You will need a car or some sort of transportation to get to this hotel as it is located on top of the hill. There is public transportation, but it is slightly inconvenient. Particularly, if you want to go out into the city for the evening and stay out somewhat late and drink (and not drive, don't do it!), getting back will definitely require a taxi since public transportation will have stopped fairly early. Despite this, you will definitely appreciate the stunning view of the lakes and Swiss Alps from the room!

One evening, we walked down the hill (about 10 min) and took a bus to get to the city center. The walking was fun and we enjoyed the view. We waited for a bus at the closest bus stop towards the foot of the hill and the wait was only 10 mins or so. From there, it took about 15 mins to get to Hauptbanhof, the central station of Luzern.

The hotel itself looked a bit old but the staff was quite nice and friendly as well as the housekeepers. We did not spend much time in the room but the view from the room is worth the money. We woke up with an amazing view of beautiful Luzern! Also I would like to mention that there was a handwritten welcome letter from the hotel staff in our room. It was such a nice thing to do! We also noticed play equipment for kids to use outside at the hotel, though we did not have any kids.

We did not eat at the hotel restaurant but the look of the restaurant was nice as the big windows were facing the lakes and the mountains. If we have a chance to come back to Luzern, we would love to try eating here!
ホテルでは食事はとりませんでしたが、レストランは大きな窓で囲まれていて、とても景色がよかったです。もしまたルツェルンを訪問する機会があれば、このレストランで食べてみたいと思います。

Beautiful location, room was very warm but the stunning views in both the bedroom and bathroom made up for this. We were able to open all windows and also heard the cowbells from down the mountain. The hotel does need an elevator/lift as we did have to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs, but the experience of this location made that worth it as well. The breakfast bar was fairly minimal for the standard breakfasts in Europe, but it was enough and you are able to sit outside overlooking all the beauty of the mountains and lake. We are from the states and just enjoyed the overall feel and location of this hotel immensely. It’s not your standard by any means. And after 2 long days on excusions, it was nice to return up the mountain, it’s an easy drive but very very pretty and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There’s also an authentic German cafe 1.5 miles down the road. It was very good and I’m assuming a less expensive option.

We are pleased that, despite the minor challenges, you enjoyed your stay with us and in the surrounding area. This hotel has great views of the city and if you are willing to spend a little extra time to get into the city then this hotel is for you. The staff was very friendly both in the restaurant and at the front desk. From the main train/bus station it takes about a 45 min walk or 30 minutes via public transportation. Although this hotel has a wonderful view of the city, the rooms with fairly small and there were no amenities other than mini golf which was underwhelming.

Pros:
Great panoramic view indeed.
Daily housekeeping.

Cons:
Too costly for a 3 star hotel.
Hotel is not equipped to cater for international travelers.
TV did not covert to English.
No fridge, microwave, phone, iron, and ironing board.
Breakfast was the same daily.
No receptionist after 5 PM daily.
After restaurant closes in the evenings/nights daily, there is no access to coffee, tea, or something warm if needed.
Parking lot is pitched dark when driving in after 6 PM.
Stairways pitched dark after 6 PM.
Motion lights in the hallways otherwise pitched dark during the nights.
The City or Town of Kriens need to safeguard the drive up the hotel because road is extremely narrow with no room for any one car to pull to the side for the other to go. One slip and you are down the cliff with 0 chances of surviving.
We had to switch rooms on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022 and while we stepped out for about 2 hours for brunch, Ms. Caroline and her team started to move our personal belongings. This was extremely disrespectful and totally unacceptable because under no circumstances unless it is an emergency, this should be done especially when Ms. Caroline had my phone number to reach me at to seek my permission before doing this. Furthermore, we even left the 'DO NOT DISTURB' signs on our doors of the two rooms and they still started to move our personal belongings without our permission and knowledge.
Lucerne on the whole is not diversified. I could not locate a salon to do facial waxing. Kitchens of restaurants close at 2 PM daily.

We stayed for 3 nights in October 2020. We arrived on a Monday, unfortunately the restaurant was closed so we had to get in the car again to get dinner (after a long drive it was the last thing I felt like). The ponies were in their stable, the mini golf & train were not in operation while we were there (this was one of main reasons for booking Sonnenberg). The rooms are clean & functional, unfortunately you can hear your Neighbours pretty well through the walls. Otherwise good value & the staff were very helpful & pleasant.

Comfortable room with a panoramic view. We chose it as my partner had stayed here before, liked it, and it was away from the brouhaha of Luciern. It's something of a trek to to get into Lucern (funicular, bus, hike combinations) but everything worked well. The breakfast was fine although the buffet was on the small side. Restaurant service was sometimes great, sometimes dismissive although we only had a coffee and snack plus breakfast. The hotel is fine if you are overnighting and have something else to do. Note that half of the rooms look onto the woods behind and half onto the panorama. One family member got a single, low cost room with shared bathroom facilities down the hall. No elevator. Some nice walks around the location if you like to hike. The terrace is great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or an apéro!

This nice property is ideally located just outside Lucerne. The hillside provides a lovely view over the surrounding hills and mountains. Our room was small, but functional and the bathroom served us nicely. The only negative thing to say about our stay was the Alps-shaped bath soap, which didn't lather well and dissolved quickly. We were touring the area so we never got to enjoy the trails on the property, but they looked interesting. The staff was helpful, especially Claudia Bucher, who helped us get our iPhones to work with the hotel's Wifi.

A true highlight is the restaurant. Having the restaurant in the building makes it convenient to collapse in your nice, small room with great views after dinner. The restaurant is reviewed separately.

I really was looking just somewhere to sleep over night. I was out all day from 8am till late. For those hours there is no good transport getting to or leaving the Hotel. Everything was amazing. Very clean. The room had no air-con, so it was very hot. There was a fun. The cows are just outside and their bells are making noises all night. The fruit and vegetable van arrived at about 8am again just outside my room and making delivering noises again. Perhaps the hotel should supply some ear plugs.

The hotel, modern and visibly renovated, is located on top of a hill in Kriens. Very quiet with a beautiful view of the lake and the mountains. The center of Lucerne is a few km away by car. The room had a balcony that was large enough and practical for relaxing while admiring the view. TV, free parking. The bedding is quality, small bathroom with a sink and shower. The hotel has a dining room and terraces, all with panoramic views. Welcoming staff, but few in number. The breakfast is of good quality but a little limited in choice. Overall an excellent stay with very good value for money.

We felt very comfortable. The family room was a bit compact, but completely adequate. The breakfast was great - the location of the breakfast room is also very nice. In general, the location of the hotel on the ridge of the Sonnenberg is very nice and pleasantly quiet. The staff was also very friendly.

The train station is in the town whereas Sonnenberg is quite high up in the surrounding hills. You would need to get a taxi or a lift from a friend, otherwise it would be a steep walk.

We stayed in a double room with our own private bathroom. Not sure about single rooms. Lots to see & do in Austria, especially visiting the scenes from the "Sound of Music". We did lots of walking to sight see the parks and along the river. Just beautiful. We were there for 2 nights. Breakfast was included in our price and it was lovely & plentiful. The staff were very friendly & helpful. Would recommend this B & B.
