in the world will you spread one little piece of butter onto 6 pieces of bread?!!! And toasted bread they say, well, what a disappointment their toasts had been. The bread were more like heated but NOT toasted. No ham or bacon, no jelly or marmalade, no eggs even. Nothing of what makes a typical Continental breakfast. And they have the face to say it's Continental. One foreign guest present also commented, "I don't know from what Continent it came from." They also served a small plate of fruits. The sliced watermelon and half ripe mango was good, but the banana, the cheapest fruit you can find no matter the season, they served only half!!! What an insult! No wonder they give no other choice for your free breakfast. They are shortchanging customers. If you want another type of breakfast, you must "upgrade" and pay extra P100. Then they give you ham and eggs. Why must you be first be upset before you eat?
Staff
Here is an area that really made me mad. I called the front desk twice at about 8am from our room. Nobody answered. I had to walk to the office and the door was still locked. Somebody from outside noticed us and instructed somebody and the office was opened. I asked why there was no one in the front desk when I called? The answer I got from the resort manager by the name of Bernie Diaz is that the call is directed to security when the office is closed. I insisted that whether it was forwarded or not, nobody answered the phone at a time when the front desk should be opened which is 7am as written in the notice that I read. He did NOT apologize but insisted nobody called them. He made me feel that that I am lying. I asked again why no one is manning the front desk at 8am when in fact the notice on the desk says that it is open at 7am? His answer is the same. Awful customer service!!!! They pride themselves as 3 star international resort and nobody is available at the front desk even at 8am? What if you suddenly have a need during the night or in the early morning, who takes care of you? Angrily, I told him I will notify the main office here in Manila.
When were were walking with our luggages, some of the staff saw us but never did they offer to help! Is it too much to expect to be helped when we were carrying our luggages? I'm not saying all staff are unhelpful for there were some who were. For most part however, especially the resort manager, they could be more helpful and professional.
Smoking
There were ashtrays by the poolside. I guess smoking is allowed in the area. Just imagine guests smoking while your children are by the pool.
Parking
If you have a car, don't expect to part inside the resort. They have an unlighted area outside the gate. They say they have roving guards at night. But just be aware that it's outside the very gates of the resort and most of the area is hidden from the post of the guard house.
My recommendation, go somewhere else. It's overrated. Or else, EXPECT HIGH PRICE WITH TERRIBLE SERVICE. Then you will not be disappointed like we did.

The place is too busy expanding, it's owners are forgetting to take care of its guests. They seem to fleece customers with overpriced meals, rooms and services to pay for new construction!
After suffering Manila prices for provincial fares served in the din and dust of the construction next door, we finally got our basic rooms in the overbooked and overrated resort. The views of the distant beach simply couldn't overcome the bad omen signaling even worse things to come.
Signs of do's and don'ts dotted the poolside. One sign even tells you what happens when someone defecates in the pool! If you decide to skip the pool, the old jacuzzi nearby has limited operating hours. It's closed for most of the day. As if we haven't had enough, the hits kept coming.
The next day, despite the overpriced tour packages the resort offers, we decided to book a snorkeling trip to the nearby islands thru the front desk. The natural beauty of Bolinao was what we came for anyway and we simply wanted to escape from captivity.
When we went to the front desk at the appointed time, no arrangements were made. No boat. No guide. No apologies. We simply ended up changing tours on the fly to save the day. Finger pointing took over an hour of our lives. It wasn't the only time we saw employees bickering at a vacation spot where you seek peace and tranquility.
It's a pity it's the only resort with decent accommodations near the places we wanted to see in Bolinao. And boy do they know it! The owners are too busy making money for new construction they've spent little time taking care of their well-paying guests.
Forget about feeling a warm welcome here. Prepare to be gouged!

It is very hard to get to through the Dagupan / Lingayen traffic bottleneck to Bolinao beach. It takes only 3 hours on the freeway from Manila or Subic to arrive at the start of the congestion, and that was the real easy bit. After hours more battling with trikes, rice pickers and fuel tankers all fighting for the same skinny strip of road that are also shared to dry rice on, we finally begin to see the signs directing us to Puerto Del Sol. We follow the signs and wind up lost. As the last critical turn-off to the left there is No sign, making us a little more frustrated. We turn up at the gate and pronounce ourselves to the guard. He checks, and sees no booking for us… making us even more frustrated! I showed him the paid reservation on my computer and he lets us in.
Upon arrival we were given a small welcome drink and necklace. While I appreciated this, I just really needed to go to the bathroom and explained that was becoming urgent. I was given a form to sign to check in … after the travel and need for the comfort room it was just a blur and of course I signed it. (remember this point for the end of this review) It was getting late, almost 5:00pm we finally checked in.
The beach location is beautiful and the resort is kept very clean and tidy.
We bought our small lap-dog who normally sleeps in the car. As the resort has strict no-pet policy the reception offered a cage that sits next to the guard for about 500p a night, I think I recall this price accurately. We liked this idea and gratefully accepted, and went to visit our pup and take him out to the beach often during our short stay.
We arrived at our room which is like an elevated Nippa-hut and were the advised there is no Bathroom Or toilet in the room… it is down below, not like down the stairs, a lot more like down a ladder! Right, so when we need the toilet in the night we has to scale the ladder half-asleep.
We started to settle into the room, quickly noticing we cannot see the ocean from our room… the outdoor thatched roof hangs way too low. See the photo, you can see the water unless you bend right down or sit on the floor!
Trying to remain positive we headed out and enjoyed the sun-down in a fabulous beach front deck suspended out over the sand. We ordered a beer from a male waiter. We noticed strangely that 90% of the staff are boys… but we had one girl serving us. We had to remind her to go get that beer, and she then broke into a loud argument with the boy waiters over it. We ordered two meals.. what we really wanted from the menu was “Not available sorry sir”. What was served was one really nice meal of fresh rolls of veggies.. and one very ordinary Pumpkin soup much like it was from a packet. Although nothing could spoil our time in this beautiful surrounding, we enjoyed our beer.
We started to notice what I call ‘penny pinching management’ - particularly over electricity. When we had arrived at the room I went straight for the refrigerator looking for cold beer after our long drive. I normally clean-out the cold drinks not caring about the cost while enjoying the convenience. The beer was all warm and I soon realised when we took the key from the card-slot not only the primary power source went down, but also the refrigerator. I though that was dumb.. so they save on power but they sell no beer.
Things like No kettle/jug in the room for coffee…. you have to go fetch hot water from the water station’. It felt a bit like camping…. walking to get water, and being on holiday I didn’t mind to much.. well until I got to the ‘Hot Water Station’ and found there is no hot water.
The windows in the room are also screwed shut, I guess to stop the cool conditioned air escaping. I’d rather have the option to open the windows and turn off the air, especially when I am paying 8,000 Peso a night.
There are No available power points in the room at all, and we really needed to charge our devices. I found that I could see one point under the bed. I just needed to move the bed out from the wall a couple of inches. We discovered that they had strapped the bed to the wall to stop people accessing the power point!
There wasn't even a box of tissues in the room… I had to scale the ladder even to blow my nose. The towels, pillows and linen on the bed are not resemblance of a $200 room anywhere. Rather scruffy and sub-standard.
Our room charge included breakfast. Becoming concerned about this ‘penny pinching’ I said to my partner Angie “We better get to breakfast early” ..as being an experienced traveler I am aware that places like this can pack-up breakfast early to prevent guests access to the buffet.
The next day, not really keen to get up early and preferring a sleep-in when on holiday at the beach (fancy that?), we made sure we got up and got there at 9:30am, thinking they would pack up at 10:00am … this is normally the earliest any hotel would take the breakfast away. The restaurant was deserted. Breakfast had closed at 9:00am!
They did anyhow offer us a choice including an omelet “but only 2 fillings sir” and one of those choices was cheese.. huh? Cheese is considered a filling in an omelet? …but without the cheese it is just a scrambled egg! I insisted cheese was not a ‘filling’ and I asked for Cheese, Ham and Mushroom. That I did get… but no-more than one small mushroom sliced up and about 4 grams of ham. I ordered coffee and the charged me for those too!
We went for a walk on the lovely beach outside the resort they were maintaining the traditional Filipino littering quite well. Walking further down most of the beach is not too trashed yet, however I did manage to fill a whole plastic bag of trash up to return to the bin.
We then went for a swim in the pool that was nice.. a little cloudy. It was a pity to see the outdoor bar in the centre of the pool was no longer used, and the fountains no longer ran.
We decided it was reasonable to check out at 2:00pm, we did check-in very late and it is not unusual to check out at 2:00pm in Asia. We were still very positive, up-beat and happy.. but then we arrived at reception with our bags we were informed of a 1600P ($40) Late Check out fee…! we didn't even get 24 hours in the room! I complained but the girl on reception replied “You signed the form to accept this on check-in sir”. What a great way to make your guests furious!!
So this experience cost around $250 Australian dollars for a room with No Toilet, No view, No power-points, No tissues, a crummy omelet with no coffee, poor sheets and pillows and you get to climb up a ladder to go to bed.
The room is worth about half that … especially with all the restrictions and extra fees everywhere. The resort and location feels terrific, but I don’t recommend this place for this price, never again.

5 star menu prices for very very sad, mediocre food. I don't fault the place for not allowing you to bring food in. I don't fault the place for not having more than one restaurant to eat in. I don't even fault the place for having a restaurant that charges ridiculously high prices! But the least you can do when you charge an arm and a leg for food is to serve comensurate good food. This aspect really wrecked the resort for me. It was aspirational menu items and food prices. It really made the place feel pretentious. The place was nice, serene, clean, and peaceful but when you get up from a meal feeling dissatisfied and robbed, it just really makes you feel like a fool. I wish I was exaggerating but I'm not.
