Stayed for 3 nights and were delighted to find that Sandgate was the ideal position. Ten minutes from main town (if that) it was a lovely town. Made very welcome after a drink in the bar and were shown to our room at the top of the property. Well, not only did we have a bedroom but a separate sitting room overlooking the sea. Chesterfield settee and perfect layout. The owner Wendy was delightful. Nothing too much trouble and lots of interesting stories to tell. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Looking forward to a return visit soon. A great weekend. One tip for staying in this area. There are few restaurants so try to book a table when you decide if you like the look of anything.

Early this morning on the 30 th June, I booked a night away here for the 31st July through booking.com. There was a blip in the booking system which for some reason altered my booking date to today for some reason, but only noticed the discrepancy after hitting the button to book and see the date had changed and tried to stop it, but was too late and looked like it had gone through. I immediately rang the ship inn and spoke to the lady on the phone, who said I needed to speak to Anita and to ring back in half hour. She was very nice and said she was sure they would try to help. After 20 minutes I rang back and spoke to Anita and explained what had happened and could she please just alter the booking to the 31st July. She told me that they were fully booked and that the 31st July hadn’t been available for a long time. I assumed that maybe this is why the error had occurred with the booking and had somehow must have said that today was available instead and must have mistakingly accepted it. But then while she was on the phone I went back on to booking.com and told her it was still saying the 31st July was still available, which she said she was sure it wasn’t but would check the website her end and get back to me within an hour, and speak to the manager/ owner. Just over an hour later she rang me back to say , that she had looked and yes the 31st July was indeed available but she could not exchange the date over , as I should have cancelled within 3 days of the booked date when I knew I couldn’t come.AGAIN I explained , I booked this morning for the 31st July but there had been a blip in the system and for some reason reverted to today’s date and had rang literally within one minute of booking to ask them to change the date. Well it was like talking to a brick wall......she didn’t want to help and said she couldn’t help!!!! I have never known such bad customer service. I said I would be willing to pay the commission amount that booking .com charges them out of the 100 pounds, I also said how they would save the cost of the 2 breakfasts and all the laundry / cleaning costs on the room.....but she wasn’t very helpful at all. I explained that there was no way I could come as was in hospital, otherwise I would come. She did at the end say that she would relay all this to the owner/ manager and hopefully he would be able to do something. And assured me I would receive a call back from him late afternoon/ early evening as she thought there was something they may be able to do. Well it is now 10 pm......no phone call......nothing. I could have let someone else go at least if knew earlier they definitely wasn’t going to do anything........ or let friends that live in the area go there to have out breakfasts!, But then I suppose it’s all about money. Shame on this place, I didn’t even want my money back...just for them to book the date I had originally put in, before the blip on the system. Had even offered to pay the commission booking .com charges them as aNita kept saying about that. Bet they are quick to request the payment from booking.com. Good Customer Service is everything.......sadly this place doesn’t have any! I notice it is up for sale as the owners are meant to be retiring, so probably trying to get as much money in before hand !

We were so relaxed & looking forward to lunch. We sat upstairs, the sun was shining & we had great views of the sea. Perfect. Sadly, it ends there. We left extremely disappointed & will not be returning & will not be recommending this place either. We waited an hour for lunch! At no point when we arrived at the pub were we told there was an unusually long wait for food. And at no point did any member of staff come & speak to us to acknowledge that we had been kept waiting & offered no apologies either. As we were about to walk out & cancel our order the waitress was on her way with our food. I found her rude & unapologetic! She put the plates down & said in a very matter of fact attitude “well do u want a refund?” We said no as we were hungry at this stage & decided to stay. However, we wish we had have just got a refund as the food was definitely not worth the wait. Burger bun was over toasted, burger was tasteless (homemade!) & chips were greasy. My husband left the bun & chips but ate some of the burger because he was so hungry. I had the Brie & Bacon banquette which I shared with my husband. It was ok. It’s a baguette! By this stage we were just feeling fed up & so disappointed we just wanted to go. The restaurant, contrary to what the waitress said was not overly busy! The lack of customer service & care is sadly missing & we wish we had stuck to our guns & took the refund & kept on walking!

We had a lovely two night stay at this lovely Hotel, meeting up with family. Very clean room. Lovely seaviews. Tea ,coffee making facilities available, tv, sofa... almost like home from home. Wendy was a very kind and chatty host. Wendy's breakfast's are lovely. Very filling and set you up nicely for the day. Many thanks to Wendy and her staff... and we are hoping to return in November. Landlady is a lovely person who was keen to ensure we were utterly comfortable with her meticulous room preparation. We were and we very much appreciated her efforts throughout the stay and accommodating our early breakfast request was the extra mile.
