The hotel is small but the room was very clean and felt just like home. The food was very good and the staff were the best hotel staff I ever met. Their service were outstanding. The view of the ocean is nice especially during sunset, During night time they have a telescope and you can see the moon via the telescope. very beautiful.

We stayed here only one night but really enjoyed it. The place is simple and clean with friendly staff. The fittings and bed duvets are a little tired and they don't have double beds, but not really a problem. If you're on the oceanview side the views are AMAZING!! Night and day we loved having the curtains open! We also ate at their pizza restaurant for dinner and the pizzas were so tasty! We had 3! Highly recommended.

The first disappointment was the 'ocean view' room. It turned out to be ground floor, with most of the window covered in reflective coating, otherwise people can look inside the room. But this meant we couldnt really see the outside either. Don't be fooled by the free drink vouchers, as they serve watered down orange drink with sugar, not the fresh juice on the menu. (other options are coffee and tea - coffee is over brewed/filtered.) The dinner was so noisy with one of the hotel staff talking the loudest in Chinese. I give two stars, not one, cos the 3 cheese pizza with honey was fantastic. We really enjoyed that. The breakfast was atrocious, the worst I've ever seen in Japan (this is my 7th time in Japan). The fish was tiny and smelly. I had to beg for milk (I think

Look past the (slightly tacky) paintings of dolphins on the exterior and you'll find a cute little hotel, on the water. There's a large deck overlooking the water. You get a free welcome drink (good for wine or ice cream too!). The pizza at the restaurant is pretty decent. Breakfast is traditional Japanese, but there is also coffee and toast. Rooms are pretty big (by Japanese standards!). The staff will help arrange any tours (we did a bear watching boat tour) and are very friendly.

Our room is spacious for four person, it is very comfortable and with very nice views towards the cape and sea. It might be good if you are driving to this place as public transport might need you to walk for a while to the hotel.

It was not easy to encounter drift ice in January; however, it was the highlight of my travel in Hokkaido. During half a month, I inquired of all hotels about drift ice available. It was IRUKA hotel that replied me every day. Wearing dry suit, I set off from IRUKA hotel's terrace, where Sea of Okhotsk was right before my eyes. At first, I encountered a red fox, as if it had been the fox in the Little Prince and said "Good morning" to me. To my surprise, on open Sea of Okhotsk were three persons only: me, IRUKA's manager, and his regular guest, who had often visited there since thirteen years ago. I ventured out on thin ice as if I had been Elsa of Disney's Frozen, but accidentally......I fell through. They made hard efforts to pull me out of the sea. At last, we sat chatting

I tried to book an ice diving plan with Iruka for February. I originally emailed them three months ago, in English (as their website and other blogs claim they have English services), but got no response. A week ago I emailed them in Japanese to which they responded very coldly saying they were full. I replied noting my original email (I probably could have booked in time) and also asked if they knew of other companies that could help. Again, their response was cold and very unhelpful. I have lived in Japan for a long time and have very rarely experienced customer service this bad.

Nice little place on the outskirts of Shiretoko National Park. Clean and tidy, and lovely staff. The dog is incredible too, a real cheeky character. Mare sure you don't miss the turn, especially in the dark otherwise you'll end up at a dead end (like we did).

This is a small b&b hotel run by a friendly lady who speaks a little English and her son in Utoro onsen. There is also a resident poodle by the name of Akuri which can be seen and heard in the hotel sometimes. We booked a tatami style twin room with fabulous views of the Okhotsk Sea. The hotel is built on the coastline very close to the open sea with mostly unimpeded views (except for some wave barriers in the distance). The hotel provides pickup from the Utoro onsen bus terminal if you notify them ahead of time. It is highly recommended that you call the hotel ahead a day before you arrive as their email response is very slow and you may or may not receive a reply from them. They will also you off at the station if you notify them ahead of your departure. Our tatami room had

"Iruka" is the Japanese for dolphin which can sometimes be seen in the waters near the hotel together with some whales. The hotel is an interesting mixture of a guest house and youth hostel with clean and spacious private rooms together with a comfortable lounge which has free tea and coffee all day. Breakfast is very good and recommended although the hotel does not serve any evening meals. The hotel overlooks the harbour at Utaro and is on the outskirts of the town although it is not that far to walk. The owner will also arrange to take visitors to and from the bus station. If you are going to visit the nearby Shiretoko National Park the hotel is an ideal base and a pleasant and comfortable place to stay.
